We had a permit this time, from 10 to noon. There were no buses, though we expected them again. There were only locals, including the Police Chief, the Sheriff, and many law enforcement officers.
One of them told us their phones, asking them to arrest us, were ringing off the hook. Just because blood did not flow this was still a fascinating happening, so hang a minute and look.
Because we had signs.

We were in a deeply Southern small county whith wonderful antebellum houses full of Republicans, who rule; and where some
people carry guns in their holsters at their waist.
We knew that it was time to pay attention, and that we were going to be thwarted.

We were suddenly informed, as we waited outside the Masonic Picnic area where she was to speak at 10 am, that it had been moved to 12, the time our permit ended.

We knew then we had been deliberately misled, or that they did not know what to do about us.
So we were going to adapt, all we needed was an extension of the permit, right? The time change, after all, was not our fault.
Our organizer left the parking lot where we were gathered, taking the permit with her, to walk to the Police Dept. across the street to get it extended. We waited holding our signs.

As she crossed the street a police woman, who had minutes before examined the permit, said that the permit was now revoked because she had left the parking lot taking it with her, and that we were no longer allowed to gather.

That it was against the law to take the permit away from the site, it would not be re-instated, forget "extended" and we were told we had to put away all the signs right now.
She made an old man in our group put away a sign that only said:
I'm proud to be an American. Can you see his anger?

I watched the police officers huddle combing the permit for ways to disband us further, and they came up with many invented reasons and we ended up not even being allowed to stand together even without signs, we were now congregating they said, and had to disband. Not only that, we had children there under 18, and that was against the rules as well.

In the meantime a couple of people, who looked related, arrived and you will see their car under their picture.

The police could not, though, forbid us to walk down to the bleachers, and sit down like the citizens we are and listen to our representative speak.
Two of us were by now so dispirited and rattled, that sitting their with the gun toting Republicans was more than they could bear, and they left.

Ms. Foxx, who had been forwarned that the Democrats had arrived, spoke with almost no political overtones, except for affirming that we live in the greatest country on earth. She mostly spoke about the joy of summer and gardening, and picking and cooking a mess of beans, and frying some squash and serving it to her husband. She thanked the veterans who were assembled in their Masonic Lodge picnic shelter, and thanked us for electing her to serve in Washington.
Like hell I did.

There was one little mishap, when our organizer walked up to her afterwards, and introduced herself as the head of the Chair person of the Democratic Party of Davie County, Virginia backed away and turned so abruptly she ALMOST, but saved by a trusty Veteran, fell off the stage.

I did not get a shot of that.
Can't have everything. I would not give anything for having witnessed the cops struggling for ever new reasons to revoke the permit.
A danse macabre.
