a remarkable intellect.
If ol' Rover were not such a narcissistic sociopath, he might recognize the merit of personal integrity, and a moral compass.
I think you're missing the point. Understandably, you are proud of your daughter, and want her to have positive experiences in her chosen career.
However, the fact remains that our system of public education is under attack. Literally THOUSANDS of veteran teachers have lost their jobs. Ultimately, your daughter is also at risk of losing her job at an administrator's whim, since our unions are being systematically disempowered. It will behoove your daughter to be aware of these facts, and to be prepared for ANY exigency.
I shall avail myself of those resources!
On Rove: I recommend Bush's Brain (Moore, Slater, and Moore). My fave factoid from this book is Rove's high school strategy of taking carts laden with boxes full of blank index cards to his debates--specifically to intimidate his opponents. Even as a child, Rove had no moral compass.
I find it difficult to swallow your unsubstantiated and poorly languaged argument that "public schools in the Orlando area were found to force parents of students to transfer students to charters during fcat." Please cite your source(s).
However, her experience is the exception, rather than the rule.
Are you trying to be sarcastic? Our children deserve our advocacy. If you are not aware of the ongoing and deliberate disintegration of public education, your time would be better spent finding out what our 'democratic' president has been enabling since he got elected.
Are you familiar with Bernays? In light of your comment, I think you might find his work relevant to this discussion.
In Stone Age Economics, Sahlins wrote: The market-industrial system institutes scarcity, in a manner completely unparalleled and to a degree nowhere else approximated. Where production and distribution are arranged through the behavior of prices, and all livelihoods depend on getting and spending, insufficiency of material means becomes the explicit, calculable starting point of all economic activity. … Consumption is a double tragedy: what begins in inadequacy will end in deprivation. The Corporate Megalomaniacs are counting on most of us to strive assiduously to avoid the cognitive dissonance commensurate with realizing the BIG LIE of their wealth carrot meme.
AND, pundits from other news agencies (RT included) would do well to avoid labeling FOX 'sloppy,' since FOX intentionally misrepresents. They are quite skilled at creating propaganda, hence their viewers have a world view that does not correspond with reality.
I cannot WAIT for all the pro-nuke folks to come along and say, "you're blowing this way out of proportion, and nuclear power is STILL the best way to go"! I would like for every one of them to move to Fukushima and PROVE that everything there is copacetic!
We are witnessing the progressive befouling of our entire planet, just for the almighty 'dollar'! When Gaia finally rolls over to scrape us off her backside, we will just have to go along for the ride.
You STILL have a lot of research to do. The #Occupy protesters I've met are not 'anti-capitalism.' Please, talk to the people who are participating in #Occupy, and appreciate the broad range of their concerns, not to mention their commitment to non-violence and Satyagraha.
I believe, just as OUR President does, that income inequality needs to be better addressed, but I do not believe as most on here do, that socialism instead of capitalism is the answer. See, that's the downside of blogging, for those who seek to revise what they've previously posted...
for thinking me young. I am 55, started my activism as a teen.
By initial salvo, I meant that--at long last--We the People, GLOBALLY, are working for an end to radical income inequity.
What level of disconnect is required for someone to complain about TRAFFIC when our entire species is experiencing a significant cultural crisis, and #Occupy is the initial salvo in our efforts to rescue ourselves?!
