Are from Brown Shoes don't Make It, from the Mothers second album, Absolutely Free.
Another nice song from that album is Plastic People, due in part to this line: "Take the day and walk around. Watch the Nazi's run your town....." I think the line "your children will murder you in your sleep" is from a show at the Whiskey A-go-go on the Sunset Strip in the time just preceding their contract for Freak Out happened. I'm a musically illiterate Zappaphile. Thanks to the internet, I now have potential access to a boot of the first Mothers show I ever went to, the Oct 16, 1971 Stony Brook late show! Misc Zappa stuff that resonates with me - He sued Warner Brothers in the mid 70's and won! (Battling the greedy corporations of his time on their turf!) His arrest and jailing in the early 60's for an entrapment style arrest for making pornography must have been a profound effect on his understanding of police and government. Taught him some lessons and made him ineligible for the draft, as a convicted felon. He took on anyone, any time, any place for any reason at all during the mid 80's ROCK RECORD RATINGS DEBATE. That led to his Senate Testimony, where Al Gore confessed he was a fan of Frank's work. When Frank knew he was dying, the Gore's sent him a personal note. Frank made it a point to mention that. Also, Tipper played drums on some single that Dweezil and a few siblings made. Langdon Winner or some other rock journo of that era said Frank had "an overdeveloped justice gland". The Chrome plated Megaphone of Destiny would be the most appropriate song for the OWS movement. There are instructions on the album (We're Only in It For The Money) to give you the background to enjoy the song to it's fullest. -jim

If you employ a little critical thinking to strip away Max's hyperbole, I think the points he makes are valid and well informed.
Can you recommend some economic and wall Street pundits as informed as Max, but without the hyperbole, for us? Beck deals in in manufactured paranoia. I think Max without the hyperbole remains as making many excellent points about how corrupt our entire financial system is. Personally, I think all of the institutions we rely on for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are infested with greedy and corrupt sociopaths. Dylan Ratigan famously "went Max" a few weeks ago, and had some constructive things about financial corruption to say. Perhaps if more of our MSM "went Max" it would trigger the overhaul all our institutions require to restore the American dream. With the increasing public awareness from OWS, it certainly is becoming more obvious our leaders are wearing no clothes! -90% Jimmy

"They" usurped a few of our Constitutional Rights in the name of "The War on Terror". Our phones are tapped without warrent, we are in a state of mass criminalization, and the President has used the authority to kill an American Citizen on his order. (This should be fact checked. I may be factually incorrect on this info. But I'm pretty sure GWB has done it. That sadist loves killing people and would probably do it every chance he got while enjoying the powers of a Monarch)
So why the fuck do we have to BE AFRAID of terrorist reunion anniversary attacks this weekend. We gave up a lot of rights Americans have enjoyed for the past 234 fucking years so we would be safe and fully protected by our government. How many more fundamental rights do we have to loose before this blissful state of total safety is achieved? OUR INSTITUTIONS ARE INFESTED WITH GREEDY AND CORRUPT SOCIOPATHS The powers that be seem to be merely stupid and greedy and below average intelligence. A truly informed populus, if there can even be such a thing in this age, is more on the ball than an official stating "Wall Street is Main Street". Only fools and the insulated wealthy can even think such a thing in these times. In a sane world, there would be a standing order to shoot to kill any one that says that in public. Well, that is a wee bit totalitarian. Hyperbole to try to make my point. I think merely excluding these elitists from POLITE SOCIETY would be a fair and just first step. -90% Jimmy

Something I find amazing is watching video's of the Iraq War new product roll out of 2002-2003. Looking at GWB in particular, along with the other traitors (Cheney, Rice, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld, Feith, et al) it is very easy to tell they barely believe their own bull shit. When Bush talks about evil ole' Saddam's WMD's and smoking gun in the form of a mushroom cloud, it's like he's telling kids horror stories on an overnight camp out.
It was bullshit all along and they knew it! -90% Jimmy

