The Republican Party has finally failed to be a political automatic default button for this country.
It's about freaking time that the American people did not fall for the okey-doke. For the last 28 years, that's been their whole game plan. That somehow, it's in the best interest of ordinary citizens to slit their own throats in the voting booth, by installing oligarchs and their cronies, who wrap themselves in a gauze of God, Guns, Guts, Gametes and Gays. That despite every bit of proof to the opposite, they are the party that a naturally conservative American nation would automatically gravitate to. Of course, that's the main part on their okey-doke strategy; the truth is that every thing that they profess to stand for, they are in fact, diametrically opposed. The key to understanding Republicans is knowing that they are the "Against" Party. They fool Americans into ignoring the real issues in their lives by casting attention on what they're supposed to be opposed to, rather than what they are supposed to be for. It's done by distorting a particular issue, turning it around and smearing Democrats with it. Tools to divide and conquer the American electorate. We see it all the time. And up to this recent election, for the most part, Americans have kept falling for the same old crap to their own detriment. They claim to be conservatives, and were they to follow a purely classic definition they actually wouldn't be too bad. Patriotic, conserving the land through conservation, or letting Americans live their lives without government interference, or being or being fiscally responsible (thus making lower taxes a naturally occurring state), or being responsible in general. These are merely a few things of the many that they've failed to live up to as so-called conservatives. The actual picture is quite clear. I'll give you one particular example, which is Abortion. Abortion is a medical procedure, that if Americans would actually focus on doing the things that would prevent it from being a form of birth control, it would be relegated to the level of appendectomies or kidney surgery. All we have to do is follow the recommendations of pro-choice advocates; common sense and appropriate sex education, safe, readily available and affordable forms of contraception, such as access to RU-486, the "morning after pill", available and viable prenatal care, especially for women who choose to have children and just generally a true conservative attitude that dictates that the individual is the best person to run their own life. Unlike John McCain's air quotes, deriding the health of a mother as some phony baloney cover for the "Abortion industry", it really is about preserving the health of women, whose lives would be in danger without a concerted effort by organizations like Planned Parenthood and NARAL. Let me be clear, no one in this country is "pro-abortion", except for Republicans as another wedge issue. They are the ones who would suffer politically, if under the circumstances I've outlined, the number of first term abortions dropped to an imperceptible level. All late term abortions are medical procedures to save the life of the mother. Only by distorting the actual picture, like the way they misrepresent when life begins or when a fetus becomes a person, they muddle the picture and force abortion to become a moral, religious and emotional issue rather than a medical one. Case in point, the recent effort in Colorado to grant fetuses the status of personhood. A ridiculous notion to label cells that are dividing on a intrauterine wall the same legal status as you, your Uncle Larry or your Cousin Marcia. It had the possibility, if enacted in to law, to classify a fetus as a viable person in the census, or impel a charge of manslaughter for a miscarriage. The penchant for the Republican Party to be against things as wedge issues has driven them into the category of utterly insane. The people of Colorado, thank God, did not fall for the okey-doke. Outside of Abortion, they have huge trick bag of goodies for smearing the truth with ugly lies. Racists code words, hate for the poor and gays, cultural superiority and isolationism, fear and intimidation, outright lies, utter hypocrisy, and the is goes on and on. In the wake of Democratic Party victories in the recent election, they've tried to drive home the completely untrue notion that America is a "Center-right" nation. To insist that the Democrats and President Barack Obama do not have a "mandate" to pursue their policies is a way that Republicans are furthering their distortions. Only a fool would believe that the Democrats, by dint of their victories, have to maintain the programs and policies of their Republican predecessors in a self-evident environment of "Change". This is where the media becomes complicit with the Republicans to maintain their facade, by advancing the notion that it's a good idea for Barack Obama to keep some of Bush's cabinet cronies on the payroll instead of showing them the door. According to the Republicans, an Obama Administration would hurt itself and the country by deferring away from the Republican default, instead of pursuing its own agenda. This is the tool that the Republicans are using to try to kneecap President Obama before he's even inaugurated. Frankly, I find it appalling that anyone in the media is deferring to any Republican opinion in the wake of the repudiation of republicanism in this last election. The Republicans are utter failures, in every sense of the word. They haven't changed their tune and to credit any of their delusional meanderings with a grain of credibility is nothing except the pinnacle of intellectual dishonesty. Such is the very heart of the Republican Party. A tool to shift power and money out of the hands and pockets of the majority and into the coffers of the ultra-rich. They are the first to cry foul, "class warfare", when class warfare is their bread and butter. Class warfare that they have masked with a facade of patriotism, an utterly cynical exercise to damage the American ideal for their own benefit. This is their greatest fear, to turn their default off. To reverse the standard by which wealth and power trickles up, instead of down. To preserve liberty, instead to subverting it under a gaze of fear and intimidation. To stand by the rule of law, instead of an arbitrary rule of power. To pursue necessary peace, instead of elective war. Off and on for the last twenty-eight years, this nation has been at the beck and call of barbarians who have sought to make their standard the only one to follow. Now while the worm has not completely turned, as evidenced by the passage of anti-gay proposals like California's Proposition 8, the body politic is poised to slay the faux power of Republican ideology once and for all. The Reagan Revolution, which heralded their artificial default, is dead. Killed by the self-immolation of greed, incompetence and malfeasance. It was an artificial default because it could not meet the standard imposed by true American idealism, Constitutional mandate, common sense and basic decency. I, for one, am thankful to see this happen in my lifetime. I've never believed that the Republicans were the one true Default party, because to me they've always been so very wrong in so many ways. What I'm also happy to see is that America has finally corrected herself... But, if I've ever doubted that she would, I'm ashamed to admit it. The answer is clear as a bell.
