I guess these are the new wedge issues to get the Republicans a platform. Not far behind will be immigration and the always popular pro-life debates. Please fellow DUers be very diligent in putting down all disinformation regarding these issues and alerting on those threads instead of letting them flame on. Social Security is not broke. It has a 2.6 trillion dollar surplus and is projected to be fully funded until 2034 with no reduction of benefits whatsoever. The funds have been invested in Treasury Bonds, which have the highest ratings in the bond market, because they are very low risk. This is the truth and verifiable at the Social Security government website among other independent and credible sources which verify this. Bernie Sanders and other progressive Democratic Congresspeople and Senators have information on this at their websites as well. Social Security and Medicare have nothing to do with balancing the budget because they are operated separately from the General Fund, nothing whatsoever.
