I wrote OWS on the back of every credit card offer I got and sent back. You just stuff all their crap back in the prepaid envelope and mail it back to them. This is such a great idea, I wish I'd thought of this years ago! Citi Bank, BOA, all the big ones. I bank at a small town bank and have since 1987 but I get this crap all the time from the huge banks. I have no credit cards and never will.

There was a poster here earlier from Delaware who was asking for advice about hurricanes and I gave him/her (I am sorry, I wish I'd paid more attention to whom I was writing) my experience as a Floridian. They said I helped them to feel better and I was just hoping they made it through OK. I know that my fellow DUer, Bonhomme Richard, lost a young family member and my heart is just torn for this young twenty year old woman who lost her life. No one can ever understand what her family is feeling right now, but I am sincerely grieving for her and everyone else who was similarly affected by Irene.

As a 49 year old Floridian, I have been through numerous category 1-5 storms and I can tell you that this storm was way more than I expected for a lower category storm. I had no idea that a category 1 storm could cause so much flooding and damage. Thank God the government took this storm seriously and prevented who knows how many tragedies. I am glad that the American government took this storm seriously enough to warn the citizenry and demand evacuation from areas that could possibly be in Irene's path. And I have to say that I admire all of the elected officials who chose public safety over business concerns. (you know who I mean, and no I don't mean the Democratic ones, that is just to be expected)

Anyway, I was just thinking of all of you unknown people out there who regularly post or read this forum. I don't know who you are or where you are, but I hope you are safe and your families are well. Donate to the red cross or other relief efforts if you can. Say a prayer if yo are so inclined. And if you don't pray, just keep your thoughts and good wishes focused on our DU family, especially toward those who were affected by this storm. And try to remember to be kind to one another, even when we disagree.

Ninety one years ago, women were given the right to vote! Can you believe it has only been 91 years since the 19th amendment to the constitution was ratified? I can't believe there even needed to be an amendment.

My representative (and I use that term very loosely cause he does not represent my views AT ALL.) is the guy who yesterday told a bunch of people at a town hall:

"And by the way, did I mention? They're shooting at us. If you think this job pays too much, with those kinds of risks and cutting me off from my family business, I'll just tell you: This job don't mean that much to me. I had a good life in Panama City."

Can you believe this guy? I called his Tallahassee office and told the lady on the phone that I was pretty upset that Congressman Southerland could say that his job didn't mean that much to him because it meant my life! He represents ME! She tried to tell me that it was taken out of context. I laughed and read her the entire quote. I asked, "Now, how is that taken out of context?" She didn't reply. I told her to tell the congressman if this job didn't' mean that much to him then he could just quit and that I could represent this area way better than he does! And hung up. Man I was pissed! I hope they get a lot of calls about this!
