The FDA has released the guidelines for distribution of HORSE MEAT into the human food chain. Slaughtering horses for food in the US is illegal. It seems that horses are given antibiotics and other meds that are harmful to humans. But, horse meat is a common food source in other parts of the world including:Canada, Germany, Mexico and Italy. According to a 2004 article by Dan Chase of www.backwoodshome.com "horse is ...really quite good". "It is slightly sweeter than other meats,... is leaner than beef,.. more protein...and more iron. Of course, when releasing the information, the FDA assured us that the HORSES they were regulating would be those targeted to be put down anyway: the sick and those that are neglected or unwanted. Gee, that really makes us feel good. Those horses are sick, so just feed the meat to the masses. The idea may be repulsive to most americans, but in some countries like Mexico eating Horse is common, so the export of AMERICAN processed Horse meat would mean jobs etc....and money for american farmers. So, expect the next wave of new licensing of meat processing to include DOG, and CAT. The republican governors could go to town on this one. Just turn all those stray pets over to the nearest slaughter houses. Human consumption of dog, could lead to the dismantling of all those animal shelters around the country. The state could become the collector of MEAT for processing and make a profit by selling the critters by the pound. Yummy, the future of the US meat packing industry: HORSE guaranteed not to be Secretariat OR Black Beauty. I looked on canned goods in my cabinets, and the labeling doesn't specify country of origin, it only says "distributed by...". So are we being set up?? If it is legal to slaughter horses for food in Canada and Mexico, do we really know what is in the CANNED MEAT products that are being imported?? Are we really going to feel safe, looking at the current BILKING OF american consumers by corporate america, that the food we are feeding our families is safe? I remember reading Upton Sinclair's book " The Jungle" about the Chicago stockyards which exposed the abuses of animals by meat packers and the fact that saw dust and rat particles were common ingredients in sausage. Some govt regulation is necessary for the common good, we cannot let the repuglican regressives take us backwards.

As stated in an earlier post: FDR knew the people of the US and understood their dreams and he laid out the goals for democracy both then and now:

"For there is nothing mysterious about the foundations of a healthy and strong democracy. The basic things expected by our people of their political and economic systems are simple. They are:

Equality of opportunity for youth and for others.
Jobs for those who can work.
Security for those who need it.
The ending of special privilege for the few.
The preservation of civil liberties for all.
The enjoyment of the fruits of scientific progress in a wider and constantly rising standard of living.

These are the simple, basic things that must never be lost sight of in the turmoil and unbelievable complexity of our modern world. The inner and abiding strength of our economic and political systems is dependent upon the degree to which they fulfill these expectations."

That is really good news for the military and the country. The right wing has been so hateful these days attacking women's rights and equality, that it is good to know that some times the good guys win against some odds considered insurmountable.

THAT was the response of one of the idiots in a focus group watching the debate. I surely hope that is not the norm for the TBAGGERS. that kind of ignorance is really scary!

Hillary has been a very effective Secretary of State because she got out of WASHINGTON and away from the DC Bubble. The TBAGGERS want the dems out and they would have made her life more miserable. She was a known quantity in DC and with her husband's infidelity would never have let up. The TBAGGERS funded by the KOCHroaches and promoted by the Murdogs at FOX would have just had more fodder for the 24 hour news cycle.

I figure Hoffa was speaking a common language: from the WORKER thug to the Corporate Hustler's on Wall Street who did a hell of a job, mugging the American economy and the middle class. Hope Wall STREET got the message. And Rick Perry has been using this language all along. I thought the TBAGGERS only understand gangster, after all they have been doing the bidding of the banksters for 30 years.

But I sure would like Chris-snyder to come up with some songs we libs could sing with a simple clever beat. We really need to get it together for 2012. We need some rallying songs with a tune that drives people crazy. I wish I was musically talented.

Obama is already in charge of the implementation of this law. He stopped the torture and he is slowing the use and abuse of the law. He just saw that this bill, unlike so many with the Republican controlled house was actually going to pass without much fanfare. If he had taken on the Congress now, it would have distracted the people from the real cause of our nation's problems: the republican party/tbagger extremism. The repugs took a vote to KILL MEDICARE/vouchering the program for future recipients. They are on the defensive, for the first time in 2 and 1/2 years and the people are listening. He has to let the repugs hang themselves. Changing the Patriot Act would have been a distraction and now is not the time to let the repugs off the hook on anything they are doing.