Cheney is a traitor to America that committed numerous acts of treason. American elites have their own separate but not equal justice system that allows mass murderers to walk free amongst us.
I commend Matt Lauer for asking tough questions. Almost unprecedented in what currently passes for our main stream media. I think he’s done that before with other Bush War criminals, too. -90% Jimmy

He is probably the most honorable person to have served in the Bush White House. I like him.
However, as an average DU reader, I knew Powell's speech to the UN was largely bullshit within a day of his presentation. People at this high level of government should have the critical thinking and analytical abilities at least of an average DU reader. I still like Lawrence, though. He's up there with Richard Clarke (the solitary government official that apologized to the American Public about the intelligence failure that was 9/11) as an honorable public servant, in my opinion. Thank you very much for the link. Amy Goodman is a beacon of responsible informed journalism. -90% Jimmy

It could be used in the trials of the Bush White House for WAR CRIMES and CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY.
One comment I remember from Dastardly Dick a few years back, in talking about our serviceman; "So what? They volunteered." The multiple deployments into a war zone these sociopaths forced upon our best and brightest is, in itself, a WAR CRIME. As Richard Clarke has said, these people should not be allowed in polite society. That reminds me of another Cheney quote, in regards to failures that led to 9/11 and Richard Clarke's role; "Boy he sure got that one wrong, didn't he? Nice thing to say after this criminal Bush WH BLEW OFF Clarke's REPEATED concerns all the way past Sept 11! Not prosecuting this bunch is yet another area where our PTB and Institutions have fucked over the future of the US and the World. Said it here before, a lot, some day in the future we'll be stupid enough to elect a President that ISN'T as NICE and WISE as the GWB cretins, and they'll start WW3! If I was a younger person, I'd go out and kill my entire generation for wrecking any hope for today's young people to enjoy the possibility of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. This statement by Mitt in Iowa a few days ago should have sparked a violent overthrow of the American Government by WE THE PEOPLE by now. That it has not is of concern. (It has not even become a core issue here at DU, a community that strives to be WELL INFORMED and to dig a few layers deeper than the CORPORATE PRAVDA that passes for main stream news these days.)
The well educated, well informed, hard working, American Political History and Constitutional EXPERT THOM HARTMANN has had a lot to say about "corporate personhood" over these recent years. Here's what he had to say after the passage of the Supreme Court CITIZENS UNITED ruling, which history may show eventually to be one of the most UN-AMERICAN RULINGS by the SC of the last 100 years! http://www.democraticunderground.com/discu... It is not the best vid, it is one of many, and is here to allow a start for you all to look into all that Thom has said about the subject. As I can explain it (and it's obvious I ain't no Thom Hartmann), the SC ruling after the Civil war intended to put into law that black people are 100% citizens back around 1867, was used as a legal loophole for a SC decision in the 1890's in Union Pacific Railroad vs. Santa Clara County to bestow the rights of an American Citizen HUMAN BEING on a Corporation. The use of this concept, that appears to have never been challenged that much in the subsequent centuries, is based on the work of some OBSCURE COURT CLERK, that wrote in the borders of some SC transcriptions/records something that made it appear that the SC had legally determined that CORPORATIONS ARE PEOPLE. They have never made such a decision, perhaps until the recent Citizen's United? So the Citizens United decision of January 2010 is now being used as a virtual NUCLEAR BOMB in the CORPORATE EFFORTS to capture our entire apparatus of government, to use the entire fucking government of the US to further their own pursuit of money at the expense of the BASIC CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS of the entire population of America! Mitt blurting this out confirms this is how the rich and powerful currently view their class vs. average citizens. Corporations, which they run and own, have super-rights, that go well beyond the rights of us average citizens. That is as un-American as it could possibly get and is so blasphemous that all our Founding Fathers are probably spinning in their graves at about 30,000 RPM. FASCISM IS HERE in America, RIGHT NOW, and the mechanisms for a TOTALITARIAN POLICE STATE are either in place, or being put in place right now. If WE THE PEOPLE DON'T MANGE TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS PRETTY FUCKING SOON, we'll all be nothing more than CORPORATE SERFS working on the COMPANY PLANTATION, only with indoor plumbing and IPADS this time. Legally undoing "corporate personhood" I think would go a long way towards redirecting America back to the wonderful concepts our Founding Fathers gave to us so that we can do what all people want, the opportunity to enjoy LIFE, LIBERTY AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS. I also think it is one of few ROOT CAUSES of our current dilemma, as it has allowed our entire government to have been purchased outright by the rich and powerful. Things are pretty fucked up when it appears that Corporations, an abstract entity that is a concept, not flesh and blood, seem to be enjoying super-rights well beyond those remaining rights that us flesh and bone people still have. (We've lost a few more basic Constitutional Rights only in the last decade) -90% jimmy

