for the financial crisis. You silly, silly protesters... its your OWN FAULT. Its your poor neighbors fault. Don't blame the 1%. Blame THEM. The OTHER. We're your IDEAL, Its a sad, sick attempt to shift attention away from their actions - their insatiable greed, their lack of moral compass and compassion. The 1% will fight back and try to divide us; don't let them. They sang this song before, when everything started falling apart. Poor Byron York tried it a couple years ago. Unfortunately fo...

Arrests = 0. That crowd smashed beer bottles in the streets. This crowd chanted. What was the difference? reported: A handful of people, then hundreds, then thousands, broke through police barricades and surged onto City Hall's steps. From there, the protest degenerated into a beer-swilling, traffic-snarling, epithet-hurling melee that stretched from the Brooklyn Bridge to Murray Street, where several politicians helped stoke the emotional fires. .... Another contingent of 1,000 to 4,000 ha...

"You are mad and educated, primitive and wild. Here we stand and here we fight. Welcome to the Occupation." R.E.M. It wasn't written about #OccupyWallStreet, but makes me think of you. Stay strong and rage on! More of us are coming as soon as we can. We are all so proud of you. (Image) (Image) (Image) (Image)

Aristocracyfull with permission of the author Street has been occupied…by cops. I watched firsthand as these "servants of the people" took refuge behind barricades and violence to keep the spark of revolution from catching fire - the movement of #occupywallstreet. The revolt against greed began on September 17th and the occupiers plan to stay indefinitely. We came together to fight corruption in corporate America and the corporation cash that influences our country and government. About 10% ...

I don't like that man. I must get to know him better. Sunday morning after the rally, my son and I went on a brief walking tour of DC in great spirits from the day before. On the far side of the mall was the Lincoln Memorial; our last stop before heading for the airport. As we wandered past the strained faces of the marathon runners, I chose some pretty autumn leaves for my Thanksgiving table, and remembered the Halloween I had participated in my first 5K. We chatted and people watched as we st...

There seems to be a lot of concern amongst parents recently, that their kids might not do as well they as them. For the first time ever in America (insert many exclamation points here) But the more I think about it, the more I wonder about the reference points, the parameters, that 'as well as' means. My two semi-adult kids (the 3rd is still in middle school) will probably not own a home as large as the one I'm desperate to get rid of. They are part of a generation that wrinkles their noses a...

when the realization hit me that we were going to war in the Gulf. The first time. I was pregnant with my daughter. She is now in college; I was at my mom's house, looking at a parenting magazine with CNN on in the background. Saddam Hussein had invaded Kuwait, and I had that 'witnessing history' moment. I had difficulty explaining to my younger sister why this was pivotal and why we would be getting involved. I remember where I was when I had the sinking feeling things were going awry with ...

File this under . [div class="excerpt"WASHINGTON — Vice President Joe Biden is warning that if states don't use federal stimulus money as intended, the Obama administration may take the money back or mount a public campaign to embarrass them. Biden, appearing Wednesday on ABC's "Good Morning America," will be overseeing implementation of President Barack Obama's $787 billion stimulus plan. Biden says the money "cannot be squandered" and warns that states will be held accountable for what they ...

Sometimes you just have to take a stand. Enough is enough. Last summer, our governor and the GOP's Shining-Star-of-the-Future Bobby Jindal signed into law SB733, the "Louisiana Science Education Law," which of course, isn't about teaching science at all, but alternatives to same. While the governor and the legislators who supported the law will mouth talking points about how the law "still requires teaching from the textbook" and "doesn't mandate any changes," intelligent design freaks like...

Nature abhors a vacuum. George Will has filled it... ho boy had he filled it! When both and laugh at you on their front pages, you know you've done something silly. No longer content to trot his old 1970's era newspaper out on Sunday talk shows, George Will is now taking his show on the road, and must've been mistakenly booked by the for the wrong event - I think he was supposed to be part of the dinner show, but ended up as part of the comedy hour. TOKYO — The U.N. climate chief praised President Barack Obama's pledge to tackle global warming and expressed hope Friday that the U.S. policy shift would boost chances for a new international agreement on cutting emissions of greenhouse gases. 1/21/09, 3:43 pm EST Obama has just rescinded the rule that would have let Bush’s heirs continue to claim executive privilege over his papers: The Executive Order on Presidential Records brings those principles to presidential records by giving the American people greater access to these historic documents. This order ends the practice of having others besides the President assert executive privilege for records after an administration ends. Now, only the President will have that power, lim...

He looked himself in the eye, the mirror reflecting back the old twinkle he’d thought was gone for good. Heh. The weight of the past year was lifted up and he could breathe, really breathe again. The phone had stopped ringing; all those angry, annoying bullies he forced himself to be genial to had given up in disgust. Their money was gone, and his devil’s pact from 2000 was paid. That woman who had seemed like such a sweet escape had lost her appeal, like someone you'd picked up in a bar, seen...

He sank into the leather chair and squinted at the odd label on the beer he was holding. Belgium? He hoped it didn’t have that funny German taste to it. He wiped the wet bottom of the bottle on his khakis and glanced around for an opener. Seeing none, he flexed his fingers over the top and used his wedding ring to pop the top off. Relaxing back into the seat, he took a long pull. It was cold and had that Canadian ale taste going that he knew and liked. If only he could put his feet up, but the p...

She stood ramrod straight, her thoughts on Bitsy. Her snide email had unsettled her. Was this what she was in for on her return to her home state when this was over, if things continued the way they were going? She hadn’t thought that far ahead. The uncomfortably pregnant teenager adjusted the infant sleeping in her arms; his soft hair was damp with sweat where it met with her chest. His deep, steady breathing calmed her, and she closed her eyes and focused on the sweet rhythm as the plane brought them closer to their destination. The balding man watched her intently, perhaps reminiscing about a simpler time when his children slumbered on his own lap. With a sigh, he shifted his attention to the beautifully manicured fingertips resting...

After a furtive glance around the smallish conference room for members of the press, he sat down with a thump, and kicked his Ferragamo loafers off. It was a signal we knew well, and there were quick motions to attentiveness; all leaned forward and inhaled. "Who the hell's was supposed to be in charge of arranging this damn event. I won't even go into what is wrong with it." He ended on a bark, and the pencil-slim blonde seated to the right, and slightly behind him winced as if avoiding a blow....

(Link) In the short term, all the solutions to the current crisis require that governments take on more debts and larger obligations. This is inevitable and necessary. But that doesn't mean we should, as some noted economists advocate, stimulate the economy with more tax cuts. That would be only one more way to keep the party going artificially—like asking a drunk to go to AA next year, but in the meantime to have even more whisky. A far better stimulus would be to announce and expedite major i...

For all of you who have lost, or are afraid you will lose your jobs in this awful economy, may I offer my opinion on what I consider to be Barack Obama's finest . This, to me, will be President Obama's New Deal, the shining star atop his legacy. During the Great Depression the was a concrete example of a huge government project that put hundreds of thousands of unemployed Americans back to work. When you visit the trails in National Parks, when you drive on highways, see dams, bridges, telepho...
