Sheehan calls for activism

Cindy Sheehan had tough questions - both for her supporters and protesters - during a speech Sunday at the Omaha Peace and Justice Expo.

To her audience of a few hundred peace activists, she asked: "How many of you sleep in a different bed every night? How many have staged a sit-in in sub-zero weather? How many have sat in puddles outside the White House?"

To a 21-year-old member of UNO College Republicans who challenged her views, she asked: "Why are you here and not over there (fighting in Iraq)?"

Sheehan, the prominent peace activist whose son, Casey, was killed in the Iraq war in 2004, focused her speech on anti-war activism, saying more action is needed. The event was held at the University of Nebraska at Omaha's Milo Bail Student Center.

Global warming: Seals on Thin Ice
Global warming is resulting in dramatically reduced ice coverage in the Gulf of St Lawrence and off Newfoundland.

Scientists have recorded poorer-than-average ice conditions off the East coast of Canada for the past 9 out of 11 years. The result—even more deaths for harp seal pups.

In the face of this new threat, the commercial seal hunt must end.
