I appreciate all the comments on GOPer idiocy and meanness, but I think we should address at least some of it to those in Congress - I offer links to the communications page of several GOP "leaders" so you can send them your regards and comments and advice over the next few years:
Mitch McConnell: http://www.contactingthecongress.org/cgi-b... John Boehner: http://www.contactingthecongress.org/cgi-b... Lindsey Graham: http://www.contactingthecongress.org/cgi-b... Michelle Bachmann: http://www.contactingthecongress.org/cgi-b... I hope that many here will share your feelings and comments with these people on a regular basis, now that they will have much more control over our lives and future. Thanks and Merry Christmas! (I am putting this in my journal so you can access it later if you wish.) Mark

what could be causing that! Link:
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/14/science/... With the new GOP "leadership" in the House opposed to the idea of global warming on "religious" grounds, I guess we won't see any effort to try to solve this before DC is under water...maybe they will pray to stop the flooding then. mark

I voted for the candidate I understood to be the "most liberal Senator", a candidate who scared and angered the right wingers and who promised to bring real change to this sorry assed nation.
I was expecting Harry Truman, would have been delighted with Lyndon Johnson, wound up with Richard Nixon, a President who sounded tough, but went oput of his way to appear to please his opponents. Now I see media experts gleefully stating how far to the right the Democratic Party will be going and how the accomplishments of the Obama administration will soon be undone by the GOP. Meanwhile, Mr Obama seeks MORE compromise and appeasement wirth those whe hate him and have pledged to destroy him and his presidency...Oh, yeah, and the "Liberals", too...like we need help destroying ourselves. I see locazl businesses displaying large signs thanking "Patriots" for voting the Democrats virtually out of office here in PA - it was a rout and a near toatal sweep from Governor on down, despite Dems having over 1 million more registered voters than the GOP. We gave it all away. Mr Obama, you might as well change your party affiliation now in the interest of that "transparancy" thing, but I suppose the right would hate you anyway. I'm sorry to say you have lost many of us on your left, but you didn't seem too concerned with us over the last 2 years and I expect we will be blamed for the failure of the Democratic Party over the next few years, too. Maybe it is time to consider a REAL change in Washington. mark I just emailed a link to that article to the WH email contact, with a strong note.

more registered Democratic voters here in PA than there are registered republicans, and yet we let them take effective control of the entire state political system from school boards and county sheriffs through the Senate.
Why? Did the GOP's heavily funded bullshit media campaign telling us we had no chance to win actually influence so many people that they just did not bother? Are there SO MANY angry progressives in PA that wanted to "teach the Dems a lesson"? Are that many Democrats just too fucking lazy to vote or don't even give a shit? In 2008, I saw and interview with a GOP party guy who was amazed that so many Dems voted that year - he stated that Dems usually DO NOT VOTE, or if they do do not vote straight Democratic, thus giving the edge to the minority GOP...they KNOW THIS FROM LONG EXPERIENCE, AND THEY COUNT ON IT!!! AND THEY ARE USUALLY RIGHT!!! What is the answer? What is wrong with Democrats that they can't be bothered to look after their own interests? It is frustrating beyond words. mark

This is almost exactly the same margin that Sestak had over Specter in the primary!
Sadly, Onorato is now trailing Corbett for PA Governor, but only by a few hundred votes...it is too close to call. mark

big business...they want to remove all the agencies dealing with regulating business, the environment, federal inspection (such as food and safety - they HATE OSHA).They want the state governments to have the say in most of whet the federal government regulates now, such as civil rights, voting rights, union membership and workplace safety, child labor, women's rights, all gay rights and minority rights. This is because the state governments are much easier and cheaper to manipiulate, and a group of very rich RWers could in effect buy control of their state and run it as they wished with no one to say no.
They want feudalism, and would have been pretty happy if we had stayed British, provided they were the landed gentry... They want you and I to be peasants. mark

Second, this is really typical of religions over the centuries - but usually, they banned the books and burned the authors...and anyone else they didn't like.
Religions have been mean, nasty and evil forces over most of their history - it is only over the last 3 centuries or so that they haven't been killing each other as general policy.Don't let them fool you with their relatively recent relatively good behavior. mark

during the Clinton administration...They started so many "investigations" and rumors and smears that little was really accomplished, and none of the good done in those years came from the GOP side. This IS GOP politics as usual - lies, smears, obstruction and bring down the Democrats at any cost. They have NO real ideas for the good of the American people - other than the rich - and have no thought to improving life for anyone by their friends.
The lies we are seeing now in the campaign are exactly what we can expect if the GOP takse power in congress - they will spend all their energy "investigating" the Democrats and trying to undo everything this administration has managed to get done. They are after POWER for its own sake and will do NOTHING positive for the country if they win. mark

a moderate liberal, 1980's style. I HAVE seen programs in which he was really angry at politicians who forget they work for the American people and not for themselves.
Having said that, he seems FASCINATED by all politicians - he loves them, loves the games and the circus and the nonsense and all their fake "dignity". He loves the show business of politics to the point of losing sight of the PEOPLE whose lives are affected by these shameless clowns in high office. He is as divorced from reality as those who think Palin was sent by god to reclaimn America for christ, or whoever.. He is like a little kid watching the parade while the elephants shit all over main street. mark

The county where I live in South Eastern PA has well over 25 thousand people licensed to carry. The rate of violence here is down considerably, and most of what we see is drug/gang related - they have NO PROBLEM violating the law, and would not care if all guns were made illegal tomorrow - they violate the law for a living...one more law would present no difficulty.
FWIW, many of the civilians WITH legal guns use them to defnd themselves against the gang bangers, so disarming us will just give the bad guys more instant victims. As to the anti-gun organizations logic and goals, I have been trying to understand them for several decades, and I have no idea, but they are a business and make money and have political power, just like the "evil" NRA... employers/work situations. I believe healthcare should be a right, and we should just extend medicare for everyone and eliminate the healthcare business and ANY connection with employment. I also believe we should have some sort of retirement/disability guarantee unrelated to work.
We should find ways to eliminate the wage slavery from life in the US - we are still an incredibly rich nation, but the bulk of our efforts goes to the rich, the corporations and military rathere than to service of the people. Probably just a labor day fantasy, but there it is. mark

admit that GOP gains in the congress and in the governor's mansions and in other November elections would not in any way improve anything.
I am just saying the differences are pretty obvious - the GOP is so far to the right it would be a disaster for our country if they gained ANY MORE power. I WILL be voting for Democrats in November, and I already am supporting many of them with my limited finances, even some outside of my own state. I SUGGEST we put our traditional Democratic differences aside till after the coming election and just support and vote for Democrats in 2010. mark
