I just cherish the pictures. I also kept every card and letter they ever sent me. I look through those every once in a while, too. And I have some of their things, which I treasure. My grandma's angels from her collection is on my bookshelf and I am looking at it right now.

Especially on days like this. They would have just loved the rethug smack down.
In their younger days. ![]() With me as a kid at Disneyland in 1982. ![]() And together, near the end. ![]() My grandpa was on the School Board in Kentucky. When it wasn't popular, he was open to the teaching of evolution in the school. This shocked many people because he was also a church-going Christian. They couldn't reconcile the two. My grandmother was married twice before, to two unworthy men. When she finally met my grandfather, she had recently divorced her second husband. When they were planning on getting married, her second husband took my grandfather to court, claiming my grandfather had stolen his "property"- my grandmother. Remember, this is the mid 1930s. My grandfather's argument was that since he considered women equal, and not any less nor his property, it was therefore impossible to claim stolen property. He never hid where my grandmother was, and she wasn't secret about her location, either. Needless to say, my grandpa won! He eventually owned his own Ford dealership. It was the only car dealership of any kind in the county. He practically gave the cars away. If you didn't have the money, he'd allow you to pay in crops or any other wares you may sell or make (he wasn't very picky!). If you grew corn, for example, each year, when your crops came in, just bring a bit and he would sell it right from the garage. And, funny that, he would always manage to "misplace" how much you still owed him after a short period of time or during a bad crop season. He never made a fortune, but his argument always was "How much do I need, anyway?" I miss them desperately everyday. ![]() ![]() My grandpa and me in the late 1970s. ![]() My grandparents, my mom and me in the late 80s or early 90s. ![]() Grandma and grandpa holding my mom. ![]() My grandparents and my mom at the family cemetery. ![]() My mom and my grandparents in front of the last Ford car my grandpa bought. ![]() George and Thelma

![]() Perhaps this is where shrub got the idea that monkeys are suppose to touch the tops of heads. Mon May 08th 2006, 09:29 PM privately. This was just a ratings ploy. Sickening. I've had many students who suffer that and worse. I'd never broadcast something like that. It is the hardest thing to do, call CPS and know that within a few short hours, those kids will be taken out of their home and put into foster care. I once had a kid beg me to let him live with me and Mr. kt. The police later told me when they took him from the house, he begged them to take him to my house. It is just awful.
dr. phil is a heartless piece of shit and (I believe) a shrub-lover at that. I was in the audience when he did a show interviewing Kerry. I was picked to ask a question. Not only did they completely rewrite my question and make me practice it, but then they didn't even let the three of us who were chosen ask our rewritten questions. On the following day when he had the christo-fascists zombie-brigade of shrub-lovers there, they got to ask their little question. And over the years, I've heard him make little comments that led me to think he may be a reich-winger. I freaking hate dr. phil.

