should not have attempted to use intimidation and threat tactics on something that should have been chalked up to teenage shennanigans.

The person at the Youth in Government organization should not have placed the call to the principal--they should have known that an 18 yr old, who is old enough to vote, has a constitutionally protected right of free speech. Of all the people in this scenario, an organization that deals with government issues should be up on that.

The principal is certainly culpable, but there are others who are just as culpable as he is, namely, the two entities I mentioned above.

Jones-Sontag attempted to intimidate Emma Sullivan through the thinly veiled threat of impacting her college career before the girl even graduated high school by contacting a school agency with the purpose of punishing the girl for what she said. She attempted to sic school officials on Sullivan.

What this has done is expose blowsalot's office staff as a waste hole of taxpayer money, where they have nothing better to do with taxpayer money than to do name searches on Twitter to find out how they will intimidate criticism of the governor.

Let's extrapolate this further: let's say that the school district decided to side with blowsalot... let's say that the principal wrung an apology out of the girl by holding her final grades hostage. What was to stop Jones-Sontag--or anyone's office lackey--from going after the employer of a 40 yr old man, if he said something unflattering about the governor? Where does this line of intimidation and threat stop? This "say something not nice and we'll make you pay for it" strategy needs to be strangled in its crib. This is the pricise reason why our government's consitution says that the state cannot infringe upon a citizen's right to free speech. The governor is the head of his state--clearly, his staff doesn't understand that they aren't a private company... ...yet.

it just occurred to me that all of this stealing of property through false foreclosures, etc., is part of the plan the 1% is attempting to institute to change who has the right to vote in this country. There is a line of thinking I've heard expressed that states that only people who own property should have the right to vote... if the 1% is able to steal property away from their owners with the collusion of the courts, then in the end, the right to vote will be stolen from a lot of adults who currently have that right.

The banks really thought that they could get away with outright theft--thankfully, they are, instead, exposing their corruption by the hubris of not doing "due dilligence" when it comes time to enter into a court of law... in other words, (enter my rant here)they hired too many lawyers and MBA's with a less than 2.0 GPA who barely made it out of school and/or barely passed the bar and all of this bs that these banks are getting caught in exposes that.(/enter my rant here)

this is it. To recap:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Sarcasm and irreverence is not malice.

Brownback and his staff owe this young lady an apology. Sure, writing something on Twitter isn't passing a note around in class. It would appear that there are some people apparently being paid by taxpayer money spend a lot of time doing name searches on their boss to see what has been said about them. Social media lends itself to expression of free speech and public figures need to get used to the fact that not everyone likes them, yet everyone has a right to express their opinion, even if it's about them. Here is where I draw the line in this:

Brownback’s spokeswoman, Sherriene Jones-Sontag contacted the Youth in Government program and complained. Her gripe was passed along to the school principal, who reamed out Sullivan and told her to write a letter of apology.

As Phil Cardera, a responder on this site, ably stated: What you fail to recognize is the element of intimidation that followed. Contacting the principal carried the obvious threat that this girl’s school record and chances for college might be impacted — and Brownback’s people know that. Forcing an apology — and let’s be serious, with his funding policies, schools feel threatened — is WAY out of line.

Part of the First Amendment is the right to be free from the government punishing or intimidating a citizen for his or her speech. That is why you are free to criticize any government official without fear that The Star will find itself surrounded by stormtroopers — or your advertisers visited by the Governor’s folks hinting about raising their taxes or auditing their books.

Yeah, a rude Congressman heckled Obama. But, the IRS did not audit him the next day in retaliation. You would be appalled — rightly — if that had happened.

But, that IS what happened here, make no mistake.

It's the intimidation tactics--the revenge scenario--that is the problem here, not an 18 yr old adult expressing her opinion to her friends.

the idiot spraying pepper spray in another wal mart and then someone being shot during a botched robbery at yet another wal mart, I think that the time has come for wal mart to be avoided by reasonable people who have principles. I mean, one can go buy that same video game online from the comfort of their own home--anyone can buy what they need from home and have it delivered. Better still--patronize locally owned stores.

