I just wanted to thank you for all you did to make DU such a special place. You always treated people with kindness and respect...even if they weren't acting particularly kind or respectful. How deeply you are already missed.
Thank you for your stories, which always came from your heart and were offered as gifts to us. I'll never forget the exchanges we had, reminiscing over beautiful places we'd visited in the low country. I haven't visited the area in many years; but I think I'd like to soon...to remember you, and shed a fond tear for you.
My friend, if I'd known you were leaving us, I would have hopped up to New York and played some Mozart for you; since you liked it so much. I'm sorry now that I never had the chance.
Peace to you, Ed.
Glückliche Fahrt
Die Nebel zerreißen,
Der Himmel ist helle,
Und Aeolus löset
Das ängstliche Band.
Es säuseln die Winde,
Es rührt sich der Schiffer.
Geschwinde! Geschwinde!
Es teilt sich die Welle,
Es naht sich die Ferne,
Schon seh' ich das Land!
