FreezeCrowd and the US Chamber of Commerce
The US Chamber of Commerce, America's big business lobby, is holding an internet video contest called "I Am Free Enterprise." The Chamber is offering serious money—"$100,000 in cash prizes for the most innovative, creative, compelling story!"—but the entry period has passed, so you can't join the competition. You can, however, gaze upon the entries with delight and childlike wonder. Perhaps the ...
Achievements of Liberalism in the U.S.
By Shoq, on September 25, 2009, at 4:28 am
All or most were strenuously resisted by conservatives and many Republicans.

It wasn't Ike's idea. It was a liberal initiative begun in the '30s. Ike was a liberal.

Jonathan Chait: The Conservative Misinformation Feedback Loop, Cont'd
A few weeks ago, I wrote a post entitled "The Doc Fox Myth And The Right's Misinformation Feedback Loop." I used the example of a medium-sized claim that's demonstrably false, but has recirculated endlessly among conservatives, most prominently rising star Paul Ryan. The false claim is that the Affordable Care Act uses mythical savings from the "doc fix" in order to offset th...
From Steve Benen:
WHAT USED TO BE A BIPARTISAN GOAL.... Every time President Obama's goal of reducing -- and eventually, eliminating -- nuclear weapons comes to the fore, some on the right see grounds for mockery.
A year ago, for example, MSNBC's Joe Scarborough, with a child-like tone, equated eliminating nuclear arsenals with missiles that "can shoot dandelions," and altering the one-dollar bill to encourage Americans to "turn their frowns upside down." Yesterday, Rudy Giuliani followed suit...
Interesting camapaign commercial from 1968 called "Law and Order Democrat." Prescient, I think. One of the most disturbing things to me is how high our incarceration rate has become while at the same time the gap between rich and poor has led us into another Gilded Age.

Loud and Clear
So E Pluribus Unum thinks more African Americans are not Republicans because we don’t listen to them. He suggests to us,
“how about listening? How about listening to what Republicans have to say, instead of what the Democrats say we say? How about listening to what we have to say before booing us out of the building?”
I’d like to argue that we hear very well what you’re saying. T...

About The Real Origin of Those Tea Parties?
One of the things I’ve been meaning to write about ever since the explosion onto the national political scene of the “tea parties” (Dawn of the Teabaggers, I sometimes refer to it) is the nature of the actual, original Boston Tea Party. As you might expect, the teabaggers of today have the spirit of the the original nearly completely wrong, just like they’ve mistaken the spirit or intent of just about everything from fascism to some of their own foun...
There are quite a few good people to follow on twitter besides elected officials or well known bloggers and pundits. I will post a few of my favorite ones, very funny and informative people. I am hoping others do as well so we can have a good list of political twits to follow. As well as other DUers etc.
While not technically a political guy and obviously a very famous person, Roger Ebert is fantastic:

I think twitter is an interesting medium to write stories in. I saw Roger Avary, cowriter of Pulp Fiction, wrote a few interesting stories - some while he was in prison - so I decided to try it out myself.
I'll try to update it at least once a day.

Sherman is going to appear with Navajo poet Sherwin Bitsui this April in Seattle. Awesome. On a personal note and for those who don't know, Sherwin Bitsui is one of my best friends, a great poet worth checking out.
SHERWIN BITSUI & SHERMAN ALEXIE
Start: Tue, 04/27/2010 - 7:00pm
Co-presented with COPPER CANYON PRESS. A very special night is at hand as two amazing poets, one new to Elliott Bay audiences, and the other, familiar but always, in the vital sense, new, give this reading of their w...
Spokane/Coeur d'Alene Indian author Sherman Alexie wins the Pen/Faulkner award.
::::::::
To quote, VP Joe Biden, this is a big F****g deal! This is a great honor not only for Sherman Alexie orIndian writers, but for all Indians. Sherman writes about Indians, for Indians and from an Indian point of view, a master storyteller who weaves pain and humor through his work so skillfully that you can't tell if those tears in your eyes are from laughing or crying.

Can the 'Bush Lied' Deniers Handle the Truth?
Bring it on.
Conservative apologists for the George W. Bush crew are swinging hard these days to defend their man -- and themselves -- from the charge that W. and his gang misled the nation into war. They must worry that they are going to end up on the wrong side of history. After all, a 2008 Gallup poll found...
My friend, the Navajo poet, Sherwin Bitsui was on the Joe Milford Poetry Show last night. Sherwin is the author of "Shapeshift" and "Flood Song." "Flood Song" came out a few months ago and was featured in an issue of Poets & Writers Magazine. It's an excellent interview, well worth checking out. -Bill

Harry Gives ‘Em Hell
Wow. Harry Reid’s letter to Mitch McConnell.
As you know, the vast majority of bills developed through reconciliation were passed by Republican Congresses and signed into law by Republican Presidents – including President Bush’s massive, budget-busting tax breaks for multi-millionaires. Given this history, one might conclude that Republicans believe a majority vote is sufficient to increase the deficit and benefit the super-rich, but not to reduce the deficit and benefit ...

It’s All About The Ronalds

see where Representative Patrick McHenry, Republican of North Carolina (very patriotic name, guy: Patrick Henry + Fort McHenry), wants to bounce Ulysses S. Grant off the fifty-dollar bill and replace him with Ronald Reagan.
Here’s a better idea.
The largest bill in circulation now is the C-note, but, for a couple of weeks at the height of the Great Depression (December 18, 1934-January 9, 1935), ...
