Hell with Disney, I have proof Obama is a Stepford candidate. The question is-who lobotomized him, Maybe they neutered him instead, I don't know which. He will have to run on his record this next time and not some pretty speeches.

went to the RENFEST this year and got something I always wanted and needed......A Rat's Ass.

Yes ma'am. I carry it in my pocket now every day. When I worked, I never gave a rat's ass what the higher ups said because I didn't have one. Now I take more of an interest because I have some 'skin in the game' as it were.

Just knowing I can stroke that furry little butt when I am stressed out helps me calm down. That guy can make a mint with proper marketing. I love my rat's ass.

I know we can't give endorsement so I hope you can forgive my enthusiasm. Let's just say it personally works for me.

and lurkers. Survivors guilt, Roland, survivors guilt. I watched last week's Front Line about a hair stylist on Manhattans lower east side-very tony. I could see how some of these folk got into trouble, but in all honesty I felt that some things were out of their hands. These folks were pillars in their communities, solid upper middle class. They face months and years of unemployment. Getting a job is like winning the lottery. There is no room for error in regards to your financial decisions and even if you do make all the right moves, you can lose it all any way. I was saddened by the way some folks lacked any compassion for these folks.

Roland, as strange as it seems, we had layoffs early enough in our lives when we could train and learn survival skills. As bad as I thought it was when I was lay ed off in the 80's, I was young enough to retrain and learn the skills that help me survive. Those awful times turned out to be a blessing. I was young enough to recover. If the same thing were to happen today, I would have a harder time to recover. This knowledge and experience is what gives me sympathy, even for those that most can't muster sympathy for. I have never forgotten how rough it was before I got that part time job and Mom seeded me the money for nursing school.

I have some useful skill sets that now will always enable me to get by in this world. I'll be anything from a nanny to a companion or sitter if a Nursing job isn't available to me and I will gladly do them-I am not too proud. And if I can, before I retire-I will be starting my own business so I should never have to be so worried. I have learned to have faith in my ability to provide for myself, and that gets harder to do as we get older.

Don't laugh too hard but I liken our situation today to that movie that came out several years ago, Chicken Run. I know it was a cartoon and geared toward kids-but we are like those chickens. Years in the chicken coop have made us soft and we have forgotten how to fly. Well now we face the prospect of being made into meat pies and we will if we don't learn to fly and jump the fence soon, even fewer of us will survive. And contrary to Ann Rand-we stand a better chance if we work together-it has truly been the only way to survive. That philosophy only serves to keep us divided and makes it easier for the foxes to pick us off one at a time.

Think on it.

Happy hunting and watch out for the bears.

and lurkers. Well, the results are in and the general public does not like the old Dino lyte flavour that the DEM leadership has been serving up. If Obama and all the other Dems wants a second term, they had better wake up and act like this is the only shot they are getting. Some folks in DU land need to take off their rose coloured glass now because the general public has. Most folks voted their pocket book and as Tansy has so clearly points out in posts recently, the Dems have failed in making our lives a tad easier. They have neither given us justice nor protection from these Wall Street or Financial thugs. They have essential held us down while these corporations have raped us. This thread has the most realistic members of the DU, after all-we know what a balanced accounting book looks like and Obama has lost even the most forgiving of us.

Obama and Dems may say they for the public, but their real actions AND THE PEOPLE THEY SURROUND THEMSELVES WITH, indicate otherwise. Personally, I think that when Obama kept Bernanke in, he sealed his fate. Only getting rid of Summers, Geithner, and ignoring Rubin (it would be too obvious and cause too much mess if O gets rid of all of them at once) can save him. That would be a more deft chess move. And speaking of deft moves-I'd neuter Lieberman. A man that can't be loyal has no integrity. How long would you as a boss tolerate someone that stabbed you in the back and held up your projects? Time to get the others in line and show them who wears the pants in the party and Leiberman is just the one to be made an example. Folks will follow a leader and Obama needs to put his big boy under ware on and start popping a few folks in the nose. Who on Main Street is going to criticize him or Congress for enacting some Consumer Protection measures. Hell, that would make my job easier come re election time.

The Big O needs to get with the program, times a wastin'.

Happy hunting and watch out for the bears.

and lurkers. Tansy, that theme was my underlying thought in my rant yesterday. I have had those musings also as of late. Too much emphasis on consumer, not enough emphasis on the human beings.

