From the Dept. of Say What? Posted 3/30/03 Only sheer brilliance or a crystal ball could foretell the next terrorist attack, right? Nope, says the inventor of a computer program that predicted anthrax might be sent through the mail six months before it happened. Cyc (as in encyclopedia), a project that is now part of the Pentagon's research on sniffing out terrorist plots, comes up with scenarios that could help focus screening efforts. It works by applying common sense to an extensive knowl...

Digg it: (Link) To coincide with the 40th anniversary of the assassination of MLK, CNN released a documentary this year called Eyewitness to Murder, which is also the flagship episode of Soledad O'Brien's "Black in America" series. At the beginning of the episode, Soledad tells us that CNN will try to tell us the "full story" of the MLK assassination. Not even close. I picked four of the most egregious moments from the "documentary" to show how biased the presentation is; how CNN severely ch...

By Coleen Rowley and Ray McGovern - July 19, 2008 - consortiumnews.com One can assume that former Attorney General John Ashcroft didn’t mean it to be funny, but his testimony on Thursday before the House Judiciary Committee might strike one as hilarious, were it not for the issue at hand — torture. Ashcroft is the Attorney General who approved torture before he disapproved it, but committee members spared him accusations of flip-flopping. He explained that he initially blessed t...

By Ray McGovern May 19, 2008 Dear Admiral Fallon, I have not been able to find out how to reach you directly, so I drafted this letter in the hope it will be brought to your attention. This is my take on the Palfrey situation. I want to say that I do indeed think it's "possible" that this was a legitimate suicide. That said, there has been a long string of really un-normal suicides over the past 10 or so years that cannot simply be ignored, with a big fat uptick in the post-9/11 universe. This is why so many people are lifting an eyebrow over this one. Is this the USA or the USSR? What the hell is going on here? Listen carefully to what Palfrey says in the audio, it seems v...

In a long-overdue exposé on the so-called "war on terror" on the homefront, RS writer Guy Lawson exposes the FBI, JTTFs, and CIA covert operatives as being overly eager to hype the threat of "homegrown terrorism" in the United States. In most cases that he examines, Federal agents are actually the most enthusiastic "terrorists" in suspected terror cells, supplying inspiration, physical means, and ideas that make potential plots even remotely plausible. When plots are completely outside the means...

opens with the silhouette of a mujahidin firing a shoulder-mounted surface-to-air missile at the movie audience. Unfortunately for the target audience, the rocket being fired at them is tipped with "Grade A" U.S. Government-Approved Propaganda. Admittedly, the mujahidin did use SAMs in their battles against the Soviet army, so the film-makers did get that right. Charlie Wilson is portrayed as a womanizer and a boozehound, and they got that right, too. Ultimately, however, the film is based on...

by , January 9, 2008 The Pentagon's version of the encounter in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday morning, involving U.S. Navy warships and Iranian Revolutionary Guard patrol boats is, at the very least highly suspicious. On Tuesday, the Navy released video footage and an audiotape to back its claims that the Iranian boats acted in a threatening and provocative manner, but neither the video nor the audio are particularly convincing as proof that Iran had hostile intentions. The video, which show...
