Dear Elected Representative of ME,

Americans have no doubt been lulled and tricked into trusting our forefathers and our government so much, that they just can’t fathom or believe that America’s dreams and spirit have been utterly and completely stolen from them. Other than the fact that this once great country is supposed to be joyfully celebrating it’s 231st birthday, I have no idea what spurs me to write this letter. It’s been quite awhile now, since I gave up on the idea of saving this republic. It’s too late. It’s in ashes. It’s been destroyed beyond recognition. We are now beyond the precipice. I never knew I was living among so many people who hated what America was. Nor did I ever imagine that a ‘party’ of people would so eagerly and casually see us bitterly divided. I never dreamed that a vote, for who I believed was the best man for the job, would render me without any representation at all. I feel that because I didn’t vote for Mr. Bush, I somehow didn’t deserve any voice. I happen to live in Arizona, where you are supposed to be my voice, no matter what party I belong to. I have never liked the idea of being pigeonholed into any party’s ideals, so I’ve been registered as an Independent for 35 years. But, first and foremost, I’m an AMERICAN!! And now, I’m a very despondent, depressed, and despairing American. Those goose bumps and the pride I used to feel on the 4th of July, have been made a mockery of. The patriotism my WW2 veteran Dad instilled in me has been crushed. I wept most of the day this last Memorial Day. Maybe America never was what I thought it to be. Otherwise, how could it have been radically changed and lost, so quickly?

Please, help me to understand, how in the world the Republican party can walk in such lockstep with each other, no matter what the issue. Isn’t our society too complex and diverse for all of you to feel exactly the same on every conceivable subject? When they say the Democrats are in disarray, I disagree. I don’t think independent voices within the party is a bad thing at all. It shows that people at least have their own brains and ideas that are given consideration within a given debate. How I long for any politician to just say, and vote, what they really feel in their hearts, no matter what their ‘party’ tells them to say, and no matter what some block of voters might do. I just can’t believe ANY American would stand behind someone like Rush Limbaugh who continuously fans the fires of hate and prejudice in our country. I heard him say that Barack Obama was only raising the money he is, because liberals are feeling GUILTY. I just get sick to my stomach when I hear these things. These pundits speak for your party! Why do you allow it? Why is it OK that this kind of talk almost completely dominates the talk radio airwaves???? How can this kind of talk not offend the American in you???

After becoming desensitized by layer after layer of outrage wrought by this administration’s actions, I am hopeless about our future. My own, my children’s, and our country’s future as a whole. When the president took an oath to execute the Constitution, he must have thought that meant ‘execute’, as in Carla Faye Tucker. I don’t want to live here anymore. I don’t want to tell foreigners that I’m American. I don’t want to face the consequences of the neoconservatives’s take-over of America. I keep my cyanide pills
handy for the day the sky falls. Give me liberty or give me death. I now understand that declaration deep in my soul. Too dramatic for you? Then try stepping off your beltway planet, lose your job, your health insurance, your savings, and your faith in our country because of your own government’s policies. Maybe THEN you’ll realize how fierce patriotism can turn into cynicism, pain, and grief, with no cause for celebration on this, the 4th of July 2007. It should more aptly be called the sixth birthday of the New (fascist) America. In my heart, it’s GOODBYE 4th of July. From now on it will only be a painful yearly reminder of loss, like the grief of losing a cherished loved one.

I'm just about ready to commit myself! I must really be the crazy one. We've been living in this surreal world for 6 years now, somewhere between the twilight zone and the outer limits. The only thing missing is the Rod Sterling narrative. I've never seen such corruption blatantly displayed and accepted by so many. The 'religious right' cheering on the sidelines is even MORE bazaar! The congress looks like a bunch of blithering idiots with their non-binding this and that, and all their wimped out investigations. They've barely lifted the lid and the crimes are spilling out all over the place. They see it, know it, talk about it, but NOTHING RESULTS in their discoveries. They've shamed the country no less than Bush. They are all criminal co-conspirators as far as I can see. What would it take for them to blow up, and end this horrible nightmare? They are even ignoring the state's impeachment resolutions, not to mention being deaf to 73% of Americans.

What person in their right mind would stand behind Gonzo??????? Bush is not the only one who is not in his right mind. Only 5 Republicans are telling him to get out????? Thorough, intense, psychological testing should be mandatory for any person who portends to be qualified for the presidency!!!!! This would have weeded Dubya out immediately, his dysfunctions are so severe. It's flat out astounding how so many have sold their souls to stand behind this madness! They dilly dally around while the country stands at the precipice. Time to ask for some prozac, or they will succeed in killing me by massive stroke. Just what they want! Another way of eliminating the middle class!!

