* possibly an increased tax burden for all through the voucher-subsidy
* lack of societal control over the curriculum students undergo (at the private schools) (Creationism, etc., not excluded).
* difficulty for local school officials to anticipate total enrollment given uncertainty about private-school enrollment
* most importantly, a two-tiered education system, given that private schools likely offer higher teacher salaries and thereby attract more capable teachers. Those in the private schools getting the better education, those left behind the worse education
A progressive state strives to prevent the privatization of schooling!!!
"It's current form is the car." -- Tell that nonsense to all those who commute by bicycle each week. I mean, besides me, even when it's -5 C, as it will be on Friday.
"Even in the densest urban areas, cars are still sought and used." For what, to belch harmful filth into the air for people to breathe??? Or to cause global warming??? I anxiously await your answer.
"man has had some form of individualized transport, and generally one that could haul some groceries too" -- when humanity gets as excited about the latest developments in cargo bikes as some alas are about air-polluting, global-warming, people-killing, junkyard-filling cars, then I'll know humanity has progressed.
Until that time, you might want to think a little bit less about the INDIVIDUAL, and a little bit more about SOCIETY. Outside the bike, the best way to get people around is the subway, as New Yorkers have found out. The subway, people working together rather than fighting each other both in snarled traffic and for almost-nonexistent parking places.
You want proof you say??? Go on, get behind the exhaust pipe of one your beloved vehicles when it's running and then inhale. What, you're not TOO CHICKEN TO DO SO, ARE YOU, and thereby obtain the "proof" that you seek??????
And then think too about how every day I as a bicyclist in traffic have to inhale the filth -- THE GODDAMN FILTH -- that you and people like you have no qualms about putting into the air that people breathe. DAMN!!!!!
An excellent idea as it would deter driving and thereby:
* Reduce Air Pollution. Cars belch so much filth into the air each day, filth that people have to inhale
* Reduce Global Warming
* Save Unrenewable Resources. Heck, the people of tomorrow might be wanting oil too you know, for some reason or other
* Reduce the amount of accidents on the road
* Promote the use of more energy-efficient means of travel, including
* THE BICYCLE!!! Health care costs are substantially reduced when fat, lazy people (you know the obesity rate in this country?) get off there fat, lazy asses and onto bicycles!
Forty percent or so of the people in Holland get around by bicycle for commuting, etc., and the Dutch are striving hard to increase that percentage. Similar situation in other countries in Western Europe. It's time the U.S. took action.
It boggles my mind that Ted "Tubes" Stevens can get re-elected after being convicted of SEVEN FELONY CHARGES!! Republicans don't give a damn???? What's the story with these people??
