depressing in JeffR's thread figure I would move this here.
I haven't even begun to think...
about pathways. I have been coming to terms with a nut shooting a school not very far from where I live. I am not far from the Amish school on White Oak Rd. though I live in MD, barely. I have spent a while now looking at this picture

wondering were these kids in that school? This picture was taken about 2 miles down the road from the school on a Sunday, most likely they were returning home after meeting at a farm for their services. We were behind them. There is a good chance they were there. I don't want to know for sure if they were.I used to tell people that if they wanted to see the Amish, Sunday evenings was the time. As long as they were willing to drive slow and know that almost nothing touristy was open. Was the little girl I used to see mow her front yard with an old fashion hand mower in her bare feet every Friday there? Or the kids that run around the place I buy my flowers from. I played hooky from the house Monday to go take pictures of mums at an Amish farm. I couldn't get to it because the state police had the roads blocked. I didn't know why. Thought there might of been a crash or fire and looked for smoke. I found out why later when I got home. It has been a pretty depressing week here so I threw myself into working on the house.

to the grocery store. And this is what I saw on the way there. Course it took me longer to get there than to shop and go through the register.

First a bluebird swooping around. Surprised I got stopped and the camera out fast enough to catch any of it.

The bluebird led me to the goose.

Which led to a pair of geese.

That did not like me being in their space so took off for a swim.

Then I looked up.

Finally got in the car again and headed toward town only to see this old church

Pulled in the parking lot for the first time ever. Been by the church a lot.

Only to realize they have horse parking too.

Going to have to go check on the geese more often, there were two pairs and one single. Will have to watch for goslings .

Not sure I have any juxtaposition but the pair of geese would be making connections. Wouldn't it? I am going on lack of sleep and starting to hear hammering in my dreams.

Edited to add, but I do have windows now. and can see what finished will look like.

Too late for architecture and would have had to gotten some sympathy votes from those that have been through renovations. This is where I will be for the foreseeable future.

Front of house just before starting to strip off siding.

Nook and entry before.

West side of house before.

Back of house on Day1.

Tearing out door, to replace with window…eventually.

Day 1-East side of house stripped. Getting new plywood where needed and Tyvek.

Day 2- new siding on east side of house, the easy side.

Day 2-rip out window and wall to replace on side of kitchen nook.

And all we wanted was to replace the windows and siding.

Day 3-east side of front naked.

Day 3-front of nook stripped, studded, framed out for new window, then getting covered because windows are now a week late. Might get here the 12th.

It is so dark in my nook and kitchen right now with no windows.

A small peek at the nightmare to be uncovered tomorrow.

Tomorrow they strip off the rest of the front, get everything right for new windows there and cover everything with plywood and Tyvek. No natural light on the north side of the house until my windows get here. Still fighting with them on when and now on price, if I have to wait as long as “van delivery” then I want the lower price.
Though have found that if you are stuck on hold for 15 minutes complaining to corporate they will send you a &75.00 gift card.

Since they haven't started stripping the siding off my house, but have me running around getting this and that, I went digging for architecturephotos. Now I need help deciding which one to use. Could also use help with names. On the siding, was hoping they might of exposed the post and beams with wood plugs instead of nails for a photo before the contest. Course not sure if they will expose them at all but plan on taking pics this time if they do.

A couple of warm days and the trees go from bare with barely a hint of buds starting to this.

Spring is on its way, though knowing the weather here we will freeze a few more times.

Also I shot in RAW with JPEG, which I rarely do and there is more of a difference than I thought. Really shows when taken at the same time and seen side by side. These are a cut out of actual ppi, untouched except for the cropping. putting on a white background and saving. Now I remember why I always shoot in RAW. BTW the wind was not being helpful.

of polecats and minks. The mink would of been iffy, the polecats looked like a sable ferret. I went looking but never thought of ermines.

polecats (had to post the pics I found since they are cute)

I can see where ferrets may have come from them, though guess they haven't decided for sure yet.
The late great Gizmo, since his coloring was closest to the polecat.

Ermine

They are cute little things and I would of wondered if it were a ferret if one had run by me.

Just don't know which to use if any. We just haven't had must of a fall this year. Something about no frost. So here is what I got Saturday.

Part of a very very big tree hiding in the woods at the top of a hill.

same tree as above but different times of the day.

A little tree.

Leaf

Snapshot of the very very big tree that made the big man look little. I never thought about needing a wide angle lens in the woods with no trail. Will have to go back with the wide angle.

Big tree again, still can't do it justice.

And special for F. Gordon a color infrared. (Combined an infrared with a color shot overlay.) I spent most of my time playing with the new IF filter. I really need more time to go out and play with the IF.

So any worth using in the contest? Help me pick so I don't have to use Puzzles.

leaves. Nada hardly here, at least on the trees. They are very late this year, but then it has been warm. So whats a person to do? Gather what leaves they can find, grab Puzzles and let the fun begin.

The one decent shot caught between laughing and chasing a ferret. The leaves did not survive.

Fitz's news conference and I didn't want to miss it, but I really really wanted to try out the infrared filter. So I set the camera up on a tripod and took a couple pictures out of the window. I am going to love playing around with infrared. (See what you started Gordon?} Anyway here are the results. I have a lot to learn but this looks like it is going to be fun.

I have already learned that you have to set up the shot, focus, turn off auto focus, put the lens on then shoot. You can not see anything once the filter is on.

What they look like on the camera lcd and when first opened.

Once you remove the color red you get...

Now I need a few days of bright sunny weather and off work so I can go try while actually setting up a decent composition etc.

Had a great time, and beyond tired but got to meet Intheflow, Blue_In_Ak and RagingInMiami (briefly but gave him a well deserved hug.) This is the first time I have gotten to meet others DUers in the flesh and have to say it was great. Didn't really get to talk to anyone one person long since so many showed up. For the great turnout. Wish I could of stayed longer and made the Saturday night stuff but had to head home to the zoo crew.
So here are your top 3 contest winners from last month.

Intheflow, Blue_In_Ak & CC

Hoping one of the others got a shot of Raging.

Dug out the Steamboat Springs photos. I need to try to get my mom to talk my uncle into sending out another photo album for scanning. My Grandmother had 3 she used to sit and show me with stories of who and where every time I was out to visit. She gets the credit for teaching us that photos are precious and are to be kept protected. I also think we got lucky in that she and my Grandfather were friend with a budding photographer then.

Train depot in Steamboat.

The Cabin Hotel built in 1909. It had 100 rooms, mainly for visitors who came to visit the hot springs on the railroad. It burned down in 1939 and claimed two lives.

Not sure, maybe stock yards? Any guesses?

Path to Fish Creek Falls

about 1910. I saw where some are from CO. and finally went and dug these out. If I remember right F. Gordon mentioned Longmont at one time. Anyway not sure who was the photographer on any of these but know they are about 1910 and no later than 1913 as my grandparents were not married yet.

Longmont street

Another street in Longmont

Bridge either in or just out side of Longmont.

Had to add this one of my Grandmother.

Theater in Longmont (Left to right Grandfather, Theater Owner?, Grandmother)

Stage Coach in snow in Longmont.

Now going to go look for the Steamboat Springs photos if any one is interested.