WS deals with consumers and that is the disconnect. That is another reason why the injection of a business model into a human endeavor will never work in area such as basic education and health care and will be immoral in the case of food and water. I don't care how great capitalism is...you are comparing apples to oranges we you try to make some things into business.

In my lifetime, I have seen hospitals morph from places of caring and healing to businesses. They are in the process of doing the same thing to the education of our children. As a School Nurse-I can see this very clearly, which is why I fight vouchers tooth and nail. I refuse to see education turn into the mess that passes for health care today. Humans are not business ventures.

Happy hunting and watch out for the bears.

and lurkers. Glad to be the first rec. this am again Ozy! Thanks for your hard work every day. I never take the SWT and all our posters for granted-even if I don't say it. I appreciate this every day.

And speaking of appreciating or being taken for granted....what about the American consumer. That is the problem-we are not just consumers-we are people.

Now as a consumer-I am doing ok. Hubby and I are doing well. Our jobs are fairly secure, we are paying down our debt, and our financial condition continues to improve with each passing day. Yet we feel miserable. We ask ourselves why.

I think the answer is because first and foremost we are human beings, not consumers. How can we take joy when so many are suffering. I don't have to look too far to find anyone close to me that is having a hard time. Last night hubby and I were talking about the up coming holidays. We just need some new underware and will purchase some things for the young family members but that is it. We have decided to give away the remainder of our holiday account away as we did last year. This year we are considering a donation to our church's food pantry and perhaps something else-we are are thinking of funding some kids from my school to go to Washington DC later this year. It would be the trip of a lifetime for some of these kids.

I can't think of anything better to lift consumer confidence than for folks to do for others. That is the only spending I want to do these days.

Happy hunting and watch out for the bears.

FDIC FLAME OUT or WHAT DO YOU WANT ON YOUR TOMBSTONE:

As you know, the FDIC is bank closures are up to 96. Our question is ......When Will We Hit Number 100. I'll give you a clue-it will probably be on a Friday and a big pizza delivery will be involved. So get your calendars out boys and girls. Will we be eating turkey, will we get an extra trick this Halloween, or will we get that extra lump of coal we will need to see us through this winter. Post your guess.

The only difference now is you can only have two guesses and no changes.

What will the winner get....A virtual pizza of your choice: the Bernanke Bologna Bargain, the Geithner Gorgonzola Goliath, the Summer's Sausage Special, the Obama Oahu Pipe Line Pork and Pineapple Special, the 911 Health Care Special (empty box only, no substitutions), the Warren Wrap, or enjoy our wonderful Buffet Buffet.

So place those bets and watch your spreads. I will post them as soon as I can and within the next day. If you have a special pizza that you want, be sure to post that too. I am cranking up the fire and will be happy to help you roast your own pizza.......

I was up last night reading the comments about the god spike. I have been watching it go upand down. I am tempted to take a profit and wait for another drop and pickup some more later. I doubt that I will get it for what I once did, but I would have sold higher than I paid for-so that is good.

There are only 2 taboos in politics-if you are caught with a dead hooker or a young boy in your bed room.

I don't know about banking and finance but at the moment there seems to be none. I bought a boxed set of Gary Cooper movies and I got for the Sargent York movie I confess but it also had The Fountainhead. So I finally got through it. Even Gary Cooper and Trish O'Neil couldn't breathe life into that cardboard turkey. The author couldn't decide if she wanted to do a political diatribe or a melodramatic novel, so she combined the two and failed at both. I was never so happy to see an ending in all my life.

What does the Church believe???? I can tell you what I was taught, but that seems to have fallen out of favour what with this new doctrine of prosperity. We are studying Job now and after many many years as a Christian, I am finally able to understand and appreciate THAT book. The new testament is straight foreword- about loving your neighbour as you love yourself and doing for others especially the widowed, the orphaned and the poor (in other words-the powerless). I don't remember Jesus saying that you are in power because you were chosen so anything you do is ok and that is what God wants you to do. I don't remember God writing any blank checks.

I have plenty of popcorn but I am running low on butter. I love it with Greek seasoning salt on it....yummmmmmm. Want some Tansy?????

and lurkers. I have been absent this week from posting but it has been a strange week. It started Monday, an hour into school. I was starting to take information from a child for an emergency CPS report. That was unusual enough, but then I got an emergency call to go to an upstairs class room, a student had passed out.