This video has been on DU many times over and over. I think it is the highest quality and most concise summary of the current state of public affairs in America RIGHT THIS VERY MINUTE! (This particular version has a transcript, btw.)
"And now they're comin' for your SOCIAL SECURITY MONEY. They want your fuckin' retirement money. They want it BACK. So they can give it to their criminal friends on Wall Street. And you know something? They'll get it. They'll get it ALL from you sooner or later -- 'cuz they OWN this fuckin' place. It's a big CLUB. And YOU AIN'T IN IT." This entire DEBT CEILING KABUKI is the moment in history when they COME FOR OUR SOCIAL SECURITY MONEY! The POWERS THAT BE do indeed seem to be hell bent on owning all of us and turning us into middle ages feudal corporate serfs. Sucks to be THE BOTTOM 98% IN AMERICA AND MOST OF THE REST OF THE WORLD, don't it? -90% Jimmy

Zappa went to seek medical help for his prostate issues. Four Doctor's did not find the prostate cancer. The fifth one finally did, and by then it advanced so far it was inoperable.
Frank was openly discussing running for President before he got sick. He was skating on powerful political ice a lot towards the end of his life. He was friends with Vaclev Havel and Havel was going to appoint Frank to the Czechoslovakia Trade ministry until James Baker heard about it and threatened Havel with cutting off American Aid if he was to appoint Zappa. Frank battled "the Washington Wives" in the mid 80's and debated Baker's wife multiple times - it seemed like anywhere the wives spoke, or their designated PR flacks spoke, Zappa would be there to debate them. He was all over the place taking them on. He was not afraid to debate anyone anytime no matter who - like John Danforth LIVE on Maria Shriver's morning show of that era and the spoken testimony and Q&A at the Senate hearing, national news at the time. "Taken as a whole, the complete list of PMRC demands reads like an instruction manual for some sinister kind of "toilet training program" to house-break all composers and performers because of the lyrics of a few. Ladies, how dare you?" I think some PTB considered Zappa a threat to be dealt with of the magnitude of a Paul Wellstone or Karl Rove's IT guru Mike Connell? Lennon's death by an amnesic programmed zombie has the same aroma as Sirhan Sirhan, as did John Hinckley. The Hinkley's were friends with the Bush family. (And OBL multiple wives brother Salem was a partner in a GWB early 80's oil venture) 60 minutes was producing a feature on Zappa and were filming his First Show of the 88 tour. (I was there and don't really remember any film crews, but, I'm an ex-hippy, so my memory is not good sometimes) Frank had the League of Women Voters doing VOTER REGISTRATIONS in the lobbies of all his shows on that tour that authorities would allow. Frank on running for President; "Not only would I win, but I'd be good at the job." Any doubt our PTB sociopaths would order the execution of such a threat? -90% Jimmy PS - I have been fortunate to meet Ike Willis in person twice. (Frank may have written the Joe's Garage trilogy expressly for Ike's voice?) He told me he got a call from Frank 3 to 6 months before he died and told him his cancer was in remission and he wanted to do a 200 motels Anniversary Tour, with Flo and Eddie, no less! Frank is my Elvis, but with brains, courage, reason and keen insight, to paraphrase Zappa fan Matt Groening

