Zappa went to seek medical help for his prostate issues. Four Doctor's did not find the prostate cancer. The fifth one finally did, and by then it advanced so far it was inoperable.
Frank was openly discussing running for President before he got sick. He was skating on powerful political ice a lot towards the end of his life. He was friends with Vaclev Havel and Havel was going to appoint Frank to the Czechoslovakia Trade ministry until James Baker heard about it and threatened Havel with cutting off American Aid if he was to appoint Zappa.
Frank battled "the Washington Wives" in the mid 80's and debated Baker's wife multiple times - it seemed like anywhere the wives spoke, or their designated PR flacks spoke, Zappa would be there to debate them. He was all over the place taking them on. He was not afraid to debate anyone anytime no matter who - like John Danforth LIVE on Maria Shriver's morning show of that era and the spoken testimony and Q&A at the Senate hearing, national news at the time. "Taken as a whole, the complete list of PMRC demands reads like an instruction manual for some sinister kind of "toilet training program" to house-break all composers and performers because of the lyrics of a few. Ladies, how dare you?"
I think some PTB considered Zappa a threat to be dealt with of the magnitude of a Paul Wellstone or Karl Rove's IT guru Mike Connell?
Lennon's death by an amnesic programmed zombie has the same aroma as Sirhan Sirhan, as did John Hinckley. The Hinkley's were friends with the Bush family. (And OBL multiple wives brother Salem was a partner in a GWB early 80's oil venture)
60 minutes was producing a feature on Zappa and were filming his First Show of the 88 tour. (I was there and don't really remember any film crews, but, I'm an ex-hippy, so my memory is not good sometimes) Frank had the League of Women Voters doing VOTER REGISTRATIONS in the lobbies of all his shows on that tour that authorities would allow.
Frank on running for President; "Not only would I win, but I'd be good at the job."
Any doubt our PTB sociopaths would order the execution of such a threat?
-90% Jimmy
PS - I have been fortunate to meet Ike Willis in person twice. (Frank may have written the Joe's Garage trilogy expressly for Ike's voice?) He told me he got a call from Frank 3 to 6 months before he died and told him his cancer was in remission and he wanted to do a 200 motels Anniversary Tour, with Flo and Eddie, no less! Frank is my Elvis, but with brains, courage, reason and keen insight, to paraphrase Zappa fan Matt Groening
