Wow! Du has nailed another million posts up to the wall, and in just 59 days!
DUing good DU!
We hit 23 million back on May 15th (22 million back on March 24th) and the conservative prediction then was that'd we'd hit see 24 million on July 6th.
Now when will the next million hit?
Good grief Charlie Brown -- 59 days from today is September 10th... So this time I'll pick good ol' 9-11 for the "quarter".

Tue May 16th 2006, 10:38 AM Here's my take on the sanctity and utility of technology-based solutions:
If there is a great incentive to hack a computer, then a lot of money spent can do wonders. For example, a corporation that saves 100's of millions on wages might look at the cost-benefit analysis and if say $10 million fell into a shady republican developer's hands (or china's!) and all their workers with names like "Miguel" suddenly had fully legit biometric ID's and names like "Steve", would they really care, if they ...

Wow! Du has nailed another million posts up to the wall, and in just 52 days!
and the conservative prediction then was that'd we'd hit see 23 million in 85 days on June 17th.
DUing good DU!
Now the next million should take less than 52 days, which would be July 6th. Just for fun I'll conservatively predict July 4th, which would be a great day to nail another million.

Thu May 04th 2006, 11:42 PM Quite frankly, reading Howard Zinn's "A People's History of the United States", I'm actually surprised that the middle class was allowed to rise!!
(Link)
As some other posters have mentioned, the rise of the middle class owes a lot more to labor and all those willing to stand up to "the capitalists", sometimes facing punishment, torture, and death.
You might want to take a look at this timeline and ask yourself if it was capitalism that was really standing up for the little guy:

Thu May 04th 2006, 10:19 PM To go up against Rummy to his face means this guy gets the first "Colbert Award" for BIG BALLS after Stephen stepped up to the plate at the Press dinner and hit the bullshit right out of the park!
Now Ray McGovern is next in the rotation and took that other liar-in-chief to the cleaners!

Tue May 02nd 2006, 10:51 PM Truly, the media blackout will find the backlash of exposing the way the news media IN FACT chooses what is "news" by omissions like this.
Lots of _real_ journalists have commented on this already. Considering the video of his speech blew out the records at Crooks and Liars, the video is getting out there in a big way.
Colbert is an amazing patriot!

HOLY HUEVOS!!
This guy knows how to say GO CHENEY YOURSELF to the press that ignored him!
Here's the transcript of the video:

NOTE BY FREDERICK: The "audition tape" I have transcribed below is available here.
BEGINNING OF "AUDITION TAPE"
Colbert shows a video of a mock press conference. It opens with an empty podium. Colbert's head rises from behind the podium until Colbert is standing at the podium. He addresses the as...

Sun Apr 30th 2006, 11:56 PM Quite simply I see what he STRATEGICALLY (stratergically?) did was two fold, both aimed at the press, with the politicos really a secondary thing:
1) he called out the press for letting all this happen
and
2) by saying everything he said while the politicos were RIGHT THERE, he showed the press what REAL BALLS actually are
It wasn't anti-bush, per se. Really it was all aimed at the fourth estate which really is populated by rich white lazy CRAVEN idiots chosen to be exactly that...

Sun Apr 30th 2006, 01:09 PM Pre-script: If you don't want to support this shaming effort, that's fine, but calls to "calm down" are not needed; thanks in advance. This is a discussion of DOING something, not a discussion of what NOT to do. We're all adults here and should understand that our actions can actually mean something. To those who don't agree with this effort then please do what your momma taught you: if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anthing at all. As well, as a reminder of the power of main...

Sun Apr 23rd 2006, 12:30 PM For anyone who still believes computers are infallible and therefore should be trusted with the life of our country (aka Democracy), you might want to see just how wonderfully spectacular they can FAIL.
This is the story of a motorist who's computer-controlled "Drive-by-Wire" BMW went insane:

Tue Apr 11th 2006, 10:37 PM I believe Sy Hersh's contacts inside the Pentagon are KNOWN by the * admin people and they are being fed a special diet of "they're really gonna do it".
And this is for one simple reason: keep the talk of *'s failures, lies, and treasons OFF the #1 spot.
As long as people are asking "are they really that crazy", their attention and focus on "they are criminals" is diverted and deflected.
God bless Sy, but anyone can be lead down the garden path, ESPECIALLY if the NSA/AT&T "Narus 6400" is s...

What I keep coming back to is how easy and cheap FULL PAPER BALLOTS actually are. When I say FULL, I mean no optical scanners, no touchscreen voting machines -- NO MACHINES AT ALL!
Here's why:
They take less than 1 week to prepare (design, print, deliver)
They are relatively inexpensive: 10,000 couldn't cost more than $10,000 -- Compared to a SINGLE voting machine at $10k+
They are EASY to count and verify with multiple parties viewing and cross-checking.
If a ballot is too complex, separ...

As criminals or aiders and abettors of criminals these radio show folks know that if the tide really turns, they're going to be washed out with the rest of the shit.
So almost like lemmings they're scrambling to maintain a higher ground by becoming more and more shrill, lashing out against anyone who's bringing to light the nature of their fantasy world. They look around and see "all these other RW talk shows" and think they must be the majority.
Of course they can't do the simple...

FBI, CIA, DHS, DOJ, DOS, DEA, ATF: Any organization with in-house intelligence or enforcement would have been corrupted by the craven political appointees put in charge.
I think the main use of the NSA has been to spy on the admin's REAL terror threat: the democratic party (and their own (R) boys too ... just to be on the safe side ;)) God knows that compared to spying on the Soviet's BILLIONS (trillions maybe) of electronic signals back in the day, that ...

Mon Mar 27th 2006, 09:54 AM Here's a graph I made. Save and share! :)
(Image)
A couple of points to note:
The purple line with square points is the debt as a % of GDP (with the percentage scale on the right side of the graph). You might consider as the amount of money you earn per year vs. how much debt you carry. (Frankly when I looked at this I thought its actually kinda reasonable. If someone made $40K/year, carrying $13,200 (33%) or even $27,200 (68%) in a car loan or a mortgage doesn't seem out of bounds. But...

Mon Mar 20th 2006, 05:59 PM There is only the shell of what people came to expect from "the fifth estate".
Publishers control editors and editors control what "journalists" write and what is printed.
Corporations have a vested interest in secrecy. Case in point is the rise in legal settlements tied to "gag orders".
"Many times a legal settlement will contain a clause barring the parties thereto from disclosing the terms of the settlement in public. This restriction is referred to as a gag order.
It is interesting to...

All my life, I thought this kind of solution was so far beyond what our country stands for, that it would not be something that could be seriously considered.
But the past 5 years have shown me that black is white and up is down.
All bets are off with this administration.
So it would not surprise me (sadly) that they already have drawn up detailed plans for just such an eventuality...

That word is certainly writ large in each and every of TIA's posts, as well as in everyone seeking to examine the events that govern our nation and govern ...

The good news is "anger is an energy" ... energy that leaders need at every level...
the 1775 crowd may have had a few folks who'd say they "HAVE to take it -- at least as long as I live in this country" ... but 1776 showed those people that there IS another option other than "love it" or "leave it" ... I think its closer to Howie Mandel's new show "Deal or No Deal"!!

It effected the Maryland election Admin quite a bit.
Pushing this to more election admins might create some good traction.
