John McCain doesn't discuss what this proposal truly means and how American voters will react to it, so let me count the ways:

1. More Radioactive nuclear waste traveling on our highways, increasing the odds for a Nuclear "accident".

2. More Radioactive Nuclear waste to store in a questionable fashion, and the largest question is "where"? Ask Nevadans about this issue. Also see "Yucca Mountain", and Obama's excellent new ad going up in Nevada as we speak. http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/08... / page down to watch the ad.

3. The Local News coverage will Bury McCain in Nevada, a state he can't afford to lose.
Example of local news coverage -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4KR0XUIhec

4. Older Americans, many who are McCain's best demographic, quite frankly remember films like "3 Mile Island", occurences like the Chernobyl Nuclear Russian disaster, Duck and Cover as a national security strategy, etc..... In otherwords, they were adults in an era when Nuclear was The Bad word. They haven't forgotten this, so that subconciously and viscerally regardless of their party affiliation, their memories will not allow them to jump onto the McCain Nuclear trainwreck very easily. Again, many in the age group I am referring to are McCain's strongest demographic. The mention of "Nuclear" to that particular voting segment does not dredge up fond memories.

5. In selling Nuclear Power Plants, France is the country most often showcased as a good example. The difference is that France's power needs dwarf our own, and Republicans prefer that France not be used as a positive example of......well anything, i.e., an instant turn off to many McCain voters.

6. America's Nuclear Power Plants have been one of the locations mentioned frequently in terms of our National Security and what Terrorists could attack to truly harm us. A few years ago, much was made about the lack of security surrounding our existing Nuclear Power reactors.

7. Building New Nuclear Power Plants will take years, and costs lots....and I doubt that there would be a voter mandate that we use tax money to fund such projects.

All in all, this part of McCain's energy policy, just like most of the rest, stinks the most to a large segment of the population.
