Today in Bush History, 12/22...

On this date we have reports of Bush's dropping military support, and of Bush's enduring support for big-pharma. As one senator points out, "The pharmaceutical industry has bought off the White House". Also getting a mention: It's Blago!

Meanwhile, the annual Military Times poll describes dropping support for Bush's Iraq war amongst service members.

More details, from the 2009 Bush Blunder Calendar ...

Disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff's White House ties are in the news, as papers report on a plea deal in the works (giving us the chance to mention President Omar Bongo and a $9 million dollar coincidence). Also Condoleezza Rice coldly considers soldier's lives lost in Iraq to be an "investment". And a Bushism or two.

On this date Bush fails in his plan to put under his thumb those military JAGs who have been protesting Bush abuses such as detainee kangaroo-courts and the elimination of long-honored principles like habeas corpus. Also on this date, reports that Bush dreams of dictatorship(he's joking, or is he?), and more on his dictator-like snubbing of US law. And a Bushism.

A Bush neo-con has admitted that Bush said on this date in 2002 that war with Iraq was "inevitable", even though WMD inspectors had yet to report their findings. Evidence on the ground mattered little, it seems. Also on this date, happy talk from Bush & Cheney about Iraq, while anarchy reigned there. Also, Bush passes the buck, and a Bushism.

A Bush insider says of Bush's actions on this date: "The three individuals who got the highest civilian medals the President can give were responsible for a lot of the debacle that was Iraq". Good choice for the nation's highest honor, Mr. President! Also, the Army's top general warns that Bush policies "will break" the Army if they are allowed to continue.

Bush's nomination of a new HUD head on this date spurs today's review of the seemingly corrupt & incompetent Alphonso Jackson. He pushed for changes to allow more risky loans, and to make fraud harder to detect, just before the sub prime collapse.

Also are car bombs the sound of 'democracy in action'? A soldier's interesting take on Iraq and a related Bushism.

Bush History-Bush Says Nukes are Greatest Threat, so Why Are They a Low Priority? 12/11

I had been posting on GI but was told that GI: Presidential is more appropriate for Bush History. I plan to keep these going until Inauguration Day.

Bush History: 365 Reasons to Celebrate the Obama administration!

Bush says nukes are the greatest threat to our security, so one wonders why he seem to put such low priority on protecting us from them. From choice of nations to invade, to securing nuclear material around the world, the Bush administration is NOT treating nuke security as job #1. Also, a related Bushism.

Cheney claims 'iffy' facts are really something "pretty much confirmed": he later denies his own words. Also Bush advances on his plan to hide the truth so as to push through glaringly obvious irresponsible tax cuts. And 10,000 scientists ask Bush to stop manipulating scientific truths to support his politics.

Remember how the 2004 presidential vote came down to Ohio? On this date a highly unethical Bush administration maneuver insured that a civil rights investigation of the Ohio vote would not happen. Also on this date, Bush's press secretary said that even Bush balked at a 2nd round of tax cuts for the rich, 'til Rove and Cheney pulled him back in. And a deficit snapshot.

Europe, of course, is a key ally in the terror fight; tips and resources from the EU have been of great value to the US. It is of no help then, when the Bush administration does bone headed things such as throwing an innocent vacationing German into an Afghan prison dubbed the 'Salt Pit'. Also on this date, more LIEs about WMDs.

On this date Laura Bush makes reading recommendations. Also the world gathers to discuss the critical matter of climate change. Given the urgency, President Bush sends no one. Come 2007, the world is meeting again on warming, this time with a message for the US: If you're "not willing to lead, leave it to the rest of us ... (and) Please get out of the way". Also, Mr. Bush speaks of "federal cufflinks". Cufflinks?

On this date President Bush announces he's picked the bumbling 'Brownie' to head FEMA (given Bush's FEMA history, Ben F's quote today is spot on). Also, a Columbia University historian explains in the Washington Post exactly WHY he is calling Bush the worst Prez ever. And sadly, 80 Afghan innocents are killed by U.S. bombs. And a Bushism.

On this date Bush misleads us by saying Saddam misleads us on WMDs.

In a related bizarre Bushism, the president declares that Saddam has killed the very much alive South African hero Nelson Mandela!

Also, historians speculate: is Bush the worst of the presidents?

Today a tale of military insiders and a Bush insider who have come out against the Iraq war. On this date the U.S. Army War College releases a study that spells out in no uncertain terms a few of the reasons why. Also today, related Bushisms, including President Bush's preferred term for the 'war on terror'. It's a mouthful; no wonder if never caught on!

Bush's inept Iraq planning failures cause a shift in Pentagon policy. Also a Bush admininistration insider decries Bush's "immoral" interrogation techniques. Finally, a Bushism and a related thought by Abe Lincoln
