Ran across that tonight while reading and thought it was appropriate here. We're not even referred to as citizens anymore - simply as consumers.

Senator Cantwell ~

Do you get it now? How low do the poll numbers have to go before the Democrats in DC wake up to the fact that as your constituents we're mad as hell and aren't going to take it anymore?
I have voted for a Democrat in every election since Jimmy Carter in '80 but won't be voting for you, Murray, or Adam Smith when your terms end. I'm raising the next voter in our house and she looks forward to helping vote you all out of office. We will volunteer and vote for any progressive challenger who stands up for our Constitution and the rule of law. The criminals in this administration will be impeached with or without your help. Our troops will be evacuated from this disastrous occupation sooner rather than later.
We are Americans first and foremost, not Democrats, Americans and we want our country back!

Most sincerely ~

Never used the prepacked option since my little girl enjoyed picking out all the stuff to go in the boxes and ALWAYS threw in a coupla bags of Jolly Ranchers. One troop looked us up back in '04 and said all the guys in his squad had at least a coupla Jolly Ranchers saved in their pockets til the next box arrived.

The site explains it all: Any Soldier - Includes Marine/Sailor/Airman, too.

Best money I've ever spent.

I won't support any DLC (Repuke-Lite) candidate.

I've found the site of the Congressional Progressive Caucus is more in line with my views.

The Progressive Promise: Fairness For all

The Congressional Progressive Caucus offers the Progressive Promise for all. We believe in government of the people, by the people, and for the people. Our fairness plan is rooted in our core principles. It also embodies national priorities that are consistent with the values, needs, and hopes of all our people, not just the powerful and the privileged. We pledge our unwavering commitment to these legislative priorities and we will not rest until they become law.

1. Fighting for Economic Justice and Security in the U.S. and Global Economies

» To uphold the right to universal access to affordable, high quality healthcare for all.

<snip>

2. Protecting and Preserving Civil Rights and Civil Liberties

» To sunset expiring provisions of the Patriot Act and bring remaining provisions into line with the U. S. Constitution.

» To protect the personal privacy of all Americans from unbridled police powers and unchecked government intrusion.

<snip>

3. Promoting Global Peace and Security

» To honor and help our overburdened international public servants – both military and civilian.

» To bring U. S. troops home from Iraq as soon as possible.

<snip>

4. Environmental Protection & Energy Independence

» To free ourselves and our economy from dependence upon imported oil and shift to growing reliance upon renewable energy supplies and technologies, thus creating at least three million new jobs, cleansing our environment, and enhancing our nation’s security.

» To promote environmental justice in affirmation that all people have an inherent right to a healthy environment, clean air, and clean water wherever we live, work, and relax.

<snip>

There is so much more to this Promise, but I didn't want to infringe on the copyright so go read it all at Progressive Promise. Take a look at the membership list, too. None of my so called representatives are on it which I'm going to work to rectify, but most of the people I admire are members.

My daughter did it again. Speaking truth to power today in her science class. Her Repug flatearth believin' teacher takes every opportunity to slip political slurs into his lectures and she nails him to the floor every time.
Today he began his lecture about lying Democrats with Al Gore, and listed every Democrat he could think of. My daughter countered with G'duh, Gonzales, Rove, Cheney, Guiliani, McCain, etc. She said every Democrat he named she came back with another lying Repug until he weakly tried saying she'd been brainwashed by the "culture of hate". To which she said, "Do you WATCH Fox News?! There's your culture of hate! They hate every member of the human species that's not a white male Republican!" She said he didn't have an answer for that & changed the topic back to science before they really got into it. She loves it that he starts off on these rants and she shuts him down.

He's a retired Navy man, and is retiring from teaching after this year. I'm sure he's ready after crossing words with my kid. I told her recently, "Well at least this is his last year." And she laughed and said, "O yeah, he's got ME his last year!"

Don't worry, he never takes it out on her in her grades. Straight A's and complimentary comments on her report card everytime. So he's not vindictive, just a glutton for punishment after lunch.

Received this today from my Rep. after calling his office in DC & Tacoma repeatedly since the 24th of April. Finally a response. Not what I wanted to hear, but a clear statement of his position.

May 4, 2007

Dear ,

Thank you for taking the time to contact me in support of legislation from Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) to initiate impeachment proceedings against Vice President Richard Cheney (H.Res.333). I appreciated hearing from you and would like to take a moment to respond.

As you know, impeachment involves the legislative branch of our government (Congress) bringing accusations against officials such as cabinet members, judges, the Vice President, and the President. The power to impeach resides solely with the House of Representatives; the power to try an impeachment case resides solely with the Senate. The Chief Justice of the United States presides over the inquiry in case of impeachment of the President. Traditionally, the House, after drawing up and voting on articles of impeachment that specify the charges and their factual bases, assigns congressional "managers" (prosecutors) to present the case before the Senate. At the start of the trial, the members of the Senate are sworn in as "jurors" by the chief justice. A two-thirds vote of the senators present is required to convict. Punishment is limited to removal from office, though disqualification from future office is considered to fall within the discretion of the Senate, and the acts of the accused are still subject to criminal proceedings in the courts. Impeachable acts cited in the Constitution are "Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors."

One of the most difficult questions raised by these provisions is: What are high crimes and misdemeanors? The conclusion reached by most scholars is that clear criminal law violations represent impeachable offenses, whereas misconduct that is not necessarily criminal but that undermines the integrity of the office (such as disregard of constitutional responsibilities) may rise to the level of an impeachable offense. Partly because of this, impeachment has taken place infrequently. By making impeachment difficult, the Constitution guards against the intrusion of the legislature into the business of the judiciary and executive branches. It also ensures that impeachment remains primarily a legal, or judicial, procedure rather than a political process.

I agree with you on the need to confront Vice President Cheney on the points where he has been dishonest with the American people. As for impeachment itself, that is a very serious step to take and one I cannot support at this time. I strongly believe that it should be reserved for the gravest of occasions, because respecting our process of democratic governance is such an important foundation in our country. I am concerned that pursuing impeachment would bitterly divide our country - which is part of the reason why the Constitutional standard for impeachment is so high.

Please know I strongly disapprove of this Administration's policies and will continue to vigorously fight Administration initiatives that I believe are not in the best interests of the nation. On issue after issue, the Administration's policies have failed, and it is our responsibility to push for a change of course. As a member of both of the House Armed Services and Foreign Affairs Committees, I am working with my colleagues to identify policy options to do this. I am pleased to see much greater oversight taking place in Congress this year and look forward to continuing to challenge the Administration's actions and to propose more suitable alternatives.
We must continue to exercise our oversight responsibilities and investigate the Administration whenever we believe improper or ineffective actions are being taken.

Again, thank you for letting me know about your support for this resolution. Please be assured that I will continue to challenge the Vice President when I disagree with him. Should you have any specific ideas for policies to advance as an alternative to this Administration's agenda, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Sincerely,

Adam Smith
Member of Congress
