First of all, with this many members, I don't see cliques or popular kids or kool kidz. I see people who interact with each on a variety of levels. I respond to almost every 'vibe' thread posted (if I see it) even if I've never seen the person before.
People 'connect' here for a variety of reasons. Maybe it's a shared vision in GLBT (which is how I became so friendly with a lot of GLBT DUers) or maybe it's the foodie group, or maybe it's because they've met IRL. I know for me, I've been contac...
And, this is the best gift I've ever gotten.

He's right up there with Skinner, EarlG and Elad and those other few rare posters that simply work perfectly on every level like a Shakespeare play.
I find sad that a lot of people will discount him simply because of his rants. Like all great art, they defies its actual genre by going beyond the conventions and capturing human truths and becoming a parable or prophetic critique or a magnificent mirror that is not afraid to show us who we are.
For all of you who would discount Rabrrrrrr becaus...
When he gave the keynote speech, I had great hope that we were finally going to see an end to the diviseness that has pervaded this country.
Alas, it is not to be.
Some of you may know that in 2006, my husband underwent an emergency quadruple bypass. A surgery which the surgeon himself didn't think would have a happy ending. At the hospital, no one asked me to see any 'papers' or 'identification', it was just assumed, correctly, that we were legally married.
In retelling the situation to t...

post your theory here, I'll forward it on to at least half of them and they'll reply with what a crock of shit it is. Responses guaranteed in no later than 48 hours. Some of them are a bit traumatized, don't ya know.
Fair enough? Why speculate when you can go right to the source? And, to make it even more enticing, I know actual, living, breathing EYEWITNESSES!!!
Now, I know this takes all the fun out of the tinfoil theories, but maybe it will save some time.
Growing up in CT, I had three brothers who were *ahem* aggressive to say the least. They never used slurs like n*** or f*** or dy** because my parents would have killed them, but I digress.
My next door neighbors had three little kids. At the time, I was closer in age to the mom than the kids, so we became friends. One day, their oldest was pushing around the middle one, screaming, "I hate you, you guest", "You're mean, you guest".
Well, we figured out that the child, about 7 or so, had hear...
What will it cost you personally if the GLBT gets complete and total equal rights? Will it cost you your job? Your spouse if you have one? Will it cost you custody of your children?
Because, for me, as a headed toward late middle age straight, married woman, it won't affect me personally at all. I will still be married, as evidenced by the marriages that took place in San Francisco and I will still have my home, my job and my family.
I will still get to volunteer at my children's schools and...
My friends Jen and Rich have a beautiful daughter, Nadilee Rose who has Down Syndrome. She is 10.
When she comes over to my house, which is pretty often because she is just such a delight, she always wants to type. So, I set her up on one of the computers (whichever one I'm not using for work, or the teenager isn't using to IM :eyes: and away she goes.
I bought her a Smith Corona Electronic Typewriter on Ebay and it came last night. (Remember those?)
You guys would have been weeping if you...

After a very grueling week, a quadruple bypass and two cardiac catheterizations, he's home! The surgeon is really pleased with how well he is doing and gets to recuperate at home with his crazy family!

Thank you, DU. You kept me sane these past few weeks! :grouphug:
She was born just prior to the depression to a flower shop owner and his wife. The couple welcomed her into their lives and had her mom's mom live with them to help take care of her. Her mom had lost her own dad at six in the mines and her grandmother had raised her and her brother herself by taking in sewing.
She grew up in New Haven, CT and was an outstanding student in elementary, high school and eventually college. She attended a four year private Catholic girl's school in New Haven on a f...
