Case in point is an earlier post here on DU about Frank Luntz's advice to Repug Gov's. (Link) Not only is this happening at this political level - it is happening in corporations, banks, brokerage houses, media, churches, at your grocery store, etc. Everywhere we turn there are people plotting, scheming and conniving ways to get into our heads and our back pockets. So much of what we are up against as consumers is just out and out fraud and deception. I'm sure everyone can cite examples of ...

This to me is the fault of Wall Street. It forces Corps to find ways to squeeze profits out & raise prices; outsource jobs overseas; reduce the size of product & charge the same or more for it; etc. All at the same time they find ways to short their employees on wages & benefits. Once we're on such a cycle things keep spiraling down for the consumer who is at the butt end of this strategy. Somehow this strategy needs to be abated or at sometime in the future for example we'll be paying the s...

I don't want to be a wet blanket here - but I'm puzzled by what we expect to accomplish by the OWS and the worldwide protests going on against the greedy rich. What do we expect the banksters, financiers and politicians - or essentially the top 1% to do to quell the protests? Are these 'greedy rich' sitting somewhere together thinking - what will satisfy the protesters? What will make this protest that is spreading worldwide - go away? These banksters, financiers and politicians - according...

I saw Chicago cops taunting the protesters in Grant Park before the worst violence broke out. The cops were on CTA buses in their riot gear - their heads popping out the bus windows - pounding their billy clubs against the sides of the buses - catcalling out to the protesters (hippies) - just egging them on hoping to incite violence. I was there. I saw this with my own eyes. Fortunately I had the sense to go home and not stay around for that evenings melée. I hope that the OWS protesters ...

proactive and beat them at their own game. We need to stop carping all the time at what they are doing and begin to figure out ways to twart their dirty dealings. One thing I can say for the Repugs - when they put there mind to do something they do it. All we do is sit around and identify their tactics and then proceed to let them get away with these things. Now what do we do to change things and either reverse their destructive ways or stop them in their tracks? We all know if the shoe we...

for Romney should he be the nominee. The 9/11 book he is reading is pointing out how inept Washington was during the goings on that day. I don't know but I'm thinking he's associating the ineptness of the Bush Administration with the Obama Administration and the difference is completely 180. Here is my impromptu rant: I think you know how I feel about 9/11. If you look what has happened since that day - this country has been taken down the drain. Funny how the Project For The New (PNAC...

I'm sorry - but can we get some good news? Debt ceiling bill goes through without any contribution by the richest Americans. S & P downgrades U.S. standing. The stock market tanks and is still down despite an up day today. My retirement as well as most middle class and poor Americans is permanently put on hold. Baucus appointed to the Super Congressional Committee of 12 that all but seals the deal that there will be damage done to SS, Medicare and Medicaid and still no contributions coming...

the condition this country is in. From the moment they stole the 2000 election until now you can just track how this country went downhill. The whole thing was choreographed to get us where we are today.

Here's an idea that I posted in August of 2010 - probably too late to get something organized behind it. I thought that given that our situation here in the U.S. hasn't changed and for many it even has gotten worse - that this would be a good time to re-post this idea. Seeing that the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon (JLMDT) will only be a shadow of its former self this year I don't feel as bad suggesting this and having such an event share the day with the JLMDT - maybe something like ...

MBA diploma's being awarded. Just to let you know - I have an MBA myself. I'm just so disgusted with 'business' in general. Customer 'service' seems like a thing of the past. Much of marketing is 'deceptive' - just pull the wool over the consumers eyes to raid their wallet. Squeeze every last drop of energy out of your employees. Company profits need to go up every year - but that doesn't need to come from new and better products, innovation or customer loyalty. Many companies achieve...

I happened to be driving home real late last night (early this a.m.) and in order to stay awake I was scanning the radio channels to find something to keep me company. I came across a program called Coast To Coast and probably in the middle or near the end of a conversation on Cold Fusion. I'm hoping someone else here on DU caught the program and can maybe direct me to the website that they were referring to on the program. It had cold fusion and dot org in its address - but I didn't catch i...

Have them followed and monitor their every move. Report what they do and what they don't do. Hound them - day and night. Watch what they do while they are in D.C. Watch what they do when they are back in their districts or states. Watch what they do when they are neither in their districts, states or D.C. Watch them on the golf course. At restaurants and bars. Watch their houses on C Street. Watch what they do with their families. Watch what they do on vacation. Report on who ...

