From WCPO-TV:

http://www.wcpo.com/news/local/story.aspx?...

Ivins brother Tom lives in Middletown, about 10 miles from Lebanon. He hasn't talked to Bruce in 20 years, and said nothing to defend his brother.

"It was his own fault, I thought," said Tom Ivins. "What he did, he screwed himself up. He got involved with the wrong people."

http://www.thestandard.com.hk/news_detail....

I found this in "The Standard, China's Business Newspaper". It's a nice human interest piece about a nun who uses shareholder power to get corporations to be ethically responsible and what-not. It's supposed to be a feel-good piece, but it ends on a very sad note, unbeknownst to the Sister, writer, readers, etc. Here's an excerpt of the end of the article:

Last year Heinonen teamed up with community groups to file a shareholder resolution at Synagro Technologies of Houston, the parent company of a sewage plant in the Bronx that had long been the target of some residents' ire for its odor. The proposal, sponsored by the Mercy Investment Program, called on the company to report "at reasonable cost and omitting proprietary information, on environmental, health and safety impacts" of the New York Organic Fertilizer plant.

The response was immediate. Synagro flew in top management for a series of discussions with residents over the past year. Alvin Thomas, Synagro's general counsel who attended the meetings, said Heinonen played a critical role as mediator, supporting residents while also explaining the need to run a business.

Synagro in April was bought out by Carlyle Group, a private equity firm in Washington, and is no longer subject to shareholder resolutions.

Well that'll put a stop to those pesky questions!

Apparently, around the same time the Carlyle Group bought the outfit, the company "volutarily" closed up shop, and now the town is trying to figure out what to do with the "sludge" they left behind.

http://www.newsadvance.com/servlet/Satelli...

Here's a town in Pennsylvania that's trying very hard to keep their sewer sludge out

http://www.republicanherald.com/site/news....

It turns out that this "sludge" is called Biosolids, and here's what it is, according to the EPA

Biosolids are the nutrient-rich organic materials resulting from the treatment of sewage sludge (the name for the solid, semisolid or liquid untreated residue generated during the treatment of domestic sewage in a treatment facility). When treated and processed, sewage sludge becomes biosolids which can be safely recycled and applied as fertilizer to sustainably improve and maintain productive soils and stimulate plant growth.

So you see, it's not cow manure being spread around your corn and wheat, it's people manure, now, that's all the rage. You are what you eat. The Carlyle Group is now feeding us our own shit.

Re: Flourescent replacing Incandescent Bulbs ~ "Fluorescents have a way of washing out color ...Maybe some smart manufacturer will figure out a way to change the look of the light into something that mimics incadescents."
There are already all sorts of different kinds of lighting implements, by 2012 the marketplace will have surely come up with affordable solutions for every flourescent downfall.
Rest in Peace, Thomas Edison and his incandescent bulb. Both served our universe in ways too mind-blowing to measure.

Drugmaker wants law to require STD shot
Women aren't getting this sexually transmitted disease from other women. Why should girls be the only ones forced to get this shot? Why should anyone be forced to, for that matter? What ever happened to informed consent? What are the long-term side effects of this drug?

Shades of the rotavirus vaccine?

Don't accept a $100 bill without checking it VERY CLOSELY
If they're going to keep changing the design every few years, how on earth can a person know what to look for in a fake? Is the real one the one that looks silliest? Is it the two-headed Franklin or the one with the dancing 100s? I, personally, think it's a conspiracy to make it easier to conterfeit.

I am really bummed out about this torture crap. What in the hell is wrong with these people?
I've got an easy list I've been using a lot lately

http://www.hereinreality.com/heads.html

Do it in the daytime for best results.

Last week I sent out an email about Hugo Chavez that said:

"That's called speaking truth to power. You in the media wouldn't recognize it because it doesn't happen in this country very often."

And they read it on CNN a few hours later, but this is what it said:

"That's called speaking truth to power. It doesn't happen in this country very often."

Re: This PT 911 probably will not convince anyone of anything
I've been waiting for five years for John O'Neill to be a household name. Type John O'Neill into Google, and see what comes up. Lots and lots of people will be doing it tomorrow, and finding out all sorts of things they never knew before. John O'Neill was probably the most important 9-11 hero of them all, but his fascinating and heroic story has been hidden and buried by the mainstream media from the very beginning. Now at least millions will know about him.

Plus, this is a badly made movie IMO, too much for dumb right-wingers to follow. Sorry for watching it, had to see "John O'Neill". I will punish Disney indefinitely for this, personally, and God will get them, too. They are idolators, and headed for Doom.

Roon: " ...Plus he had the surgery to remove the lump under his arm, the chemo, the staging of cancer (which included taking bone samples, very painful) ... After all of this, he was required to give himself a shot in the stomach every day.
This is a thing that bothers me, because when you read about this procedure being performed at some hospitals, they tell you that they prefer to sedate, on account of this being such a painful procedure. Then other hospital websites describe the procedure saying, "You will experience some discomfort as the doctor extracts the marrow...."

Why isn't it standard to offer sedation for a procedure that is known to be torturesome? I've heard this described over and over again as being one of the most horrible aspects of cancer treatment, yet it doesn't warrant sedation in most places. I've had moles removed under sedation as a child, I've had wisdom teeth removed under sedation, why on earth would doctors not sedate as a matter of course when knocking holes in people's bones? Did your lover request sedation?

I saw a study done in Iran where, during bone marrow aspirations, they sedated so many kids and didn't sedate so many others. The results showed that the children who underwent sedation had absolute minimal side effects (a few percent exhibited nausea afterward) but otherwise there was no downside or risk with sedating children during bone marrow biopsies and aspirations. So why not always do it? It's bad enough to put adults through that, putting children through it seems unconsionable, and yet it is probably done 1000 times a day.

And was he ever offered EMLA for the shots in the stomach? Why are these things not par for the course?

Sorry, I've needed to rant about that for a long time.

Very happy that your ex-lover beat it, curse cancer and all its ugly faces.

Hi, I would like to see a DU Group for people who are dealing with cancer issues. The procedure for starting a new group is laid out here

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discu...

The gist of it is that if ten people (with stars) respond to this thread saying that they will participate and can agree on a mission statement, then the administrators will consider it.

I propose a Cancer Support Group with the following mission:

To provide support, discussion, information and resources for cancer patients, caretakers, and others interested in the fight against cancer.

Does anyone see a need for this here? Thanks

A divine business plan: Use of (Christian) 'affinity marketing' growing
>>>Some use symbols such as crosses, fish or doves in their ads in the commercial Yellow Pages.

Yes, reducing the message of the Creator (and of the Savior) into little fishes and doves may be idolatry and offensive to the One you claim to worship, but it lets people know that you support Bush and the war.

Evangelicals don't make any effort to hide their idolatry, strangely (while they go about condemning others for breaking the laws of God). They hold their hands on their hearts and give praise to the Star Spangled Banner, they affix plastic "Jesus Fish" to their vehicles and they get all their news from the same company that has given our nation "American Idol", all the while praising warmongers and cursing people who want Peace.
