Nothing has changed in the 46 years since JFK was assassinated. The hate mongering, the demonizing, and the incitement to violence existed then. The 4th graders who cheered Kennedy's death are now the grown-ups with racial and nazi signs at tea parties. The era of Regan, Delay and Gringrich, along with the inflammatory rhetoric of talk radio and Fox News has emboldened these lunatic. The Republican party has cowered under pressure from these extreme right wing groups.

And this is just plain scary:
CNN's Rick Sanchez in a startling video reports threats against President Obama are up 400 percent.

http://www.rbguy.dailykos.com/storyonly/20... .

When will the moderate Republicans find a backbone, do what is right and condemn these groups.

As I read the article about William Manchester writing the 1967 best seller "The Death of a President", and got to the part about the political climate at the time, I couldn't stop drawing parallels and shudder.

Following is an excerpt from the article.

He also discovered that Kennedy had been warned not to make the trip. “Evangelist Billy Graham had attempted to reach Kennedy … about his own foreboding. The Dallas mood was no secret,” he wrote. And Senator William Fulbright, the liberal senator from Arkansas, had pleaded with Kennedy: “Dallas is a very dangerous place. I wouldn’t go there. Don’t you go.”

<snip>

Manchester also discovered that Dallas “had become the Mecca for medicine-show evangelists … the Minutemen, the John Birch and Patrick Henry Societies, and the headquarters of H. L. Hunt and his activities.”

“In that third year of the Kennedy presidency,” Manchester wrote, “a kind of fever lay over Dallas country. Mad things happened. Huge billboards screamed, ‘Impeach Earl Warren.’ Jewish stores were smeared with crude swastikas.…Radical Right polemics were distributed in public schools; Kennedy’s name was booed in classrooms; corporate junior executives were required to attend radical seminars.” A retired major general ran the American flag upside down, deriding it as “the Democrat flag.” A wanted poster with J.F.K.’s face on it was circulated, announcing “this man is Wanted” for—among other things—“turning the sovereignty of the US over to the Communist controlled United Nations” and appointing “anti-Christians … aliens and known Communists” to federal offices. And a full-page advertisement had appeared the day of the assassination in The Dallas Morning News accusing Kennedy of making a secret deal with the Communist Party; when it was shown to the president, he was appalled. He turned to Jacqueline, who was visibly upset, and said, “Oh, you know, we’re heading into nut country today.”

Manchester discovered that in a wealthy Dallas suburb, when told that President Kennedy had been murdered in their city, the students in a fourth-grade class burst into applause.

This is a holy war for them, they will never stop.

I was hoping I was wrong, but these new reports prove this is total intimidation, and a lot of "I'm doing it because I can and just try to stop me". I just fear that at one of these events someone will tick one of these idiots off.

This WILL escalate. How many protesters will show up "packing" in Montana and Colorado?

Friday Obama will be in Montana and Saturday in Colorado for town hall meetings. Both states are "open carry" states as best I can tell. This loony tune and the exposure he received will no doubt encourage others of his ilk to show up armed at these 2 events. This will now be the new "norm" for the rw loonies when they are protesting Democratic events. If so, at some point there will be a tragedy. And that could be the spark that ignites an armed rebellion.

This is a slippery slope. The wackos will be embolden by the guy in NH and egged on by the RW talkers.

I am still pretty impressed that every single day except weekends a postal worker stops at every mail box that is receiving mail that day and leaves the mail. That for less than 50 cents, I can put a birthday card in a mailbox in Florida and within 2 working days it is received in Virginia. That I receive subscription magazines every week or month like clockwork. That at Christmas all the Christmas cards are delivered. That for my house alone during the holidays, my mailperson delivers probably 20 pounds of catalogs. That priority mail IS priority and overnight mail IS overnight. That in the many years of getting and sending mail, I would have to say the USPS accuracy rate is 99.9%

To compare FEDEx and UPS with the USPS is a false comparison. Other than package delivery, and overnight document delivery, they perform none of the other functions I mentioned above.

