It's a thread on Obama's denouncement of the booing of the gay solider. The best part is the argument from a guy named Byzantine Basileus who ended up getting banned, and central_va, who reminds me of a couple of my students. One example comment:

"So what do we call atheist supporters of gays in the military? Tell us, do you enjoy an occasional rump ride on the chocolate joy stick?"

And from the guy who got banned:

"I’m not an atheist.

I am supporter of liberty, first and foremost. I am against abortion, I believe in fiscal responsibility, I am against illegal immigration and advocate giving citizenship only to those who follow the proper legal route, I believe the free-market system is the best form of economic organization and that private property is absolute.

Are you willing to cast out a person who believes in such things, just because that person has a different view of homosexuality?"

Washington (CNN) -- I was a strong opponent of same-sex marriage. Fourteen years ago, Andrew Sullivan and I forcefully debated the issue at length online (at a time when online debate was a brand new thing).

Yet I find myself strangely untroubled by New York state's vote to authorize same-sex marriage -- a vote that probably signals that most of "blue" states will follow within the next 10 years.

I don't think I'm alone in my reaction either. Most conservatives have reacted with calm -- if not outright approval -- to New York's dramatic decision.

Why?

The short answer is that the case against same-sex marriage has been tested against reality. The case has not passed its test.
