Our health care sucks..and it is primarily due to the practices of Insurance Companies and Big Pharma. Health care should NOT BE AN INDUSTRY!!! It should be a service of the govt and a right of every citizen. Why the hell do the very people who suffer the most feel that they are doing the right thing to fight reform? The only ones who have a reason are those that are getting lots and lots of money from those in the health care INDUSTRY!!! Everyone else should be out in the street with pitchf...

As a Canadian citizen and longtime resident of California, I have been watching the health care debate with equal parts fascination and horror. That much information transmitted regarding Canadian health care is incorrect is irksome, to say the least. Some elucidation on the issue might help, preventing, one hopes, people getting their britches in a bunch over something about which they know nothing. To begin, Canadians –– at least the Canadians I know –– do not shout from their rooftops the ...

He called the Fundamentalists the "Village Idiot" of this country and there is no way to deal with them. We have to go past them. A village does not reorganize to suit the needs of the village idiot... WOW!!! He is pissed!!!

2009 · President Obama has scheduled a town hall meeting to promote his health care overhaul plan this week. He's been on the stump, pushing his plan in different forums: in press conferences, town hall meetings and discussions with several governors. But will he be able to achieve health care for all? Robert Reich says it will be difficult, but with the right strategy, Obama can prevail. Reich, former Labor Secretary and former advisor to Obama, explains how he thinks the president can remake ...

Well said, and well felt. I agree with all you said. Any reminder of our mortality is bound to affect us :yourock: :fistbump: :pals:  :loveya: :hi:  :applause: :applause: :applause: :applause: :applause: :applause: We should all remember John Donne's Meditation XVII [font size = +1} "All mankind is of one author, and is one volume; when one man dies, one chapter is not torn out of the book, but translated into a better language; and every chapter must be so translated...As th...

than Americans did after the stolen elections of 2000 and 2004 in the USA? There were no rioting crowds of hundreds of thousands of people in the streets after either of those election farces. It seems that when it comes to the actual down and dirty part of retaining our rights, the Iranians, and even some of the countries of the former Soviet Union are braver and more willing to risk discomfort, and even life and limb than the comfortable, complacent Americans. One picture of the amazing crow...

After reading the full article, which is superb, check out the comments, as well. The vast majority are excellent. The 9-year-old girl had been raped by her father. She was 18 weeks pregnant. Carrying the baby to term, going through labor and delivery, would have ripped her small body apart. There was no doctor in her rural Southern town to provide her with an abortion. No area hospital would even consider taking her case. Susan Hill, the president of the National Women’s Health Foundation...

original at: (Link) (Image) Need to register to read it. Here is the location of an excerpt you do not need to register to read: (Link)/ <snip> Early that morning, a unit from the 109th National Guard Infantry dropped off their morning chow. With it came a holiday special–a video of Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ and a chaplain to sing the film’s praises, a gory cinematic sermon for an Easter at war. Humphrey ducked into the chow room to check it out. “It was the part where they...

have it..but I guess not all of them. Perhaps if one does not have the predisposition for empathy it cannot be taught to you. Born to be kind, study identifies empathy gene February 12, 2009 The ability to empathize with others is partially determined by genes, according to research on mice from UW-Madison and Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU). In the study, a highly social strain of mice learned to associate a sound played in a specific cage with something negative simply by hea...

I think it ranks right up there with Pastor Niemoller's words and those of Rudyard Kipling. I think it would not be inappropriate to define 'man' as used here to mean "A person of courage and principle..whether you actually are a man or a woman." IF If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you But make allowance for their doubting too, ...

We would all opt for fewer and fewer abortions, better sex education, contraception, even morning after pills. It is the fanatics who are against any sort of choice who tend to see this issue as black and white; good vs evil. These folks whose main concern is the life and soul of the "unborn child", are the same ones who refuse to provide them or their mother with pre-natal or post-natal health care. They are not at all concerned with the quality of the education these children get. They are ...

"Until he extends his circle of compassion to include all living things, man will not himself find peace." - Albert Schweitzer “The worst sin toward our fellow creatures is not to hate them, but to be indifferent to them: that’s the essence of inhumanity.” — George Bernard Shaw “I am in favor of animal rights as well as human rights. That is the way of a whole human being.” — Abraham Lincoln “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way i...

Malia Obama probably wasn’t sure if her Dad would make it home from work to watch her soccer game this past Friday night. He’s been pretty busy lately. But her Mom and her little sister would be there. The flow of the kids moving the ball down the field, under the lights of a chilly night in October. The families chatting on the sidelines. The starlight glow of downtown Chicago rising up from the north. Malia Obama at mid field shouts “Mom!” And the smile, grace, and presence of the wo...

To be proud of your ignorance is evil.... To denigrate intelligence is evil. The Neo-Con/Fundie campaign has worked very hard to bring out the worst in the worst. They manipulate the ignorant into thinking that being smart is bad...and they have found a very fertile audience. It is part of the 14 signs of Fascism... 11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts - Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and othe...