Senator Nelson, my understanding is you are still weighing whether or not you will support a healthcare reform bill that contains a “Public Option”. As a Florida Democrat, I urge you to get behind the public option plan. Your lack of support for such a plan will surely cost you my vote and that of many Florida Democrats and Independents. Stand up and be counted Senator Nelson.

Stand up and get on board Senator Nelson.
Stand with the Democrats who support a public option.
Stand up for the millions of Americans denied heath care by the insurance industry for pre-existing conditions.
Stand up for the American families who are living paycheck to paycheck and cannot afford health insurance.
Stand up for the American families who are one serious illness away from bankruptcy.
Stand up for the millions of Americans who if they lose their jobs, lose their health care.
Stand up for the millions of Americans who would like to start their own business, but cannot leave their current job because they will lose their health insurance.
Stand up against the health insurance industry and their co-pays, deductibles, and caps.
Stand up against the health insurance industry that award their management with million dollar bonuses.
Stand up to stop health insurance companies from getting between us and our doctors.
Stand up against the health insurance industry who incentify claim denials.
Stand up against the health insurance industry who has poured billions of dollars into lobby groups and Senators’ pockets to stop any type of healthcare insurance reform.
Stand up against the likes of Dick Armey, Glen Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity who have vilified YOUR President and his efforts to reform health care insurance.
Use some of the courage you had when you flew in the Shuttle in 1986 to stand up against the right wing crazies who would tear our country apart.
In 2005 you voted in favor of the bankruptcy "reform" bill that made it harder for individuals to rid themselves of insurmountable debt.
This year you voted against setting a limit on credit-card company usury.
That’s two strikes against you Senator Nelson, don’t let there be a third.
Stand up and be a Democrat, not just in name but in your actions.
Stand up and be counted Senator Nelson.

First, the tag name you chose is appropriate. " Hamartia is often referred to as tragic flaw and has many examples throughout literature, especially in Greek tragedy. Bible translators may reach this conclusion, according to T. C. W. Stinton, because another common interpretation of hamartia can be seen as a “moral deficit” or a “moral error” (Stinton 221)."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamartia

Who ensures our produce and meat products meet certain levels of hygiene and healthiness.
Who keeps our cities, towns and states safe.
Who incarcerates criminals
Who prosecutes criminals
Who ensures that drugs released for sale to the public are safe
Who responds for disaster relief
Who sent humans to the moon and safely back to earth
Who regulates or did regulate the financial systems until deregulation. That worked so well getting goverment off our backs didn't it.
Who insures your bank account against bank failures
Who provides student loans
Who preserves our National Parks and Forests
Who protects all citizens from age, race sex and religious discrimination.
Who provided the opportunity for higher education for our military through the GI Bill
Who patrols our coastlines and risks their lives to save lives.

The government that who... Men and women doing a thankless job by your reckoning.
And I could list hundreds of other examples where the government(local, county, state national) touches your life in one way or another that you and so many others just take for granted. But remove those safeguards, remove those underlying services and you would have a nation in chaos.

Does everything work 100% perfect every time. No. But to say "I understand that there are people that depend on the government for much of their resources and that is unfortunate because the government is unreliable and has been for quite some time." Is just downright stupid, ignorant and dumb.

Whatever your personal ambitions or self interests, please put them on the back burner for the next two years. Work as one with President Obama for the best interests of the United States. Don't let the lobbyists influence you as they dangle money in your face. Keep your sexual proclivities under control. In short be honorable men and women and do the people's work. For most of you this won't be a stretch. But it will only take only one or two incidents of shenanigans or a scandal to give the Republicans ammunition for what will be an endless drumbeat of "we told you so".

Get it right Gentle ladies and Gentlemen, and 2010 could be another banner year for the Democrats. Then build on that so in 2012 Barack Obama won't only be re-elected, but it will be a 50 state sweep. Pursue your own agendas and you may just squander America's last best hope.

Ms. Pelosi and Mr. Reid, our future is in your hands. Don't let power go to your heads. Lead your respective members to work cooperatively with the Obama administration. Let's show America how government of the people, by the people, and for the people really works.

Thank you.
