My Mom was a single mom who raised me and my brother. She worked nights as a nurse, went to law school during the day, and still found time to spend with us every single day. I was raised to be open minded and have compassion and empathy. Just a few examples: I wasn't brought up to see people by the color of their skin. I knew that people came in different shapes, sizes, and colors. And it wasn't until midway through grade school before I ever knew there was such a thing as being "gay." It wasn'...
5 Years ago today George W. Bush declared "Mission Accomplished" in Iraq. 3,925 American troops have died since he made that declaration and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis have been killed.
This video is a year old, so keep in mind while watching that unfortunately the death toll has increased since then.

NOT AT ALL! *sarcasm*
I'm an Obama supporter, but the sexism in the media towards Clinton has absolutely pissed me off to no end... and then people try to say that there hasn't been sexism towards her in the media.
Check out this video that has some clips of how sexist the media has been towards Clinton. Whether an Obama or Clinton supporter this should piss you off too.

I'm just another Obama girl fed up with sexism.

FALLOUT: Coming Home From the War in Iraq
A short film by Ava Lowrey about the war in Iraq and its effects on our returning troops. Pro-war or anti-war, we should all take the time to listen to what our returning troops have to say.

This a short(2 minute) film I've entered into the "Film Your Issue" contest. Please check it out and leave a comment. This is also a taste of what is to come with the full length documentary I'm working on. ;)
How ashamed does this make you? Only 28 percent of Americans know that nearly 4,000 U.S. troops have been killed according to an opinion survey released yesterday. The Pew Research Center for the People and the Press survey found that public awareness of developments in the Iraq war has dropped since last summer, as the news media have paid less attention to the conflict. Earlier surveys showed that about half of those asked about the death tally responded correctly. Do we have our priorities mi...
First of all let me say that this post was spurred by something I recently read about Clinton supposedly being racist and running racist ads:

Something has been bothering me for weeks, especially over the past few days with the recent Clinton wins on Tuesday and the race getting even tighter(as if that were possible). First of all, although I would be happy with either candidate as a President, I am an Obama supporter. I've had two of his bumperstickers on the back of my vehicle for week...
I know it took forever, but I had forgotten to put it up until I came across the footage the other day. I had two hours of footage but edited it down to less than 5 mins of clips. crappy editing i know but it was done quickly.. the main reason that i threw this together was so i can show it to colleges.. because i hear it could help me since i want to double major with political science. ;)

Too often we as young people are talked down to and criticized for our lack of concern about the state of the world today and our lack of involvement in current events and politics. However, I personally know that there are many involved and concerned young people out there, myself included.
What I'm asking you to do is show that you care. Show that you are concerned. Show that you have an opinion and a political viewpo...

Will John Edwards be throwing his support behind Hillary Clinton's Presidential campaign soon? Clinton will be doing a "poverty tour" ahead of the Ohio Primary. Sound familiar?
Well it should since John Edwards spent his campaign touring the country talking about the issue of poverty. Is this a sign that Edwards may throw his endorsement behind Clinton, and at this point would his endorsement sway his supporters? Many people who were supporters of Edwards's campaign(myself included) have alrea...

Tomorrow voters from Louisiana, Washington, and Nebraska will be heading to the polls to place their votes in the Democratic Presidential Primary. On Sunday voters in Maine will head to the Democratic Primary caucus. The race between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama is still neck and neck and it is becoming more and more likely that Superdelegates will be the deciding factor in the election. This has many voters and people within the party upset. Donna Brazil recently said, "If 795 of my colleag...
This video is one of my earlier videos that I made about two years ago. It is a video of some of the hate mail I had received at the time. It was originally a flash video, but I've had people request I put it up on YouTube so I've converted it so that it can be posted here. Enjoy, but be warned there is adult language! ;)

x( how you might ask? just by watching a few of videos.
we've "come a long way baby" indeed ... i'll be damned if we ever go back. ;) it's sad when you realize that most of those videos were made 50 or less years ago. what's even sadder is the fact that our society, while it has greatly improved, still sets "gender roles" and usually with women that role is staying at home and being a good little wife/mother. at least now a-days most women get to choose whether or not to play the stay-at-hom...
2008 is my first time voting, and I'm excited to be involved in such an exciting and important election. I have been asked by many people who I am supporting for President and who I am endorsing as the creator of PeaceTakesCourage.com. I was a supporter of John Edwards in 2004 and I am a supporter again in 2008. Why? While I could go on for hours about why John Edwards is the candidate I support, I can easily sum it up in 5 reasons.
1. I am a 17 year old who will be voting for the first time in...

Christmas time in Iraq isn't Christmas at all. Violence continues and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis are mourning this Christmas, and thousands of American families will be missing a loved one this holiday season.
"What is Christmas? It is tenderness for the past, courage for the present, hope for the future. It is a fervent wish that every cup may overflow with blessings rich and eternal, and that every path may lead to peace." -- Agnes M. Pharo

Close to 4,000 U.S. troops have been killed in the war in Iraq and hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians have died as a result of the war. What for? This is the legacy of the War President - George W. Bush. On October 27th make it known that while this may be the legacy of George W. Bush it is not the legacy of the American people. Stand up and confront the war President. Stand up for peace!
Although I admire a powerful and strong woman, I'm not a huge fan of Hillary Clinton's politics or her strategy for winning the White House. I made that clear a few days ago with a post about why I would have trouble voting for Hillary if she is the Democratic Nominee. Although I did say I would most likely "hold my nose" and vote for Hillary over the Republican Nominee(since a strong third party is virtually nonexistent in the U.S.), I've now come to say that if Hillary Clinton is the nominee I...

A few months ago I excitedly announced a new project I was starting to take on - a full length documentary about the war in Iraq and the troops who have witnessed it first hand. Thanks to those who agreed to be part of the documentary and those of you who helped in other ways I was able to film interviews with Iraq veterans and not only learn a lot about the Iraq war, but also get footage that I hope will help the public better understand the Iraq war and it's effects on our troops retu...