The American people have roundly condemned the Republicans and their experimentations, which promoted crony capitalism, fascism, militarism, bigotry, fear mongering, class warfare and lawlessness, dressed up with the buzzword of "Conservatism". With their so called "conservatism" they have robbed and bankrupt this country and it was clear that more of the same is no answer for the problems that they've cursed us with. To turn America around, we'll need exceptional people to lead us away from the failures, the reactionary fear mongering and cowering under the boots of the ruling class. Change is required. In the Black community, we have a notion that a black man has to be twice as good as his white counterpart in order to be considered his equal. The notion of Black exceptionalism has been part of the sports world since the days of Joe Louis and Jackie Robinson and has driven deep and dynamic changes there. It's no accident that today, there are so many people of color competing at the highest levels of sports competition. And overall, today's athletes are bigger, faster and stronger than their counterparts of the past. Also, because those better athletes of the past have raised the standard, it now takes better athletes of all ethnicities to compete at the highest levels of competition. As a reaction to racism, the legacy of exceptionalism has changed the landscape. The world of American politics has seen this notion reach its own zenith, with the election of Barack Obama to the Presidency. Without regard to his race, Barack Obama is a truly exceptional human being. I posit that his race shouldn't even be a consideration other than a trivial footnote that he will be the first African-American President of the United States. I am not diminishing the importance of this milestone, but clearly based upon what I have observed from his strategy, running as the first black man to be president was not his modus operandi. What I think that people should consider as his most salient aspects and advantages, are his exceptional intelligence, his ability to communicate expertly, his skills at organizing efficiently, his willingness to transform the landscape of the American body politic to service the needs of all its citizens instead of the privileged few and the way he has inspired so many people to see beyond their petty considerations and work towards a higher ideal. His success has been exemplified by the way he has surpassed all expectations of a "black candidate", by pushing aside the entrenched power of the Clinton political machine and the superlative way he has waged his presidential campaign to achieve his staggering victory. Barack Obama clearly represents a potential evolutionary step forward, in terms of the American statesman. He has raised the standard by which everyone in the arena needs compete successfully. However, in spite of running the best campaign seen in quite a long time, the true test for Barack Obama and his exceptionalism will be how he functions as Head of State, Commander-in-Chief and Chief Executive of the United States of America. Also, how effectively he employs the Bully Pulpit. In the coming years, we will see if he can be the transformational leader that is required to change the direction of the country. We will see if his message of change and hope will continue to inspire the Congress, which his coat tails have driven greater Democratic gains and the People, whose support he truly needs. We will see if his qualities are up to the job at hand. He is challenged to be successful, in spite of the way that the Republicans and their right wing supporters have distorted the political landscape and corrupted the body politic. Challenges yet unknown are impending as well. But, the true measure of this leader is not how he will avoid adversity, but how he prevails, helps the country to prevail and inspires leadership in spite of adversity. I have complete confidence that he lead us all to prevail in the times ahead. ...Because I'm a 47 year old liberal man of color
Barack Obama will be the defacto standard bearer for an American. And guess what? He's another 47 year old liberal man of color. It's not just a coincidence, it's a fact. When I've traveled around the world, the first thing that people in other countries would identify me as is an AMERICAN. Not a black American, Afro-American, or as some motherfucker once screamed out of the window of a car in 1975, a "Nigger". What is coming is a moment that will shatter the myth that America is somehow the bastion of White, Anglo-Saxon preeminence with a permanent multi-cultural sub-strata. What is coming is the vindication that we are all Americans and equals, at least in the cultural sense of the word. However in America, there are other vindications that are required. The fight must still continue: For non-heterosexual Americans, we must vindicate their orientations and their love for their partners as the equal of heteros. For women, we must vindicate the power that they are entitled for control over their own bodies and their equal worth as employees. For non-Christians, we must vindicate that everyone's personal belief or non-belief is equal under law, as long as one belief does not impede the beliefs of others. For the financially disadvantaged, we must reverse the deference to just the richest Americans and institute mechanisms that raise all boats instead of the just biggest, fanciest