What twisted political theory is she being ruled by? How else can we begin to heal and have the world even start to respect us again, if we turn the other cheek to ACCOUNTABILITY????? Talk about forgetting? This woman is kicking me in the gut and making me feel WORSE than before the election! At least then, I had some hope. What is this woman THINKING? Just let them walk away with their bags of money, while we try to clean up the carnage left behind by their reign? She's as OUT OF TOUCH as the rest of them! What did she think we went to the polls for? It was the last hope of our smothered little voices in the tsunami of insanity, even when we feared our vote may be stolen yet again. If we don't show the world we're sorry, that we were wrong, then we'll be doomed to be hated for generations to come! I have copied about 12 articles calling for hearings, indictments, and impeachment and mailing them to Ms. Pelosi. I'll print this 'rant' too, and put it on top of the pile.

Also, don't forget that the cold hearted freaks (McCain included) voted down an amendment to the brutal bankruptcy bill, that would have exempted the troops from the harsh new law. HOW do they sleep at night??

PS.......Nance, for some reason I couldn't see your column last week. Your page (on my favorites) was blank, and I couldn't link from the main DU page either. Was it me or the site? When things don't work right, I'm always suspicious that "THEY" are hacking our internet!

That is all we want them to know. No, I don't expect them to feel our pain, as it could NEVER compare to theirs. We just want them to know WE FEEL THEIRS! Yes, some have internet and when they get their 5 minutes to use it, they are blogging about needing help and which neighborhoods are under siege. They sure aren't using it to shop online. Gee, you have me wondering if UPS delivers to Baghdad? I guess if they COULD hear of what WE want, they see our voices as too little too late anyway. When your formerly tolerable life is reduced to lost hope, despair, deep grief, and raw fear, you don't care anymore about who's right or wrong. Did you know they carry on their person their death certificates, already filled out, so someone will know which dead body is which? Yes, they DO see past the propaganda. That's why they want us OUT! Now that we've invaded a sovereign country preemptively, why would the rest of the countries not fear our future actions? Maybe they will 'shock and awe' US, invade and destroy America, so we won't ever do anything like this again. How will the world ever forgive us our trespasses, when we did not forgive those who trespassed against us?? All that war money could have secured our borders and bought us a hell of a lot of safety.

........they don't know how we mourn for them and ourselves. Since our MSM doesn't cover our peace marches, or our adamant dissent, or our stifled calls for impeachment, how COULD they know? They watched as Bush was re-(un)elected, they watched as FOXNEWS and others beat the war drums. They watched US, as we watched our leaders act with impunity, and did nothing to stop them. The Muslims, the Mexicans, and other oppressed people around the world put us to shame. When they are passionate about their plight, they show up in numbers way too big to ignore. Instead, the Iraqi's have watched while we shop at Neiman's, drive home in our Hummers, and plop down in front of our plasma big screens to watch Hannity and tune in the $20,000 stereo system to Rush Limbaugh. WE know this is NOT our true picture, but how would THEY know? If we don't search for truth online and on progressive radio, Americans are in the same boat.

From the first time I heard this bafoon, I couldn't BELIEVE CNN was so desperate to try to upsurp Faux NoNews. Now they need to create a show for an extreeeeeme lefty to be Fair and Balanced on the stupidity scale!

I MAY have seen it, but I must have been too numb to remember! It's PERFECT Nance! It should have been printed in every newspaper in the country. I remember the sick look on McCain's face when he emerged from the 'compromise' meeting. What could Bush have possible said to these men to convince them to sell their souls? Just how 'out of touch' can these people be???? What blows me away is the near absolute silence of the MSM, save Keith Olberman, when it was the saddest news our country has ever seen! The headline of every newspaper should have shouted "America's Constitution Assassinated"!!!!!!!! I'll print your letter and send it too. I'm copying every article calling for hearings, indictments, and impeachment, and sending to the Democratic leadership. Now, they're using the anthrax thing as a reason for us not to bother sending mail that 'won't be opened'. E-mail doesn't work either. Our voice to our 'representatives' is now limited to phone calls or personal office visits? Isn't THAT convienent?

Yep, nothings changed in the War Monger's plans. Hey Nance! Need a good rant from you about, or 'to', my state's disgusting Senator McCain, who thinks he's running for president!! He is another one who is losing his mind. I USED to sort of like him, but he's been dead meat in my book for some time now. But the worst slime came when he betrayed the constitution, and HIMSELF, when he caved to 'the WAD', on the MCA. He is despicable to me after that. Only YOUR eloquent words could describe how he is the epitome of everything we hate about politicians and want to be rid of! Then you could print a 'refresh' of that one in '08! Love every column you do!
