My sister-in-law went to hear my brother's band play last weekend at an American Legion Hall where they perform on a regular basis. She went up to these two women (ages 80-something and 90) who were sitting at the bar drinking and smoking, and encouraged them to get up and dance. So they did...less energetically than some; but no less enjoyably.
When the song was done, they walked back to the bar, and the 90 year old woman fell down and died. There was an emergency-tech there who tried to do CPR; but it was of no use. She apparently suffered a massive stroke.
My sister-in-law is pretty freaked right now, feeling she was somehow responsible; but I'm thinking the woman was probably going to have the stroke regardless of the dance. She was driving...she could have died while she was on the road, and injured someone else. Or she could have been sitting there and died at the bar.
I'm sorry she's gone, and that people will undoubtedly miss her; but part of me can't help rejoicing that the old lady had a last dance before she went.
