Many threads have discussed the recently signed Military Commissions Act of 2006 (MCA) and its effect on habeas corpus. The media, to a limited degree, have picked up on the story - most notably, Keith Olbermann. In response to the high level of interest, I would like to see DU consolidate the discussion in one thread. My thoughts on analogies and their use: Inherent in the definition of an analogy is the absence of identity. For a person to compare a thing with itself yields nothing new. When an analogy is employed, the two things are, by definition, different. As a result, analogies are immediately suspect as tools of argumentation. pullout by the end of the year. Bush has gotten us into a horrible mess but pulling out won't fix it. However, the status quo is simply torture. We need to increase the amount of troops in Iraq so we can stabilize the country and get out. I'll be voting for the Congressional, Senatorial, and Presidential candidates who espouse this idea. I read an article that recommended 1 troop per 100 citizens in order to stabilize a country. Iraq has about 26,000,000 citizens and we therefore need about 26...
