Judiciary Committee OKs Sotomayor for high court

By JULIE HIRSCHFELD DAVIS
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Senate Judiciary Committee has voted to approve Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor to be the first Hispanic justice.

The committee voted 13-6 Tuesday morning to send Sotomayor's nomination to the full Senate, where she's expected to be confirmed easily next week.

Just one Republican, South Carolina's Lindsey Graham, joined Democrats in voting for President Barack Obama's first high court nominee. The panel's chairman, Vermont Democrat Patrick Leahy, called Sotomayor a restrained, fair and impartial judge who has not favored any one group of people over another. But the top Republican, Alabama's Jeff Sessions, said her speeches and some rulings revealed beliefs that conflict with the idea of blind justice and fidelity to the law.

Learning from Iran's Twitter Revolution you can explain why universal, consistent connectivity equals democracy.

If there was no Twitter and connectivity we wouldn't know what is actually going on in Iran.

My oldest is a music major at Southern Connecticut State University and has been recording his own music for a year or so. He started recording after his successful Brain Tumor operation a year ago February and now has 8 songs online with more to come. A few years ago I bought a Mac computer which has a program called "Garage Band" on it. Little known to me this little program would be his salvation while home recuperating. He plays Trumpet, Guitar & Bass on all songs. He sings most of all the vocals, and programs Apple's Garage Band program with all the other notes to make the rest of the band sounds.

The reason I have posted this is not to sell songs, because his, are not for sale (yet) but to show off one song in particular that I think will be appreciated here on DU.

The song is "All Over" It addresses the bush legacy and I think it's pretty good. The last 3 song after that one are real nice too if you have the time.

I hope you enjoy.

A Palestinian attacker wielding an axe has killed an Israeli boy and wounded another in a Jewish settlement in the West Bank, police say.
The attack took place in the Bat Ayin settlement south of Bethlehem. The attacker is reported to have escaped.
Doctors said the fatality was a 13-year-old, while a seven-year-old boy was being treated for serious wounds.
The military wing of Islamic Jihad and Imad Mughniyeh Group said they carried out the attack, Israel Radio reports.

For those who are on LinkedIn this poll is very interesting. Most people that I have Linked to me are business associates. Some are CEO's and most are conservative. So for this poll to be so much in Obama's favor , it amazes me.

Good stuff I believe:

For me, the greatest athlete in in the world EVER is Lance Armstrong. He is bigger in my mind than Ruth, Orr, Unitas, & Jordan combined x 100

My brother has ridden with him and knows him fairly well. I have read all his books.

His feats in cycling has only been overshadowed by his fight against Cancer.

In this video before the Tour Of California he takes apart a detractor who has written foul things about him of late.

Go Lance!

Dear World:

We, the United States of America, your top quality supplier of the ideals of
liberty and democracy, would like to apologize for our 2001-2008
interruption in service. The technical fault that led to this eight-year
service outage has been located, and the software responsible was replaced
November 4. Early tests of the newly installed program indicate that we are
now operating correctly, and we expect it to be fully functional on January
20. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the outage. We look forward
to resuming full service and hope to improve in years to come. We thank you
for your patience and understanding.

Sincerely,

THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

It is a remake of the Beatles White Album. He did the whole album in 7 months while recuperating from major surgery at home.

This cut is "Martha My Dear"

He sings, plays guitar, bass & trumpet. The rest was inputed one note at a time on Apples Garage Band program.

Let me know what you think.