However, the problem is that the people who will convince themselves it's brilliant policy to go stand outside a walmart in the middle of the night to risk being trampled and assaulted for something that their kid will lose interest in 3 days after xmas are the very same people who do not and will not get what OWS is all about; that they, too, are part of the 99%; but like the 20 yr old idiot who was interviewed at the store where the shoppers were pepper sprayed said, they "don't care--they're there to get a TV". They are there to exercise their constitutional right to consume on an obscene scale, because that's what xmas is about to them. If they had any god damned sense whatsoever, they would have stayed home today to send a message to wal mart and other mega stores that they need to rely on the 1% to pull their asses through this retail hell of the next 4 weeks and not on the 99%, who do not have the disposable income to help those mega stores square their balance sheets.

That'll never happen because many of the 99% don't get that they actually are the 99%... that's something those godless, dirty hippies are, not them. They've got their barely above minimum wage job; fux noose tells them they have a right to spend their money on cheap ass Chinese bullshit and force the cashier to tell them "merry xmas" or else they'll have a tantrum right there in the store.

I am so sick of xmas and I still have a month to go til it's over.

to give up freedoms and liberty for security. This is where that road led. They didn't think that the police here would do this to unarmed, peaceful protesters--they thought they would do this to those brown skinned people with funny names who pray to the east.

This is what happens when you allow yourself to get hoodwinked into thinking that giving up your constitutional rights means that you will be safe, because the thugs who will beat your ass are those who are sworn to serve and protect you.

And the "you" in this are the legion of fox news watching nimrods out there during the past 12 years who saw no problem with the erosion of everyone's civil liberties and freedoms in exchange for a nanny state where the Constitution has been usurped by the protecters and servers of the 1%.

that not a one of them who booed ever served a god damn day in the military or ever put their life on the line for their country in any capacity, or for anyone, not even themselves.

A bunch of doughy-bodied, ain't-never-served-a-day-in-their-miserable-life imps.

the fact that none of the candidates up there took a stand against that IN THE MOMENT tells me that they are not fit to be commander-in-chief. They ALL failed when leadership should have been displayed in that moment. That is why none of them are fit to be president.

And santorum waiting until the next day, from the safety of being in another state and half a day passing, to condemn it shows that he, too, is a coward; he is not a leader and he is not fit to occupy the office of commander-in-chief. None of them are. They are afraid of the mobs they've created with their bullshit over the past 3 1/2 years. They are afraid of lush limpballs and fux noose. The last thing this country needs is a pansy assed coward who has inhaled too much hairspray and on the high of those fumes, goes out a talks all shit about how tough they are. Tough would have been to shut that shit down in the moment. They are booing a US Military person who is laying his life on the line each and every day to assure that those assholes in the audience have the freedom to boo, which is a damn site more than what anyone booing has ever or will ever do in their lives.

I'm just stunned that these morons on that stage possess the staggering amounts of cowardice that it took to keep them riveted to their podiums with their lips sealed shut. This is how they will esteem the US Military when they become its commander-in-chief and quite frankly, IMO none of them deserve the obedience of any soldier should they make it to that office.

who would have celebrated her 10th birthday yesterday. Instead, Jaren Lee Loughner shot her dead as well as injured Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, in addition to many more wounded and dead, in Arizona last January.

I wanted to remember her.

(edited to add the others impacted by loughner).

or, if you can't understand that:

non des relations sexuelles consensuelles EST sexe sans l'autorisation ou le consentement de la femme et que, monsieur, c'est le viol.

I'm so saddened and am crying over this picture. I want so badly to hold her in my arms while she grieves for her poor, dear mother.

I thank God I still have a heart and that I can still feel; that I can empathize with those who've lost so much.

I thank God I feel powerless to be able to do anything to help restore those good people to where they were 9 days ago--because that means that I am human; it means that my spirit and soul are gentle and bright; it means that I daily, hourly, send positive energy to those poor beleaguered people in my vain hope that it will reach them and in some small way comfort them as they try to make sense.

I don't want to see ANYBODY have to deal with such monumental destruction and I will never carry the kind of hatred in my heart as limpfuck and his tea booger myrmidons do towards people who have done nothing to me or have tried to harm me in any way.