Wed Apr 26th 2006, 10:39 AM Can you get by without shopping at a box retailer? Great, do that!
If you live in a larger city or in the suburbs, there are more options--- but you have to look for them. Can you drive a smaller more fuel efficient car? Great, do that! You might have to wait a few years to buy a new car, but you can sure encourage as many people as possible to buy a fuel efficient vehicle... and write LTTE and to the companies who are releasing these vehicles and show your support, even if you can not own one at the moment. Can you recycle where you live? Ok, there's your contribution. Again, you might have to do a search. If you can't find something, perhaps you can find others who are interested and either take turns taking your recycling to another town or work together to bring recycling to your town. It won't be an instant solution, but it will be worth it. Can you buy one less junky crappy plastic toy your kid won't play with for more than an hour? Do THAT thing. This is just a good idea anyway. We, all of us, have become a very throw-away, materialistic society. We all have so many htings... but do we really need all these things? There are at least four shows on tv that revolve around professional organizers helping people declutter their lives. I did a bit of reading and it seems that the number of professional organizers registered in the United States is also increasing at a fast rate (I apologize for not remembering the source of this reading.) I've been interested in perhaps making a side business of helping people declutter, so that is what led me to reading about this. Can you walk to work one day? This might be hard... but if you can't, can you carpool? Perhaps other eco-concerned people would be interested? If you work varying hours, perhaps it's just a carpool once or twice a week, but it's worth a shot. Eat no meat one day a week? Protein can be found in many food sources. Buy local? This might take research, but you'd be amazed at what gems you can find! Grow a vegetable garden? Even if you don't have a backyard, there are planter boxes in sizes that might allow for small gardens. You may not be able to grow a lot, but a few favorites might be possible. Read the news online instead of getting a paper? And if you do get papers and magazines... recycle! Can you buy used, second hand, eBay, whatever? Most towns and counties have thrift, consignment and charity stores. If it's a distance, carpool with others and make a day of getting all your eco-friendly shopping done (this may also encourage those who are carpooling with you to do likewise!) Can you turn your AC up or your heat down by just a FEW degrees? In CA, they suggest keeping the temperature between 73-73 degrees, depending upon where you live. Check to see what is recommended in your area. When we get a bit chilly, we throw on a sweater. It's no big deal, unless there is a medical reason for particular temperature setting in your home. Can you turn lights of in a room when you are not going to be in it? Did your parents holler "Turn the lights off"?!?! I know mine did! Can you think twice before making spur of the moment purchases that just add up to your personal 'junk pile'? The same concept as not buying a ton of toys junior will only play with for an hour. We have personally stopped all impulse buying. it's tough, but it has simplified our lives so much. We went completely cold turkey. And with the cash savings, we're paying off more in our school loans, putting money away in savings and not having to declutter our home as often. A few weeks ago, we went to an Earth Day Fair. They were passing out this "Green Guide" and it has been so helpful to us. See if you can find one in your area... or do what these people did and get a group of people together of like-mind, do the research and pull together a "Green Guide" of your own. ![]() ![]() Now, as you can see from the front cover of the book, we live in the Los Angeles area. So, yes, we probably have way more options than people who live in smaller, less populated areas. I don't know what it's like to live in a smaller place where many of your neighbors don't share your same environmental concerns (the bushbots don't seem to take the environment too seriously... )Best of luck to everyone! kt

Sat Apr 22nd 2006, 05:40 PM bushfish.org For love of God and Country, or so their little tagline goes.
"If so, then show your love for God, the President, and the USA!" They brought us this sweet little ditty: ![]() "If this country's legislature and judiciary are supposed to reflect the values and beliefs of The People, then send them a message that they are WAY off course!" ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Some of the letters were pretty interesting: From: Bennie B. (San Francisco, CA) Date: May 10, 2005 I've been reading about your site quite a bit today on www.dailykos.com, and clearly some people areupset by this. I personally do not agree with the notion that W is "doing the Lord's work" but I also cannot deny that the same First Amendment that everyone is holding against this site is the SAME amendment that provides you the right to air your opinions (however misguided and uneducated they are). I guess we need to increase education spending in the red states. Peace. From: J Park (New York, NY) Date: Aug 16, 2005 Brilliant concept and design. Although I think it looks much better if you rotate it 90 degrees counter-clockwise. Because, frankly... it looks just like a bomb with our beloved President's name on it. I think we'll adopt your wonderful symbol for our next anti-war campaign. And remember, imitation is purest flattery. Thanks again! From: Mike W (Little Rock, Arkansas) Date: June 7, 2005 I'm so glad I was fortunate enough to be born an Atheist. It's nice to know I have a functioning brain. When I see stuff like this website, it always amazes me that people like you can even manage to get through the day without help. Problem is, you think you are right, but you don't have a clue. America is not a Christian nation. From: Maura B (Tampa, Florida) Date: May 21, 2005 We DO have enough Christian values and beliefs in our governmental institutions; like “IN GOD WE TRUST” on every dollar; bibles swearing in all officials, etc. Therefore, you are not being honest about your goals. As a historian, I must remind you that “good Christians” 1.stole this land from native people and are responsible for their genocide; 2.enslaved Africans that built this nation with their labor at no cost to Christians; 3.and terrorize poor nations with military-violence all over the world. Thank God, we are not all Christians in this nation. And of course, some reich-wing nutjobs: From: Amanda D (Florida) Date: Dec 2, 2005 I'm joining my fellow Floridian Eric G. in showing my love for Jesus, President Bush, and the United States of America! And if we are lucky, Governor Jeb Bush will pick up the torch in 2008 for 8 more years! Thank you!! From: Kelly (Jackson, MS) Date: Sept 19, 2005 Please don't be discouraged by the ugly letters you have received. I'm glad someone has the nerve and wherewithal to do something about what seems to be a dying breed. Keep up the good work. From: Sarah L, (New York, NY) Date: May 3, 2005 "I cannot believe you are suggesting that George W. Bush is the savior!! This country was founded on the belief that Church and State should be kept separate. Why not just respect the founders' wishes and leave well-enough alone?!?!" from the bushfish morans themselves PLEASE NOTE: The BushFish does not suggest that President Bush is Divine. It is intended to represent Christian Republicans who support the President's position on God's role in government. From: Chris P, (Roswell, GA) Date: May 10, 2005 Sarah, President Bush isn't the Savior. But he IS the best chance we have for returning to a society based on morals and traditional family values. And I think that's what the BushFish is saying. For me, it's a sign that I'm a Christian Republican and nothing more. God Bless. Nothing more... that's saying saying it all... IMHO...a "christian" rethuglian and nothing more... not a thinking human being... nothing

