Found this on reddit

"Observers will be dispersed throughout the crowds with whistles. If an officer is seen acting inappropriately or in any way violating our rights, a whistle will be blown ordering our protesters to immediately sit on the ground quietly so the officer can be identified and his actions observed."
From Occupy Dallas' open letter to the police.

I thought this was great a good Dem buddy of mine knows I pass on a lot of stuff so he updated on something he just did....so here I am passing it on...

something that I thought was interesting and thought I’d pass along.

I repeatedly hear advertisements on the radio for McCain that state, “Ayers and Obama ran a radical education foundation together.” Beside the fact that it’s blatantly untrue, it’s insidious how it never mentions the radical education foundation. A radical education foundation is a scary thing, it becomes scarier when the name is too frightening to even mention.

What I did was I began calling McCain field offices in Ohio and posing as an Independent asking the name of this radical education foundation. I told them that I wanted to Google the name on the internet and see how radical they are. I couldn’t find one office that knew what the “radical education foundation” was. They admitted to making calls with that in the script and some of their literature said that but they didn’t know and didn’t ask what foundation they’re speaking of. “We just do what they tell us to do”, one older sounding gentleman said. Another told me, “You know as much as I do, I haven’t been told what the foundation is”.

I was surprised at how open they were, but probably half agreed with me that they shouldn’t hand out information they can’t answer questions on. You could tell a few even felt a little silly not having an answer. I encourage all of you who are curious to do the same and ask the questions. We can’t ask the candidate directly but we can ask their surrogates. Be prepared because some may have an answer, so have a follow up asking what in the curriculum made the foundation radical and who else served on it. Ask where you can find proof that Barack ran the foundation.

These are legitimate questions, they should be able to and have to answer.

Wrong Woman, Wrong Message
By Gloria Steinem

Here's the good news: Women have become so politically powerful that even the anti-feminist right wing -- the folks with a headlock on the Republican Party -- are trying to appease the gender gap with a first-ever female vice president. We owe this to women -- and to many men too -- who have picketed, gone on hunger strikes or confronted violence at the polls so women can vote. We owe it to Shirley Chisholm, who first took the "white-male-only" sign off the White House, and to Hillary Rodham Clinton, who hung in there through ridicule and misogyny to win 18 million votes.

But here is even better news: It won't work. This isn't the first time a boss has picked an unqualified woman just because she agrees with him and opposes everything most other women want and need. Feminism has never been about getting a job for one woman. It's about making life more fair for women everywhere. It's not about a piece of the existing pie; there are too many of us for that. It's about baking a new pie.

Selecting Sarah Palin, who was touted all summer by Rush Limbaugh, is no way to attract most women, including die-hard Clinton supporters. Palin shares nothing but a chromosome with Clinton. Her down-home, divisive and deceptive speech did nothing to cosmeticize a Republican convention that has more than twice as many male delegates as female, a presidential candidate who is owned and operated by the right wing and a platform that opposes pretty much everything Clinton's candidacy stood for -- and that Barack Obama's still does. To vote in protest for McCain/Palin would be like saying, "Somebody stole my shoes, so I'll amputate my legs."

This is not to beat up on Palin. I defend her right to be wrong, even on issues that matter most to me. I regret that people say she can't do the job because she has children in need of care, especially if they wouldn't say the same about a father. I get no pleasure from imagining her in the spotlight on national and foreign policy issues about which she has zero background, with one month to learn to compete with Sen. Joe Biden's 37 years' experience.

Palin has been honest about what she doesn't know. When asked last month about the vice presidency, she said, "I still can't answer that question until someone answers for me: What is it exactly that the VP does every day?" When asked about Iraq, she said, "I haven't really focused much on the war in Iraq."

She was elected governor largely because the incumbent was unpopular, and she's won over Alaskans mostly by using unprecedented oil wealth to give a $1,200 rebate to every resident. Now she is being praised by McCain's campaign as a tax cutter, despite the fact that Alaska has no state income or sales tax. Perhaps McCain has opposed affirmative action for so long that he doesn't know it's about inviting more people to meet standards, not lowering them. Or perhaps McCain is following the Bush administration habit, as in the Justice Department, of putting a job candidate's views on "God, guns and gays" ahead of competence. The difference is that McCain is filling a job one 72-year-old heartbeat away from the presidency.

So let's be clear: The culprit is John McCain. He may have chosen Palin out of change-envy, or a belief that women can't tell the difference between form and content, but the main motive was to please right-wing ideologues; the same ones who nixed anyone who is now or ever has been a supporter of reproductive freedom. If that were not the case, McCain could have chosen a woman who knows what a vice president does and who has thought about Iraq; someone like Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison or Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine. McCain could have taken a baby step away from right-wing patriarchs who determine his actions, right down to opposing the Violence Against Women Act.

Call your local voter registration office. If your in Ohio you are going to want to do this Blackwell is purging the voting list.

It should be in the phone book. Don't know if they'll send you a new voter card, but at least you'll know that all is in order. Or, you can call your local representative and they'll direct you to the proper department.

or
Most places you can check on line.
Go to your County Secretary of State Office Web site or the equivalent where you live.

In ohio you can check on line at
http://www.sos.state.oh.us /
It is worth checking before the election

Writ of habeas corpus.

"You have the body" Prisoners often seek release by filing a petition for a writ of habeas corpus. A writ of habeas corpus is a judicial mandate to a prison official ordering that an inmate be brought to the court so it can be determined whether or not that person is imprisoned lawfully. Basically if you get tossed into prison you have a right to appear in court and ask why and be set free if there is real reason... or well you did have that right before Mr. Bush signed it away.

Under this bill, anyone even a U.S. citizens , depending on how the definition of enemy combatant interpreted, can be hauled in ,interrogated probably tortured and and imprisoned forever by the U.S. without ANY charges ever being brought against them.

For all you people who say "These are terrorists!""Who cares !" you say," terrorist shouldn't have rights!!" I submit that they are people who have been arrested. We do not know they are terrorists, they have not been tried and they can be American Citizens..read you or me.

Some say I am being silly, overeating. I want to believe that, but since Mr. Bush has been in office I have been called a traitor,I have had republicans directly and indirectly claim I am aiding and abetting the enemy because I don't agree with the war in Iraq and many of Mr. Bush's policies. Who is to say that somebody in power doesn't feel that way? That somebody in powers doesnt think I am a threat to my country? Could I be jailed? Could you? Did you ever write a letter to the editor, or protest? Give money to a cause?

If the Government was doing something clearing wrong, illegal do you want them held accountable? Do you think that will possible when the informant, reporter any one trying to bring this great wrong to light can be put in prison and never have a day in court

Democrat, Republican, Independent or anything in-between this should be a wake up call. This has to be stopped these things Mr. Bush seeks to take from us are our freedoms, freedoms paid for in American blood, sweat and tears.

I submit that anyone seeking to take these freedoms away is indeed a threat to the country