When I got into class there was a teacher bending over him. She identified herself as a CPR instructor-I am too. Great I thought-this should be a piece of cake. Then she said-he has a faint pulse and barely breathing. Now this is a new school and I haven't gotten all my supplies in. I know there are no CPR masks and I am thinking OH SHIT. Then I remember I have one on my key ring. I always tell folks I am good at pulling things out of my butt(thinking extemporaneously), but this gave it new meaning. So I whip out the mask put, it on and begin rescue breathing. He breathes for a while and then starts shutting down. I keep repeating this and check for obstructions between breaths. I am asking about 911 and getting info. I have no history about this kid. I start rescue breathing again. This time the flimsy mask starts moving and the plastic film covers MY nostrils so I am having trouble breathing. I stop ever so often to ask the progress of the first response team, catch MY breathe and reposition my mask. At one point, he jerks and it feels like a seizure. I ask again about 911 and I am looking at this kids eyes to see if he is seizing. My partner said she was having problems opening his mouth. I tell her there is enough space but I will try the nose if his jaw locks any more. I am giving several more breaths with my hand over his chest to feel any movement. He suddenly gives one more shudder and I am thinking, this is it he is going into cardiac arrest. I pop up, pull my mask up just as the door opened up and the first responders pour in.

He is in respiratory arrest I managed to get out. Now normally the ask 21 questions but this time the guy goes over there and immediately intubates the student. They attached the EKG and A pulse Ox to the kid. As he gets more Oxygen, his pulse Ox reading improves and his EKG gets better. They get the information and all his sign look good. His eyes are still open but they don't look as set as they did.

Later as I was talking with the Principal, I wondered why the intubated him so quickly. You were the colour of your scubs (they were dark purple). If you were working on him and you were that colour, they figured he must be in worse shape. So that was the running joke this week-What colour was the Nurse wearing.

After that, I still had to go back and take that emergency CPS report. CPS did not take the child during school so a bunch of us had to stay til they arrived-like 6:45 at night.

I have felt so whupped all this week, but the principal has been so nice. She ordered me to leave the campus on our early dismissal days for "off campus" duties until otherwise notified I think I am fitting in very nicely. I never thought of CPR as being traumatic, but I have been having Nursemares (our version of nightmares) all this week. We have a 3 day weekend this week so I will be helping my friend spruce up the church grounds. That should be good for what ails me.

Happy hunting and watch out for the bears. And as the Sarge on Hill Street Blues always use to say 'Be careful out there'.

and lurkers. I love todays cartoon. Our kids at this mainly all black middle school have to bring in forms. I am so mad I can't spit straight. These kids need role models, esp. black male role models. Anyone with any knowledge about kids and their growth and development is aware of that. That's why you don't see the M$M interviewing many teachers giving those crary assed interviews. Most know better than spout such ignorance. Obama has, in the local parlance, street cred......the kids LISTEN to him (especially the kids at our school). We can say the same things all day long and it goes in one ear and out the other. But let Barack say it....and it's like they are hearing it for the first time.

So Mr. President-give your address. There are some children that need to hear your address, especially now in this time of division and mean spirited selfishness. Give these kids hope. These kids still have to make it over the divide-give them some good bearings. They can't hear it enough.

Happy hunting and watch out for the bears.

we don't know which way is up. The good news-they still have been feeding us.

The economy and the crappy way some principals treat their nurses have created a double whammy for HISD-they are over 12 Nurses short and school starts Monday. Why work for low pay in school when you get more working at a hospital. Word has gotten out among school Nurses and most of the qualified school Nurses are staying away.

They have advertised for an hourly Nurse for $11.78 for going on 2 years and haven't gotten a response . Health and Medical Services have tried to tell HR they will never get a Nurse for that but that is the price they have set.

So many Nurses transferred schools this year. My old school hasn't found a replacement for me yet and 2 really nasty principals that lost nurses haven't gotten any takers. It is like when the tide goes out and you see who has been swimming naked-except now, you (Nurses) can tell where you don't want to work. And it really is a shame because Nurses are real givers and it doesn't take much to keep them happy. Maybe now they will consider us a difficult position to fill and give us a stipend. We don't get those performance bonuses.

By for now. Hope to drop in tomorrow.