Sat Apr 22nd 2006, 03:03 PM I am not perfect. I do try my best to purge. I toss out junk, I recycle, I give a ton of clothes and household items away. I don't buy more than I need. I have some boxes in the closet I should go through. My filing cabinet need to be purged. But all I see here is nothing but foolishness (to quote Niecy Nash http://www.stylenetwork.com/ssms-site/styl... ) This person has a psychological reason for keeping all this stuff that they aren't ready to deal with yet (Helen Buttigeig http://www.neattv.com/home.html ) And they really need to get honest about the need for holding on to all this stuff so they can free themselves and free whatever is holding them from moving on with their lives (http://tlc.discovery.com/fansites/cleanswe... )
Whenever I'm holding on to too much stuff, I watch Buttigeig, or if she's not on, The Clean House or Clean Sweep team and ask myself why I'm holding on to stuff. I always feel much better once the chaos is off my shoulders. I feel sorry that someone is forcing themselves to live like this.

Tue Apr 18th 2006, 09:23 PM to make his insane vote for * seem justified. Clearly, his "leader" is sinking with the ship that is our invasion of Iraq and the destruction of civil rights in this country. And clearly, this is just semantics and boo-hooing because the fact is, there are multiple causalities for an unjustified invasion and that, indeed, there have been countless people over the past several years call rummy incompetent (the latest round is just 6) and any American, no matter if they currently have family in Iraq or not, has a right to dissent against their government. I bet when Clinton was bombing he was all for supporting the troops but not the president and no bombs for Monica. Bet he leaves that out of his little LTTE.
Feel free to use as you wish.

Extremists advocate murder of immigrants, politicians National pro-immigrant marches inspire calls for carnage from radical right by Susy Buchanan and David Holthouse <snip> "All of you who think there's a peaceful solution to these invaders are wrong. We're going to have to start killing these people," neo-Nazi radio host Hal Turner posted to his website the day after 500,000 immigrant rights activists marched through downtown Los Angeles. "I advocate using extreme violence against illegal aliens. Clean your guns. Have plenty of ammunition. Find out where the largest gathering of illegal aliens will be near you. Go to the area well in advance, scope out several places to position yourself and then do what has to be done." <snip> Extremists of many stripes interpreted the widely broadcast images of hundreds of thousands of mostly Latino demonstrators marching in the streets as unmistakable evidence that a long-awaited race war had finally begun. "The bad news is many whites will die," wrote one neo-Nazi on Vanguard News Network. "It is imperative that you make proper connections NOW and form networks of like minded armed whites to defend yourselves... It will be grand. More exciting then the Zombie flicks. If you have a good defense line and lots of ammo the carnage will be orgasmic." ______________________________________________________________________________________________ And can someone explain to me why this guy hasn't been arrested for inciting violence? Didn't you get the Homosexual Agenda memo? Shhhh!!!! It's a secret! I'll have to PM it to you!