I'm not about to let her skate away from taking some responsibility for "Obama is pallin' around with terrists", or "real americans like you and me" or "don't retreat: reload!". Her whole shtick is division. She's steeped in it. She and her husband belonged to the Alaskan Separatists movement, so she knows a thing or two about driving wedges and dividing people. Nothing about her speaks to unity and ALL of us Americans having equal worth: only white xtians conservatives have lives of worth to her; and those who think like her are so far up in her ass they won't see daylight for another 45 years.

She had a once in a lifetime opportunity to own her rancid behavior and apologize for her part in it, but she chose to do what she can only do: whine and make it all about her being a victim. THE WOMAN IS DANCING ON THE GRAVE OF A 9 YR OLD CHILD FOR ATTENTION SHE DOESN'T DESERVE.

No, She is quite responsible for her rhetoric, for hiring the people who write her speeches for her, for reading the speeches written by said writer and for ok-ing those gun-sight targets on the map on HER website. If she is that clueless as to what the people she's hired to work for her are doing, then how can she be trusted when "that call comes in the middle of the night to the POTUS"?

Wish I could recommend your reply.

I had been thinking just that when I saw it this morning. This could be her opportunity to seize the moment and really put her candidacy on its first step towards 1600 Pennsylvania Ave N.W.

She could have totally broken from the old boys' club and said "you know what? You're right. I've said some pretty wicked things to blah blah blah my strong beliefs in blah blah what's right for America blah blah blah :sigh, cock head to side: That was wrong of me and I apologize for the tack I've taken. This moment isn't about me or what I think. It's about Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and her family; it's about little Christina Taylor Green and her family; Judge John Roll, Gabe Zimmerman, Dorwin Stoddard, Dorthy Murray, Phyllis Scheck and their families. Continue to pray for all of them. Thank you."

Oh. My. God. You might as well have thrown out the constitution and get a crown for her because that would have stopped all the presses. That kind of public "mea culpa" would have been like wearing a haircloth shirt and cilice for the media. But what did she do? She rose as high as only she could and made it about denial, discount and worst of all--her false victim-hood.

She talks shit because that's all she knows. She's not intellectually curious and it's amplified every time she opens her mouth because there goes her foot right into it.

Heart has a song on their latest CD "Red Velvet Car" called "There You Go Again..." I swear, it reminds me of spalin.

Despite the whole, ugly, truth-baring spectacular that laura schlessinger put on display regarding her automatic, id-driven mindset, there was something so profound regarding marriage which she chose to dismiss, considering her particular political bent, the fact that she supposedly gives "relationship advice" and how these days with the blessed defeat of Prop 8, the topic of "the sanctity of marriage" is oooh, so important for the "fabric" of our nation.

***THAT*** is the issue here, "dr" bitch.

***THAT*** is what destroys marriages and families, missy. Not gay marriage. Not interracial marriage.

He swore that he would love, honor, cherish and remain faithful until death to this woman. The fact that she is a black woman has nothing to do with the degree of loving, honoring, cherishing and remaining faithful until death that he swore to God that she is due by her legal station as his wife.

The fact that his family and friends feel so free as to walk into THEIR home and insult HIS wife just because she's black and believe that she is just supposed to take it is incredulous on its face. Just because her husband withers when it is his place to stand up and protect her honor is does not negate this one truth, which is the bedrock of all civilization, or so the opponents of Gay Marriage claim.

Only people who are accustomed to having someone walk into their home and call their wife a whore and a slut in front of her children and do nothing about it would, without filter of action, do such a base, thuggish thing to someone else's wife.

The fact of the matter is this man is deliberately, willfully and of his own volition, doing damage to his marriage by allowing "no man", meaning friends and family, to put his marriage asunder. On that tip, this caller was completely in the right and above reproach.

"dr." laura schlessinger has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that she has no business giving any kind of relationship advice to anyone if she can miss so profound a problem that reaches well beyond the caller's situation, but to marriages all across the country--a husband's blatant disrespect for his wife and a failure of upholding ALL of his marriage vows.

The only thing her small mind can accomplish is to latch on to the base-low hook of race and letting her true feelings about interracial marriage off the leash. Now we know and can proceed accordingly.
