As an aside I oppose "confiscatory" taxes but taxing income over $250,000.00 at 39.6% isn't confiscatory

Fri May 07th 2010, 11:13 AM There is no denying the economy is adding new jobs after losing jobs for quite a long time. The challenge is to create enough jobs for everybody that wants one. It would be as if the Red Cross showed up at a disaster where there were five hundred thirsty people with only enough water for two hundred. The two hundred would be happy, the others not so much.
The posters who are in real pain deserve our empathy; not ridicule. As a postscript I don't blame President Obama. He doesn't have a magic wand to create jobs. It is what it is.

Thu May 06th 2010, 01:00 PM SUFFERN, N.Y. -- Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor was arrested early Thursday after being accused of raping a 16-year-old girl at a Montebello, N.Y., hotel, police said.
Taylor, who has a history of drug abuse and runs-in with the law, will be arraigned later Thursday on rape charges. Ramapo police said Taylor has yet to be formally charged. Taylor's Struggles Off The Field 1986: Admits in public statement that he has received help for substance abuse ... enters six-week drug-rehab program in Houston, stays one week. 1988: Given 30-day four-game suspension for second violation of NFL's drug-abuse policy for cocaine use. 1989: Fails breath test when police find him asleep behind the wheel of his Jeep beside the Garden State Parkway in N.J. ... acquitted in Saddlebrook, N.J., of drunken driving charges ... tries to choke a reporter after a Giants practice. 1996: One of 15 arrested in Myrtle Beach, S.C., for allegedly trying to buy $100 worth of crack from undercover police while in town for a celebrity golf tourney. Charges dropped when LT agrees to 60 hours of public service. 1997: Pleaded guilty to filing false 1990 income-tax return and failing to report $48,000 income from the now-defunct LT Sports Club in East Rutherford, N.J. 1998: Arrested in his New Jersey home in a roundup of deadbeat parents. Released after about 10 hours in jail when a friend pays $6,000 in child support and for an outstanding traffic violation ... arrested again, this time in Florida, for allegedly buying $50 in crack from an undercover cop and for possessing drug paraphernalia. 2009: Arrested in Miami for leaving the scene of an accident. 2010: Arrested by Ramapo, N.Y., police, and accused of raping a minor at a hotel in Montebello. -- Source: New York Daily News Taylor will "probably" be charged with third-degree rape, which is statutory and carries a term of up to four years, Christopher St. Lawrence, police commissioner for Ramapo said. Taylor also may be charged with solicitation, which is a misdemeanor. St. Lawrence said that the girl was taken from Taylor's hotel room by a pimp and driven back to New York City. During the car ride she texted her uncle, who called NYC police. NYC police and the uncle met the girl and the pimp when they arrived back in New York City. NYC police then alerted Ramapo authorities to what happened. Police then went to Taylor's hotel room and arrested him. "We're not happy with what took place, but our detectives have made the arrest and processed the scene," St. Lawrence said. When NYC police met with the girl she had a black eye, but St. Lawrence said that Taylor did not beat the girl. St. Lawrence also said sex with a 16-year-old can not be consensual in New York State. An attorney for Taylor, Kenneth Gribetz, said he expected Taylor to be arraigned later Thursday. "We're confident his innocence will be proven," he said. The alleged victim was 15 when she ran away from home in the Bronx last march but is 16 now, St. Lawrence said. Taylor cannot be released on own recognizance but can post bail (if the judge allows). The Ramapo police department is also looking into charging the pimp for promoting prostitution. NYC police are looking into the possibility that she was being held captive by her pimp. Taylor, 51, was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1999 and competed in ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" last year. He had a highly publicized struggle with drug addiction and has had multiple legal issues in retirement. A quick, fierce and athletic linebacker who redefined his position, Taylor anchored the Giants' defense and led New York to Super Bowls titles in 1987 and 1991. He was selected to the NFL's 75th Anniversary All-Time Team. A 10-time Pro Bowler, he was the NFL Most Valuable Player in 1986 and the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1981, 1982 and 1986. He recorded 132.5 sacks, which doesn't included the 9.5 sacks in 1981 when the statistic wasn't official. In 2001, Taylor was convicted of possessing drug paraphernalia in New Jersey. The conviction stemmed from the September 1998 discovery in a hotel room of a butane torch and other materials commonly used to smoke crack. In 1996 and 1997, he was arrested in South Carolina and Florida on drug charges. In those cases, he either admitted his guilt or agreed to enter a pretrial intervention program. In 2000, he drew five years of federal probation for filing false tax returns and for tax evasion. Last November he was charged in Florida with leaving the scene of an accident. http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/new...

Mon Apr 12th 2010, 06:43 PM I just got back from my best friend, Nate's home. He's more than a friend to me. He's like a father to me. He has two Bronze Stars; one from from Korea and one from Viet Nam. I was telling him there was a Teabagger Rally at the Orlando City Hall. He asked me what the Teabaggers want. I said a "white president". We both had a good laugh.

