Personally, I don't believe we should confirm another one of Bush's appointments - I don't care if it's for some low-level Federal judge in some obscure district.

At least that's what I came away with from reading this.

<snip>
"Everyone knows he's conservative and has come out strongly for the things that the pro-family movement stands for," Dobson said of Thompson. " I don't think he's a Christian; at least that's my impression," Dobson added, saying that such an impression would make it difficult for Thompson to connect with the Republican Party's conservative Christian base and win the GOP nomination.

Mark Corallo, a spokesman for Thompson, took issue with Dobson's characterization of the former Tennessee senator. "Thompson is indeed a Christian," he said. "He was baptized into the Church of Christ."

In a follow-up phone conversation, Focus on the Family spokesman Gary Schneeberger stood by Dobson's claim. He said that, while Dobson didn't believe Thompson to be a member of a non-Christian faith, Dobson nevertheless "has never known Thompson to be a committed Christian—someone who talks openly about his faith."

"We use that word—Christian—to refer to people who are evangelical Christians," Schneeberger added. "Dr. Dobson wasn't expressing a personal opinion about his reaction to a Thompson candidacy; he was trying to 'read the tea leaves' about such a possibility."

<snip>

Quite frankly, ANYONE that Dobson would endorse is somebody that I do not want anywhere near the reins of power.

They are PRISONERS. Whether we agree with Iran taking them or not, that's what they are. They are NOT hostages. They got caught up in a territorial dispute, and were taken prisoner. Plain & simple.

Gee, you'd almost think the M$M wanted to see a war with Iran. Heck, maybe they do - would give them something new to cover 24/7. I'm sure that FOX and CNN are already hard at work contacting the talking heads, preparing their Iran War logos, and dramatic music!

What the fuck do you think you're doing? Your generals are telling you that simply sending more troops to Iraq isn't the answer. The Iraq Study Group recommends disengaging. Why are you so goddamned hellbent on breaking the back of the military? We're already strained as it is, with many units now having served multiple terms in Iraq and Afghanistan! This has gone on LONGER than our involvement in WWII. At the same time, you're preparing for yet another war with Iran, building up your naval armada in the Persian Gulf.

Are you out of your fucking mind? Are you determined to do as much damage as you can before you leave office? Where are all these extra troops going to come from? Are you going to sign your precious daughters up for Iraq? Of course not, you're going to pull in more cannon fodder from the poor and working class, those who can't afford to send themselves to college. You're going to lure them with all sorts of incentives, promise them a high-tech military career, tell them that they can learn how to fly helicopters or fix computers - then you're going to shove an M-16 in their hands and kick their ass out into the desert.

Enough is enough, you fucking liar. I sincerely hope that the Democrats in Congress grow a pair of gonads and clamp the brakes on your ass.

I believe that we shouldn't spend more than we pull in. I believe that those who have been blessed the most financially should bear their fair share of our burden. I don't believe it's fiscally responsible to cut taxes at a time when we are spending more. I don't believe in runaway deficits. I don't believe in granting "fair trade" status that winds up hurting our own workers.

I believe in the sanctity of life. This is why I oppose the death penalty. This is also why I support stem cell research.

I believe in upholding the US Constitution. This is why I oppose warrantless wiretaps and eavesdropping. This is why I believe in the right of habeus corpus. I don't believe in locking up American citizens without giving them a fair trial. I also believe that we should uphold the Geneva Convention, which was ratified by the US Congress, in accordance with the Constitution.

I believe in protecting the family. This is why I support same-sex marriage. I believe the rampant divorce rate in this country is far more damaging to "social values" than allowing two men or women to marry each other. I believe it's far better to allow a same-sex couple to adopt children than it is to allow these children to grow up moving from foster home to foster home, never knowing any stability.

I believe in freedom of religion. This is why I oppose state-sponsored displays of Christian symbols, ie Ten Commandments or crosses. Just as I would oppose the display of the Koran or Wiccan symbols in a courtroom or classroom. I'm sorry, it is not a simple case of "majority rule".

Aren't these "conservative" values?