I got the perfect name for this
The College Tuition Industrial Complex! I would contend that part of the reason we are in such a mess these days is that modern education is oriented around GETTING A GOOD JOB instead of being taught how to think and reason. We are churning out worker bees that are retarded in many areas of life beyond their core discipline. And these emotional illiterates are in there running the show now. I'm getting a much better idea about why humanities are so important. -90% Jimmy

The young man in the basement said that military recruitment is doing well these days.
Is that really true? I remember at the onset of America's "wars of mistakes" that it was hard to get troops of any sort and so they deployed massive amounts of weekend warriors (National guard) and mercenaries and contractors to do the job. Not to mention forcing many to endure multiple deployments. Those conscripted in Viet Nam only had to serve one tour then they could go home. Don't know for how long, but it was relatively less brutal than what we forced servicemen to do in the last decade. Does this explosion in military sign ups mean we no longer have to pay 300-500% premiums to get a contractor to do a lesser job than the military personnel? It has got to suck really really bad to be graduating from college in these times. I recall in my youth the worst shame you could have is to end up living as an adult with your parents. It was real important to me at the time to escape that fate and by sheer dumb luck I entered the job market at the end of the 70's recession. -90% jimmy

I'm a 9-11 "skeptic". I have noticed that 911 CT's are not very welcome at DU.
I do recall Michael's 911 CT question was simply; "If the government has nothing to hide, how come they're hiding so much information about 911? I would like the history of 9-11 to be repeatedly reexamined and questioned. Especially because 911 was used as a justification for America invading Iraq. I will never accept in my lifetime the doctrine of invasion by outright GW Bush White House lies. America and the World must obliterate from all possibility that there ever be another "war by deliberate mistake" like the crimes against humanity perpetrated by these Nuremberg caliber War Criminals. Let's focus on getting back to how a sane Democratic Republic would deal with White House Level War Criminals. To do otherwise is to repudiate what this country has striven to stand for since it's inception. To do otherwise is to condemn the future of this planet to a dark ages totalitarian existence. I want the possibility of life liberty and the pursuit of happiness to be enjoyed by future generations who have a big job ahead of them turning the world around and making the future better for all people on this planet. -90% Jimmy

I learned this concept from Frank Zappa's many interviews. "We are a nation of laws - poorly written and randomly enforced." To set the tone here - he said that we are extremely over lawed in the USA. So, at any given time, most of us are engaged in breaking some law some where. I can make my personal list of areas where I could get nailed if discovered and enforced. I think most of us can.
So, if you are an INDEPENDENT CRITICAL THINKER, then "the authorities", or "the powers that be" can arrest your ass and selectively legally persecute the hell out of you! For more context, here's some excellent Chris Hedges material closely related to this: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discu... Lastly, if we didn't have such a highly cancer ridden CONSTITUTION, we wouldn't have to worry about threatening "the state" like we're all fucking living in Stalinist Russia or something. Our Founding Fathers had flaws, but they sure eas hell didn't want their dream of liberty and justice for all go totalitarian police state! Hell, my own Congressman told me to my face that we are two America's! (While I was discussing Matt Taibi's "Why isn't Wall Street in Jail" articles or something else similar?) -90% Jimmy

Would have put this in video section except it's not youtube. Here is Wilkerson's incredible quote: "My former boss Colin Powell recently said that Donald Rumsfeld is delusional and deceptive and he could prove both points. My former boss is right." I heard this earlier in the week live on Ed/MSNBC and I fell out of my chair. This recent candor from Powell is remarkable. Wilkerson does a great job putting missing historical pieces out there about how morally bankrupt and evil the Bush White House really was. Wilkerson yesterday was all over MSNBC and said that he was part of the team that prepared the infamous UN speech for his boss - Winnebago's of Mass Destruction. He said, roughly, that if he knew what the other members of the team were cooking or leaving out, he would have told his boss to go make his own UN speech! Enjoy this, and appreciate what Wilkerson is about - an honorable republican that can still clearly delineate between right and wrong. This breed of Republican is currently extinct. Our only hope is if Wilkerson has reproduced! -90% jimmy