Tue Apr 06th 2010, 12:47 PM Massey Energy & Don Blankenship: Million-dollar Tea Party sponsors
By karoli Tuesday Apr 06, 2010 9:00am Meet Don Blankenship, CEO of Massey Energy Company. Blankenship is also on the Board of Directors of the US Chamber of Commerce. In this speech above, he denies climate change, derisively refers to Speaker Pelosi, Senator Reid, and others as "greeniacs", and calls them all crazy. Watch the speech, you'll see. In his mind, "the greeniacs are taking over the world." Massey Energy Company, Blankenship's highly successful strip-mining and mountaintop removal operation is the parent company of Performance Coal Co, where a tragic explosion occurred on April 5th. As of this writing, 25 miners have died and 4 more are still missing. Twenty-five families are without a loved one. Four more may discover they have lost someone they love too. 29 families in all, forever changed by one single, violent event in a coal mine. One single violent event in a coal mine run by a company so obsessed with profit it runs roughshod over employees' and neighbors' health and safety. Here's something else about Don Blankenship and Massey Energy Company: Blankenship spent over $1 million dollars along with other US Chamber buddies like Verizon to sponsor last year's Labor Day Tea Party, also known as the "Friends of America Rally."http://friendsofamericarally.com/sponsors / Here's Massey's pitch. Note how he makes it sound like he isn't one of the corporate enemies of America. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiAc5IVXI7g... ... The Friends of America Rally featured such notables as Sean Hannity, Ted Nugent, and Hank Williams, Jr., and was graced by Blankenship himself going off on a diatribe that seemed strange at the time, but has come to be commonplace these days. It concerned President Obama, Democrats, and any one who doesn't salute God, coal, and apple pie. Oh, and we're also going to 'steal their jobs,' if Hannity is to be believed. Blankenship and Massey Energy spend millions to defend unsafe workplaces more: http://crooksandliars.com/karoli/massey-en... ...

Fri Apr 02nd 2010, 04:23 AM MOUNT DORA — A doctor who considers the national health-care overhaul to be bad medicine for the country posted a sign on his office door telling patients who voted for President Barack Obama to seek care "elsewhere."
"I'm not turning anybody away — that would be unethical," Dr. Jack Cassell, 56, a Mount Dora urologist and a registered Republican opposed to the health plan, told the Orlando Sentinel on Thursday. "But if they read the sign and turn the other way, so be it." The sign reads: "If you voted for Obama…seek urologic care elsewhere. Changes to your healthcare begin right now, not in four years." Estella Chatman, 67, of Eustis, whose daughter snapped a photo of the typewritten sign, sent the picture to U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson, the Orlando Democrat who riled Republicans last year when he characterized the GOP's idea of health care as, "If you get sick America … Die quickly." http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/...

Fri Mar 26th 2010, 01:09 PM I was visiting a Fundamentalist minister that I have know since I was a young teen ager, which is about thirty five years. The subject came around to this terrible economy and the preacher mentioned that one of his congregants works for a car repossession company. I said "Jesus wouldn't repossess someone's car especially a car he or she used for work ,just because the person has fallen on hard times."
I should have mentioned "I don't think Jesus would have foreclosed on someone either." Then we got around to talking about our favorite books in the Bible. He mentioned "Romans". I told him my favorite book was "Acts" because it discussed how the early Christians lived and how they lived as primitive communists: "They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. He is very conservative. I am surprised he didn't try to explain away how the early Christians were communists but he didn't, to his credit.

Fri Dec 18th 2009, 11:21 AM Florida’s unemployment rate rose to 11.5 percent in November, up two-tenths of a point from October’s revised rate of 11.3 percent.
The rate represents about 1.05 million jobless out of a labor force of 9.2 million. The statewide average is at its highest rate since May 1975 and is about 1.5 percentage points higher than the national rate. The statewide average has risen by 4.3 points since November 2008. In Metro Orlando, November’s rate climbed to 11.8 percent, up three-tenths of a point from October. Despite signs that the national recession is over — at least in a technical sense — employers remain hesitant to fill jobs they eliminated in the last two years or so. Florida, particularly hard hit by the downturn in home construction, is expected to recover more slowly than many states. Analysts say the jobless rate will likely increase slowly through the early part of 2010. http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/news_loca... ![]()

Sun Sep 06th 2009, 01:42 PM It's not his views. It's his hue.
Sad. And yesterday I saw a bumper sticker that said "American Revolution 2010" implying this government is illegitimate and tyrannical. I guess we really don't live in a post racial society.

He wasn't perfect but none of us are. But he made a difference and his commitment was always to the least of thee... Joe Kennedy taught his children that the rich could take care of themselves but the poor and working class folks sometimes needed a hand. Ted, you, your martyred brothers, Muhammad Ali, and Dr. King were my idols when I was a little kid and you still are. May you rest in peace and may your reunion with Jack and Bobby and Joe Jr. and the rest of your family be a happy one. Rest in peace.

Wed Apr 08th 2009, 03:43 PM WACO, Texas (AP) — Police said a fight over flatulence left one man stabbed and another facing an assault charge. A statement Wednesday said police were called to a motel where several men from the Houston area were sharing a room. Police said a 35-year-old man allegedly passed gas in the room Tuesday night.
Police said one of the other men became upset, picked up a knife and threw it at the 35-year-old man, who was cut in the leg. The suspect was accused of then stabbing the man in the chest. The 35-year-old was taken to the hospital and police said he was treated for non-life threatening wounds. The alleged attacker was arrested and faces an aggravated assault charge. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/nation...
