Down By The River - Archives
I heard a sermon this morning talking about Oscar Romero, the assassinated archbishop of San Salvador. He was assassinated in 1980 while administering mass by El Salvadoran Death squads.
It got me thinking about how John Negroponte is associated with death squads in Nicaragua, and is now the Director of National Intelligence.
I really wonder if we aren't truly under the rule of the fascists right now. I tend to think that we are. These people would not stop at "assassinating" Americans who might rise up in revolt if the Bushies steal another election.
I think that everything is in place to steal the election, except the outrage that could ensue if that happens.
Let's all remember that the polls show the Democrats beating the pants off the Republicans nationwide. If this doesn't happen, we have to stand up and fight back. I don't know what that will mean, or how it will happen. Count me in though! I won't stand for my son growing up in a fascist nation.
So Oscar Romero, I salute you, whether you are sainted or not, you were a powerful voice for the oppressed of El Salvador, and you died defending your right to speak out and to fight back.
I only hope that I can and will be as brave when the time comes to stand up for freedom and this once great nation.
Peace
Always warms my heart to see the big dog, Bill Clinton out on the stump for candidates.
I've lived in Arkansas since he was first contemplating (at least publicly) running for President. I remember being in Grad school and one of his aides came to speak to our class. He told us (1987)that Clinton wouldn't run in 88 because he knew that Bush had too good a shot at it then, but that Bush would HAVE to raise taxes and that this would destroy his chances at a second term and that would open things up for a Clinton run in 1992! Did he call it right or what?
That man is a genius and a human with flaws that are very public, but I'd still trade him for anyone on the R side of the ticket and I'd trade him for a lot of those possible candidates on the D side of the ticket.
I truly believe that some day Bill will be viewed as one of our greatest Presidents who was hamstrung by a right wing congress that tried to destroy him.
Clinton Rocks!!!!
OSU Rolls On To Defeat Baylor!
Whipped up on Nebraska today, defeating them 41-29! Nebraska ranked at #20 before the game. After the first quarter I thought that I was going to be unable to watch the game. Then the Cowboys put up a fight and stayed within 3 points before the half. The Cowboys came back from the half fired up! As an alumni of OSU I was thrilled and proud of OSU today.
Now, I'm watching this Texas v. Texas Tech game and am seeing Texas pulling it out and beating Tech. McCoy just ran for a major gain running the clock down.
Texas will be a tough game. If OSU could beat them, well, I will just have to wait and see!
I don't hate Republicans, I hate their philosophy of life. I hate the way they treat people. I hate the sanctimonious way they view the world. I hate the ideas they have for America. I hate what they have done to my country. I hate the things I believe they have planned for our country. I hate that my son will be paying off our debts because of them. I hate thay any grandchildren I may have some day will be paying for Republican spending. I hate the wars they start. I hate the death that ensues. I hate the way they try to push religion into the mix (then laugh at the Evangelicals for being gullible enough to support them) I hate how Republicans have taken the notion of "conservative" and made it into something not conservative and yet those who proclaim to be conservative don't seem to notice. I hate the fact that Republicans would probably still cheer Bush if he were to eat a child on TV. I hate a lot of things about Republicans. Do I hate Republicans? On a case by case basis, I might hate individual Republicans, but mostly I think that the majority of people who vote Republican are just scared, gullible people. I hate what Republicans have done in the name of God and country to scare people.
out of the defense budget?
a week in Iraq?
Hello Mr.? Ms.? Secret Service Agent
screw you mr/ms secret service agent
i know you are just doing your job
but i think that your job has been to harrass people under the * administration for too long
did you always do your job the way you do now?
i mean, investigate away on people who make threats
but why do you arrest people for protesting at anti * rallies that are "too close" to *?
just wondering
That being said, I can't say that I always speak up to "good Germans" when it comes to apathy.
Apathy is what happens when people can no longer pay attention. The pace of the information coming to people is overwhelming at times to some, if not most of us.
I work all day, try to do the "family things", am exhausted, try to keep up with the news on the internet(s), yet, I abbreviate my attention span when it comes to all of the details of a story.
I admire the people that are on top of stories, and can explain the nuances of complicated issues. I can do that with things that I have time for.
I already don't get enough sleep, like most people by the way. (No 8 hours here)
I am not a "good German" though, I vote, I tell people what I think, and I don't let apathy take over despite the fact that I feel that societal pressures push in the direction of fostering apathy.
I don't even have time for dancing with the stars anymore.
So, I only hope that when history comes for me, that I can answer truthfully, that while the fascist fires were burning, that I did something!
If not for my sake, then for my son's sake.
He came home from 1st grade with a Navy pencil. WTF?
I live in a red state, surrounded by red states. Yet we have a majority of legislators (State and Federal) that are Democrats.
I am hoping that we will elect a Democrat for Governor, Lt. Governor, Atty. General, and maintain the majority in the state legislature. We won't win with a Dem in my very red area of the state for US House, but at least he is having to buy ads and billboards. In the past (Boozman 3rd AR) he hasn't had to do anything but raise money and sell bullshit.
I'd like to think that somehow I can claim non-apathy in this election, although I admit, I haven't done as much this time around as I have previously.
