It will have to be the general fund that pays for SS benefits.
That is the only way to cover everyone, so if the payroll tax cut goes away, it will be for the best.
That way we when tax millionaires fairly they will pay fairly for SS which they don't now do.
Seems some folks don't quite grok what socialism is and isn't.
To me, a good example of socialism in the US is our road and highway system. It is owned by the people and is a means to production.
Other examples are the schools and libraries. One could even claim the defense department is socialism. It is owned by the people, eh?
There are many examples of good socialistic people owned government run operations in this country. We are, imo, 75 % socialstic.
Divided by the 10 years I have been here that is 2362 posts a year.
Wow. Really? That many?
We started out here with bush having stole the election of 2000 and having a place where we could all commiserate and shed our fears, we now have a Democratic president and are at each other's throats, at times.
It has been one hell of a ride. For all you newbies, just one word of advice: Buckle Up and Hang On!
There is a striking difference between being a member of one of the two main American political parties.
Besides the fact that most of the republicans who are in office are only working to win the next election instead of taking care of the country, there is another, deeper, more basic foundational difference.
Remember that republican saying from about 2002?
The saying: "You are either with us or against us".
It wasn't just a political statement, it was an edict from the republicans that "You better watch what you say and who you say it to."
That is the way of the republican party: "Fall in behind and do as we say, or else."
The party I align with, the party that I am most comfortable being a member of, is the Democratic party. I am proud to be a democrat. Democrats would never tell us you are either are with us or against us. If they did they'd be run out of town on a rail.
The leaders of my party know better than to tell we members that we better watch what we say.
We are free to be for the good and against the bad that our leaders produce.
We Democrats speak up and do not toe the masters' line like the 'good' republicans do.
No, we Democrats would never be in lockstep like the republicans are, and it makes us a bit un-jointed. My fellow members wouldn't have it any other way. That is another reason why I am proud to be a Democrat.
"I am proud to be a Democrat, where at least I know I'm free!"
...the nearest occupy is too far away?
Then plan on Occupying the next local Democratic Party Meeting.
Right close to home your voice needs to be heard and what better place than right at your closest political meeting? Sure, you're gonna piss them off, but didn't they already piss you off?
The Occupy movement has awaken.
Obama's lead in and election was like a dream which caused the sleepers to have a vision of better things just around the corner.
Then, once the reality set in that Obama was not strong enough on his own accord to bring real change, the people decided to get up, stand up, and make their dream come to life.
The very idea that the abuse of power was continuing unabated is the reason which caused cause this awakening. And that is the mantra of the time: The abuse of power by the elite 1% has to end. We should all share equally the power in our governance, that is all we are asking. That is what the people are demanding.
So how could you know what Truthers think? You don't think the same as Truthers.
There are many rational reasons for being a Truther. Chief among them is the vast evidence of a vast cover-up. And here, 10 years later, you admit that it is a very serious matter. Where have you been for these 10 years? What have you, Seger, been thinking all this time? All this time the cover-up is nothing, but now it is suddenly a 'serious matter'? I call that progress for you, Seger. Not that it matters one shit, but you have, finally, a breakthrough?
The chairman, vice chairman, and senior legal counsel of the 9/11 Commission wrote books partially disassociating themselves from the commission's report. They said that the Bush administration put obstacles in their path, that information was withheld from them, that President Bush agreed to testify only if he was chaperoned by Vice President Cheney and neither were put under oath, that Pentagon and FAA officials lied to the commission and that the commission considered referring the false testimony for investigation for obstruction of justice.
Obama knows the left isn't going anywhere. He knows it is the squishy middle that will decide and he's playing to them to get their votes. Meantime, Empire is taking up a large part of his time.
I think those who dislike Empire are really mad at Obama for doing Empires' bidding. I know I am.
And those who like or are oblivious to Empire are Obama's greatest supporters and include most of the squishy middle.
Activism which does not follow these guidelines can be a huge waste of time.
Except in times of crisis; then it's whoever is the squeakiest wheel.
What could have happened was the machine count was made and adjusted to win and then the ballot bags were stuffed with the paper needed to verify the machines. Of course they had to pull enough of the negative votes out to keep the number of ballots the same.
Easy to do especially given the fact that the ballots were not recounted for at least a week and the machine count was not adjusted for a day or two.
Easily done. There is nothing anyone can say now that would convince any of the veracity of that vote count.
There is a whole lot of solid, well researched information about how the voting machines steal or miscount votes.
Your labeling that information as 'Kookie' does a great disservice to you and our cause.
You really should reconsider your willfully ignorant stance on this issue.
And offer up opinions like that dud did.
What is it you like about myths?
And this is a gem of yours: "If you only read the things you've already decided to disagree with, obviously you won't get much out of the website, no matter what anyone posts here."
Now that is projection!!
I read things first, then see if I agree, or disagree. To read something I don't agree with before I read it is only something bushco supporters are able to do.
Gawd, there I go again, giving you a reading lesson. Shame on me!!
Now, where was I? Oh yeah.... Why should I read myths again?
Indeed, it is something not to be talked about in polite company.
Certainly not at a party. And certainly rewritten if ever to be presented in schools.
The only bright spot I can see is this: We are still here!
My deepest and warmest regards to you, McCamy
"When I was first elected, I was a completely naive and gauche politician. You look at the pillars of the state: politics, the media, police, lawyers – they've all got their formal role, and then nestling above that is that power elite who are networked in through soft, social links, that are actually running the show. "
