How does the HCR bill going to the Supreme Court to vote on constitutionality of Fed/State insurance mandates affect Medicare, VA & Medicade if it is voted down. They are all tied together the way I see it. Can anyone who understands it explain it to me. Thanks

Hello DU's,
It's been forever since I've posted. I had to take a break from politics (forgive me) but it was making me sick & upset. I'm trying to re-engage and I am very confused. I want single payer health care desperately. I have a bunch of questions on OWS and want their plans are for changing our laws in this country.

Is OWS advocating for Health Care?
How long do they intend on Occupying cities?
Are they planning on going through the winter?
Are they meeting with Lawmakers?
Or are the lawmakers planning on waiting them out until they go away?

I am so confused. Can someone please explain it all to me.

Any insight would be helpful. Thank You & sorry I'm not that informed.

Hi! I've been receiving some emails that various States have past legislation in supporting changing to a Popular Vote system instead of the Electoral college. I believe 7 States have past this legislation. Now normally I would be all for this, especially after 2000 with Al Gore, BUT Republicans are voting for it I guess so I'm suspicious.

Does Anyone here know anything about it?

Thanks!

I hope I'm reading this right.. The Justice dept just dropped Defense of Bush Officials over interrogations tactics. So they (Bush officials) or the US government have to hire private attorneys and are not represented by the US Justice dept. The only person not dropped is Robert Gates.

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0211/...

The Justice Department under President Barack Obama has quietly dropped its legal representation of more than a dozen Bush-era Pentagon and administration officials - including former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and aide Paul Wolfowitz - in a lawsuit by Al Qaeda operative Jose Padilla, who spent years behind bars without charges in conditions his lawyers compare to torture.

Charles Miller, a Justice Department spokesman, confirmed Tuesday that the government has agreed to retain private lawyers for the officials, at a cost of up to $200 per hour. Miller said “conflicts concerns” prompted the decision. He did not elaborate.

One private attorney involved in the case, who asked not to be named, said the Obama administration apparently concluded “its duty to represent the defendants zealously, which includes the duty to argue any and all defenses, can’t be discharged for reasons of policy and other government interests.”

The Justice Department continues to represent only a single official, Defense Secretary Robert Gates, in the suit.

Holy Cow, is this what we've been waiting for? What does this mean?

I found this post at the daily kos with video of 2 Teabaggers wanting to end Social Security.

Link:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/3/30/85... !

Here's a copy of what the Teabagger said (I'm copying from the dailykos post)

KING: Dana, are you a little concerned about tea partiers who use the word terrorism when talking about the president?

LOESCH: I think perhaps that went -- that's maybe an adjective that is a little bit egregious. But there are things that they --

KING: A little bit?

LOESCH: I mean they do -- I mean they do have some valid concerns, though. I mean, we just saw this health care legislation go through. And I've mentioned it before. it's -- it completely disregarded the original intent of the commerce clause and the welfare clause and the constitution. I mean for the first time ever in American history just to exist in this country you have to purchase the product now. You have to purchase the insurance. And they can try to make it --

KING: No. Wait a minute. We have -- we had to pay social security. That was a socialist concept. Republicans voted against it.

LOESCH: I agree.

KING: Would anyone turn away social security now? Would you do away with it?

LOESCH: I would, yes.

KING: You would?

LOESCH: Yes, absolutely.

KING: Would do you away with it, Wayne?

ROOT: I'd certainly like to. At best, I do away with it because I could find better ways to spend and save my own $15,000 a year.

KING: If you would put it up for a vote in America, what do you think the vote would be on social security in America? Referenda.

ROOT: I think if you put it up for a vote, I think, a majority of people today would want to keep it. But they certainly would want to privatize a small portion of it. I personally think I could do better with my own $15,000 a year any day of the week and I'd like it to be mine. It's mine. So, I'd like to leave it to my kids and grandkids the way it stands now --

KING: That wasn't the purpose. When it began, the purpose was you are your brother's keeper, right?

ROOT: But, Larry, you got to realize that money is not there. Do you realize they said it was going to be in a lock box. But there is nothing there in the lock box but a bunch of IOUs from a bankrupt government. So that money is being like --

LOESCH: And it was established as a temporary program.

KING: Maybe tea partiers will turn it back.

If you are as mad, as I am at the Teabaggers threats to our Congressman, calling them Ni^^ers and Fa^^ots, the Gas line being cut at the home of a Dem Congressman's brother, One Dem Congresswoman's children's lives were threatened to be murdered, it's ENOUGH!!! SO Let's show our Solidarity to our Dems.

The only way to show them we are rebelling against them is to call and send $$ like we did for during the campaign. Please Please!! Show these jerks they are just organizing us.

1. Donate $5 to the DNC or your Democratic Congressman or Democratic Challenger
2. Donate $5 to Organizing for America
3. Call your Republican Congressmen and tell them to tell the Tea partiers to stop the Violence.
4. Contact Bachmann, Pence, King & Kingston specifically and tell them to stop inciting Violence.

MAKE THIS VIRAL, email this to all your friends

respond here if you'll do this!

"Few are willing to brave the disapproval of their fellows, the censure of their colleagues, the wrath of their society. Moral courage is a rarer commodity than bravery in battle or great intelligence. Yet it is the one essential, vital quality for those who seek to change a world that yields most painfully to change. And I believe that in this generation those with the courage to enter the moral conflict will find themselves with companions in every corner of the globe."

These words are Senator Ted Kennedy's eulogy for Bobby Kennedy

We should all take these words to heart, not to just mourn for Senator Kennedy's passing, but as a Rallying cry to get the the "Cause of his Life" Health Care passed. These words ring true today as we are having guns at our HC rallies and lying spewed forth, we must be brave.

Please register your support for health care at

Ed is a perfect example of how Democratic Union members and Democratic Midwesterner think. He's from N.D. so he represents us very well. He's a die hard true blue democrat. He speaks plainly, forcefully, and honestly. He's tough. Rush is scared to death of him. Rush tried to bully a bunch of his stations to drop Ed. Then, Rush was calling him a bunch of names and running him down. So Ed offered to compete against Rush in any forum he wants: debate, golf, running, shooting, target practice, and a fight. He called Rush a coward and basically a pussy on the air. It was hilarious. Rush has never spoken about him since. Ed would kick his butt in all those areas.

He's going after full support of public option and said he is willing to get kicked of MSNBC for it.
