Argentine Judge Allows Gay Marriage, Sets Latin American Precedent

By VOA News
14 November 2009

An Argentine judge has granted a homosexual couple permission to marry, setting a precedent that could pave the way for the Catholic country to become the first in Latin America to allow same-sex marriage.

Friday's ruling by Buenos Aires Judge Gabriela Seijas ordered the city's civil registry to officially confirm the marriage of Alejandro Freyre and Jose Maria Di Bello.

The decision could increase pressure on Argentine lawmakers to debate a stalled gay marriage bill currently deadlocked in Congress.

Buenos Aires became the region's first municipality to approve civil unions for gay couples in 2002 and was followed by several other jurisdictions countrywide.

Same sex civil unions are also allowed in Mexico City and Uruguay, which became the first country to legalize the practice in 2007.

- If these Argentine Catholics are anything like the ones here in Boston and in D.C., then we can expect them to denounce the willful respect and deference shown for civil law, instead of their more archaic, criminal and discriminatory holy laws of persecution they believe should be shown against teh ghey.

They will, of course, refuse to take anymore government money to run social services programs, whether is has anything to do with teh ghey or not. Because they're just pissed-off now, for being ignored!!! And it's getting worser, and worser. No one listens to them anymore and they don't like it one damn bit!!! (stamps feet three times) So they'll show us!!! And so they're doing THIS!!!!

And in so doing, they will be opening up new jobs and creating opportunities for new private not-for-profits to spring up everywhere they go like mushrooms after a spring shower. I smell a new motto in the making:

"The Catholics, wherever and whenever we leave -- we're good for the economy."
