Cooley Hurd Afterward - Archives
There a paperclip, or a few pennies laying on the barren floor. The walls sport their original paint only in small squares, where pictures once hung. The place still smells like "us", even though everything we are has been moved into the new house.
I see the ghosts of DUers long since gone saying one last goodbye as I turn off the lights and close the door on DU2. I hope the new place has good water pressure. ![]()

Hi Everyone. Cooley here. Some might remember me, most probably don't. Well, I've decided, in DU2's final hours, to come back under my original moniker after a 3 year exile.
During that time, I underwent a name change - Dennis Donovan - and silently retired CH. And Dennis has been a pain in the ass ever since. ![]() I didn't do this for any reason other than a personal one that has since faded in relevance. So, time to get back to being Cooley. Mods, you can nuke Dennis if you want. He was a fine vessel and served me well. On to DU3! ![]()

MICHAEL GORMLEY AP News May 02, 2008 19:17 EST Gov. David Paterson said Friday that he revealed his past marital affairs once he took office in part because he had heard that a rogue group of state police was investigating politicians. Paterson said that he had no proof, but that "over 10" lawmakers from both parties statewide told him about traffic stops and leaks by police to news organizations about brushes with the law. "I don't know that that's actually the case. These are things that are said to me," the Democrat told reporters after his initial comments on a radio show earlier in the day. "That was also on my mind when I made my own personal revelations," Paterson told WFAN-AM sports radio in Manhattan. "There was obviously an element in the police force and it wasn't Republican or Democrat, it was just out-of-control people who had power that were clearly monitoring a lot of the elected officials, and I was kind of afraid of leaks of inaccurate information about something, and that was another thing that pushed me to speak." and... But on Friday, Paterson said he also knew about the supposed rogue troopers. Paterson has requested an investigation by Attorney General Andrew Cuomo on whether state police were keeping tabs on elected officials. "He found enough unusual circumstances to look into it," Paterson said. State police spokesman Lt. Glenn Miner said Friday state police would cooperate fully.

"...that we're out of time, probably half of them are your people..."
Tony Snow: "Sorry 'bout that." Um, why are WH people on Soledad's earpiece (presumably in the director's booth)? Operation Mockingbird, v 2.0? I TiVo'd it to confirm what I heard - I'll try to post it later. That was a very REMARKABLE exchange! I have to give props to Soledad, at least she was pretty tough on Snow.

Fri Nov 10th 2006, 04:11 PM ...is that there is no single face. The face of DU is like the face of God - it's undefinable.
Marriage and heterosexuality are only two facets of relationships in general. Human beings, by nature, are pack mammals. Relationships between mammals should have no definition. Freedom of thought should always be respected and protected, as long as it doesn't turn into something that infringes on the rights of others. Abortion is a personal choice that should never be legislated by anyone. The news media, by definition, NEEDS to be liberal - it's the very definition of a free and investigative press. Mr Scorpio, I value your input - you are a voice, and a mind and a spirit. You and I are America. I thank you, my friend, for your existence.

Sat Oct 14th 2006, 07:34 AM ![]() NY-20: CQ: Sweeney Race Now A Toss-Up By Greg Sargent This one surprises us a bit, because the last couple of polls showed sizeable leads for GOP Rep John Sweeney, but CQ has now downgraded its rating of the race between Sweeney and Dem Kirsten Gillibrand from "Leans Republican" to "Toss up": Gillibrand, an attorney and first-time candidate for public office, on Tuesday sent an open letter to Sweeney requesting he release information regarding police incidents earlier in his career, including an arrest for driving while intoxicated... It was another step in Gillibrand’s efforts to tie Sweeney to the “culture of corruption” tag with which Democrats have been trying to bedevil Republicans throughout the 2006 campaign. In fact, Gillibrand was an early entry, issuing accusations as early as last January that Sweeney was joining lobbyists on ski trips while ignoring the district’s problems. <snip> ![]() Congressman Drinky-Drunk's in trouble!!!!

Sat May 06th 2006, 09:24 AM ...at the same time?
![]() http://www.ctrl.org/boodleboys/qclub.html ![]() Well, now, isn't that quaint, both of the Bush administration's top-guns in the intelligence field, CIA-Director Porter Goss and the new Intelligence Czar John Negroponte are both members of the Fence Club aka Psi Upsilon at Yale. Psi Upsilon was formed as a pact between seven students at Union College in 1833:"We, the undersigned, having determined to form a secret society, and having some conversation on the subject, do now and hereby pledge our sacred honors that we will keep all that has been done and said a most profound secret'' Negroponte and Goss, both 1960 Yale graduates, are shown here in a photo from the Fraternity section of the 1960 Yale Banner, the university yearbook. Yale's Psi Upsilon chapter, the second oldest </snip> Of course, it probably means nothing... ![]() More weirdness at link.
