Middle East nations, and under one pretext or another rob them of their oil over the past 60+ years, 9/11 would never have happened. And all the mildly unpleasant as well as the deadly consequences resulting from 9/11 would never have happened either -- from the long waits and humiliating inconvience of being strip-searched at airports, to the incredible horrors of the Middle-East wars. As Shakespeare had said: "The evil that men do, long liveth after them." And corporatists aren'...

This morning, for the first time, a member of the U.S. Congress is officially introducing our People’s Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. This is a breakthrough we’ve been working toward since launching our campaign nearly two years ago. Congratulations! Now is the time to drum up some serious support for it. Please sign on now, then spread the word as widely as you can: (Link) Here’s the language of the Amendment, which is virtually identical to the version chosen by m...

knowledge of how to govern. They are so deeply and totally involved in stuffing their own pockets with ill-gotten profits, that they can't help but ignore doing anything else - outside of lying about what they are doing. In order to reach 9%, it can only mean that many of the right-wingers themselves are voting against the right-wing Congress. Correct? Don't right-wingers make up more than 20% of the political spectrum? Even many of the slow ones can't help but notice what is happening to...

This has to be carefully watched for, since nothing will destroy the present positive mood for Occupy Wall Street faster than having it seen by the American public as a "violent mob." And this is what the right-wingers want. (Link)

If we looked back for something in the past that is similar to what is happening today, one would be the years of the Great Depression before FDR became president. FDR was successful, America became prosperous again. How long did this prosperity last? Roughly until the Clinton years -- about 60-plus years. Then came Bush, Jr. A down period followed by an up, and then another down. So we are at the beginning of struggling for another up period, and this will be a long, hard struggle. ...

In Wikipedia Encyclopedia's article on "Occupy Wall Street," about one-third of the way down, there is this brief section on the participant make-up of the Movement: << Participants In late September, the Occupy Wall Street protest spread to Boston and other cities. General breakdown: The movement is leaderless, centered upon the statement: "The one thing we all have in common is that We are the 99% that will no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the 1%." The protests have bro...

Today it's Corporations vs you and me." I don't remember the name of the writer, but I never forgot that message. He sure made a remarkably accurate assessment of the situation, didn't he? All the way up the line. Not many people saw it, or described it so neatly.

does no good for Occupy WS, but it creates a huge annoyance for New Yorkers trying to get somewhere. We have to watch out for those GOPers. When you see a few people doing something that will only make the goals of Occupy Wall Street look bad -- think twice about following them, or not! Don't simply follow blindly. It could be the GOP's way of fighting back. (Just trying to be of help).

that his wife had earned over a number of years, and which he had never declared on his income tax. Finally! I think the important thing is that Thomas' dishonesty gets a good public exposure. There are so many people (Reps. especially) who know nothing about the wrong-doings of high government officials. Some of these latter will learn something different, for a change. It would be of benefit to real justice in this country of ours, if he resigned out of shame. But, I think he has a very...

This is quite remarkable!! Look at this lady - Let us never forget! The world hasn't just become wicked...it's always been wicked. The prize doesn't always go to the most deserving. Irena Sendler There recently was a death of a 98 year-old lady named Irena. During WWII, Irena, got permission to work in the Warsaw ghetto, as a Plumbing/Sewer specialist. She had an 'ulterior motive'. She KNEW what the Nazi's plans were for the Jews (being German). Irena ...

are now pressuring all 50 states to give them legal immunity from accountability in future investigations. Hi, this is Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway. I wanted to make sure you heard about an important issue. The same Wall Street banks whose irresponsible actions led to our nation's economic collapse are now pressuring all 50 states to give them legal immunity. The banks want to block any criminal or civil accountability for actions that have yet to be investigated. Attorneys General...

of the people withdrew their accounts from each of those banks that had taken part in all those corrupt and crooked dealings, these overbearing and arrogant executives would be begging for help! I imagine that many people don't even know of the existence of "credit unions." I never heard of them until about 2 years ago. (Although I realize how important money is, I am not too interested in the business world. I find that kind of work boring). A credit union functions exactly as a bank do...

"Occupy Wall Street" is composed mainly of college students, and they will try to keep it up indefinitely. I think corporate execs. are afraid of them, should they keep it up indefinitely. They are afraid of having more and more Americans beginning to realize that the endless greed of Corporate America is bringing misery and death to hundreds of thousands of individual Americans - 47,000 Americans die each year from lack of medical attention alone - and is the principal cause of the declin...

Around the year 2000 when DNA testing came into general use, it was found that some of those in prison accused of murder were actually innocent. The governor of Illinois, a Republican, immediately ordered the 23 inmates on death-row in his state be given the test. 12 of the 23 were found to be innocent! That's just a little over half of those men condemned to die. The governor put a stop to all executions until further study. I don't know how the final results of the study turned out. Impl...

to help out by simply switching on to Current TV, even it's only for a few minutes, Mo. - Fr. between 8 & 9 p.m., before returning to your favorite program. Democrats don't yet have a powerful TV station. We're lucky to have any Dem. TV station at all. Let's all help to make it into a powerful one. Now is the time when we are all needed! (Link)

They were afraid of a coup from the military/industrial complex. I can hardly believe it -- especially when the will of the people was clear, and Dems. had both houses of congress. And Obama probably still has most of these advisers around! (Link)

Yes, according to Daily Kos. How could the GOP openly oppose Obama's proposals, and expect not to have repercussions in Nov. 2012? And Ric Cantor has already opened his big mouth in loud criticism. Others are expected to follow -- Rush Limbaugh, for example. Well, how many of us here at DU have a high opinion of the average right-wingers' intelligence? (Link)

now just read "Obama is already one of America's greatest presidents" by ProSense here under "General Discussion: Presidency." I must say that there are some excellent and true points to both messages, yet they are the exact opposites of each other. These messages help one to see how Dems become divided. A lot depends on which points are more important to the individual reader. There are also some points I have never known anything about. For those who haven't yet made up their minds, these ...

which will take place in November, 2011. This is about half a year before Scott Walker's repeal election of Wisconsin! Only 231,000 votes are required for a repeal referendum in Ohio to take place, but by April this year, Dems had alreadty collected 1.3 million - some 5-1/2 times the minimum number. This must have been frightening to John Kasich. Hence, his offer. Obama should learn from this that right-wingers have only contempt for gentlemanly behavior. What they do respect is action fr...

or elections a la Stalin -- for show purposes only. Many people, even here at DU, don't yet seem to realize how close we are to an oligarchy or a dictatorship. The following is one of my reasons: We all know that the Repubs are doing away with the middle-class Americans, correct? We also know that the middle-class people are the ones who spend the most money in proportion to their earnings. They need to spend most of the money they bring home just to cover the rent, food, clothing, health i...

for a moment. And when you are calm and still enough, take a good look within, and ask yourself the question, "Is there a streak of vindictiveness in me? I do have that streak, and I still find myself practicing it on occasion. It used to happen much more frequently when I was younger. So, I find it a reasonable solution to vote for a good and competent Progressive if there should be one running against Obama. But if Obama should still win, I'll vote for him in Nov. 2012 against any r...

This article claims that many Repub. senators and reps. are facing angry constitutents at home right now, the result of the activities of Dems in publicizing what the Repubs. have done in Congress this past year. Well and good. But will this keep up for another 14 months? As voters learn more about Republicans? extremist agenda, buyer?s remorse is clearly setting in. A new PPP poll this week shows that Congressional Democrats lead Republicans 47-40. The pollster?s reaction says it all: ?This...