It's time to sit down with our kids that are just on their way to college, those in college and those just graduating. It is time to tell them that they to will age and become old like us someday and that they are now being targeted for shouldering more and more of the burden of their health costs as they age. Show them how the Repugs are going to lay the burden down on them and tell them that then need to get involved now - politically - to prevent that from happening. We need to get th...

and wages stay even or go down. And don't forget about all those people that are unemployed because their jobs were shipped overseas. When you don't have money to spend on anything but to keep yourself afloat - guess what - people don't spend money. Gas, food, rent and mortage are about all you can sustain and even that is tough. No extra money for purchasing anything - no purchasing of houses, cars, appliances, clothes, etc. No money for entertainment - no restaurants, vacations, movies....

Now there's a title for a good journalist to use writing an expose on "corporate entitlements". And there are always whores out there willing to drop their pants to steal away a big corporation. It's these whores that allow these corporations to get away with extortion. We have to do something quick to first overturn "Citizens United". Then we have to end "corporate welfare" and make sure corporations don't get away with not paying taxes and being subsidized by our taxpayer monies. T...

Is anyone suspicious that the news shows are saying we're facing $5.00 per gallon gas by summer? Did the oil companies fuel (no pun intended) the unrest in the ME? Just asking.

Just some observations: If the people can only continue to turn out in such ever increasing numbers and do it peacefully. Are we watching a textbook example of how to hold a revolution? How can an army of men turn against their own people? The army comes from the people. They are the sons, fathers, uncles, friends of the people. (I'm assuming here that the army is all male - if it includes females then they are also the daughters, mothers, aunts and friends of the people too). Peopl...

outside of the country. The other thought I had was how soon will BushCo start taking credit for causing this want for democracy in the ME? And how soon will the Repugs and the right wing talking heads and Fox turn on Obama for the handling of this situation. We all know that what ever Obama does will be criticized by them. I'm just wondering out loud - how soon they will start jumping on him?

inextricably tied to President Obama. You can go down in history as a total uncooperative asshole that further took this country down the rabbit hole or you can go down in history as a Republican that really cares about his country and was willing help turn this ship around. You will never be considered presidential material - so you won't have a chance like this again. As the President said last night "no matter who we are or where we come from, each of us is a part of something greater...

He got fired because he encouraged people to wear guns at political rally's. He got fired because he said 'shoot them in the head' when he talked about progressives. He got fired because he called Obama - Hitler. He got fired because he encouraged 2nd Amendment remedies. What do you mean stop? What???? Are you telling me that Keith didn't say or do these things? Huh?? Really that wasn't Keith? Well then why the hell did they fire him? Oh - they fired the wrong person - I get it....

and isn't complaining much - so the oil companies are upping the price again to a new level that in a year from now we'll all be happy with. They'll take it up to close to $4.00/gal then they'll deal with the public outcry for a couple of months - and then drop it to around $3.50 and we'll all be happy again. They will have successfully raised the price $0.50/gal. Their profits will be up - because it's the American Way that every year a business has to make more money than the last. You ha...

Just a thought. If the Repugs that make the deals in the back room realized that Palin was a loser in 2012 - does anybody think that they purposely sabotaged her and gave her bad advice to put out this statement today (bad timing in light of the memorial) and include language like 'blood libel' in the statement. They knew that this would put perhaps the final nail in her presidential aspiration coffin. I don't know if she'll be able to recover from both her pre-shooting rhetoric and symb...

Yes Folks it's BonerCare Day as the Republicans seek to take away your health care and put you further in the poorhouse. It's National Take Away Your Health Care sponsored by the Republicans. They want to take away that children with pre-existing conditions continue to get coverage. They want to take away that young people can stay on their parents’ plans until age 26. They want to take away that pregnant women and breast cancer survivors can no longer be thrown off the rolls. They want t...

Rants & Ramblings
I intend to use this space to post those day to day things that occur that really irritate me:

1. People that use cell phones while driving should stay in the slow lane.
2. It takes longer to check out in a grocery store now with barcode checking than it did when checkout people punched in the price on the old cash registers.
3. Running the gauntlet of people smoking outside of places where smoking is not allowed inside.
4. People not using turning signals to signify lane changes or turns. (This was brought up in a thread and reminded me that this really irritates me).
5. Drive-up windows. Cars waiting in drive-up window lines wasting gas. Are we so lazy we can't get out of the car to purchase something. Drive-up windows should be outlawed because of the potential of wasting gas.
6. Lack of customer service - everywhere. If you don't do your own research and know what you want to purchase - it is hard to find a salesperson in the retail enviroment that can help you make a purchase decision. You know what I mean. Ask a sales person a question - they give you a blank stare - and then they begin reading the shelf labels you already read before you asked them the question.
