On Cheney/Dr. Strangelove being a patriot...
...I really truly - in my heart of hearts - believe he's only in it for the money/power from Blackwater, etc. - that whole military-industrial complex b.s. We have a war-based economy &, for a long time, he ran it. (Didn't you look behind the curtain?)

On the other hand, I also really believe GWB believes everything he says. He only knows what they told him. Too bad, he's such a dumbass.

The only way I got thru the last 8 years was to watch West Wing & pretend that Bartlet was my President. (I wish I could say I was making that up!)

Thank God, we have a President that's smarter than anyone in the room...

After viewing the video of Pres. Obama saluting the 'fallen soldiers'
That was powerful, moving and heartbreaking. My heart goes out to the families and friends of those soldiers, and to our President, as well. I've never seen him look so pained...

I'm a writer/teacher/actor/activist...

In one of my workshops, a woman from Zimbabwe kept writing these beautiful, heartbreaking stories about what was going on back home. The third time she did that, I said, "It's not enough to feel bad. Now that we know about it, we need to do something to help. You need to call your Mom and find out what they need & then we need to help them get it."
Her whole demeanor changed. It was like I lit the pilot light under her. She felt empowered. She now had a plan and was on a mission. We wound up 'adopting' an orphanage and an AIDS clinic. She got the Church to tithe to them. Her sister's birthday party had people bringing presents for the children instead of herself. (I donated 3 of my children's books.) And, on and on...
Most people, given the chance, regardless of their politics, are willing to help others. Sometimes, they don't know how. It's our job, as writers/ artists to share our knowledge and experiences and be part of the solution... whatever the problem/need is.
That's my two cents'...

PS I'm fairly new here. I'm gonna see if I can make you a Buddy...

On the plight of a pregnant rape victim...
...they will let her know what ALL her options are. If she decides to keep the baby, Catholic hospitals will help her to do that. In any event, she should talk to a rape crisis counselor, get medical treatment (pre-natal or other), deal with the drinking, etc. I hope she reported it to the police. If not, she should do it right away. It may be too let in her case, but it may help them find the rapist so no one else has to go through this, as well.
I'll keep her in my thoughts & prayers... you, too!

On What is a professional writer?
For me, it's the difference between the idea originating with me as opposed to being hired to write for someone else. I do the latter mainly to support the former... A librarian once bought one of my children's books, then shook my hand & said, "It's so lovely to meet an author." It was a long time ago & it still makes me smile...