yachts. We must vindicate peace and justice. We must vindicate the rule of law. We must vindicate the protection of our environment. We must vindicate all Americans, not just any specific demographic. In all places of our nation, we must vindicate Americans in small towns, big cities and everywhere else in between. Once we do this, it'll be a clear direction to walk, to respect ourselves and as the most influential nation at this time and respect for everyone else on this planet. I see beyond the fact that a person of color will obtain the highest office of the land. I see the potential for vindication of all Americans, our ideals and our sacred trusts. Apply the same standard for selecting Barack Obama as President of the United States for what must be accomplished: Because, it's the Right Thing To Do. ![]() This is our boy, Justin. As you can see, he's hard at work as chairman of the Michigan Federation of College Republicans. He is, of course, a long time John McCain supporter. Justin is very somber when addressing the most important issues facing ordinary Americans http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXv80cWyfsQ Also, during his tenure, he worked pretty damn hard to sow unity among Michigan's Republicans: Earlier this afternoon, Justin Zatkoff was at the MSU v UofM Romney tailgate in East Lansing. Why would a staunch McCain hack be at this event? To root for Romney? Or MSU? Neither are likely. To pass out flyer's saying that Michigan Republican Party Chairman Saul Anuzis is corrupt. Along with slinging mud on Anuzis he also made corruption accusations against MRP officer, Gerry Mason. He didn't even have the backbone to pass out the flyer, so he set them on a table, and they were promptly thrown away. The flyer claims that there is some sort of grand Romney conspiracy to get Dave Drwencke elected College Republican Chair. Currently Dave is involved in some legal proceedings stemming from inappropriate internet posts in regards to his former girlfriend two years ago. When they broke up, the girlfriend went after him. This is where Justin Zatkoff comes into the picture. Seizing on the concept of the politics of personal destruction he decided to spin this big elaborate story. In it he says that Gerry Mason is somehow involved in a conspiracy, because Dave has retained him as counsel in his case. He goes even further to say that Saul is backing Dave... and they link them all together through Mitt Romney. They call it the "Triangle of Corruption," between Dave Drwencke, Gerry Mason, and Saul Anuzis. What is the purpose of this flyer? 1) To get the beaten down McCain minority to help maintain Justin Zatkoff's position? 2) To embarrass Dave. What this will actually do: 1) Piss off the people that they are accusing of being corrupt. 2) Delay the inevitable Zatkoff departure. When Zatkoff was confronted about the flyer, he made a half hearted attempt at denial saying that "it must have been those crazy Ron Paul supporters." Matt Hall was also spotted with Zatkoff for most of the tailgating. Hall adamantly denies any knowledge of the flyer and condemned it's use to me earlier this afternoon via phone. This flyer has Justin Zatkoffs fingerprints all over it. Not only has he threatened to sue Saul Anuzis in the past, he has attacked Republican legislators calling them "Republicans in Name Only" on the College Republican website, and his Executive Director has actually filed the paperwork to recall Republican State Senator Gerald VanWoerkom. http://bconservatives.blogspot.com/2007/11... Also, Justin is the epitome of Republican inspired good governance: Justin Zatkoff implicated in campaign finance violations… By punch bowl | April 1, 2008 The conservative student newsapaper, the Michigan Review, has released a nine-page article detailing Justin Zatkoff’s allegedly divisive tenure chairman of the Michigan Federation of College Republicans. The article begins by saying: In an election year, Michigan’s umbrella organization of College Republicans-The Michigan Federation of College Republicans (MFCR)-has effectively crumbled, reflecting the controversial tenure of U-M student Justin Zatkoff as the organization’s chairman. After transferring from Oakland University to the University of Michigan in early 2007, an ambitious Zatkoff embarked on a path to power that has been marked by strong-arm tactics, rancorous presidential politics, and, critics say, potential violations of Michigan campaign finance law http://crnation.com/2008/04/01/breaking-ju... / You would think that with leadership skills like his, Justin would be a rising star on the National College Republican scene. And you would be wrong... The College Republicans rewarded his efforts by canning is silly ass: Justin Zatkoff Fired, Steals Campaign Literature Jane Coaston Issue date: 9/30/08 Section: News Justin Zatkoff, chair of the Michigan Federation of College Republicans, has been fired from his position within the Republican National Committee's "Victory '08" Campaign as of October 3rd. Zatkoff was fired after John McCain pulled his campaign out of Michigan, and then attempted to steal 300,000 pieces of campaign literature from Michigan campaign headquarters. In an email sent to supporters, Zatkoff alleged that he intended to "distribute" the literature himself: "I know that I told you I would get your county's allotment of the 300,000 pieces of the John McCain literature over to your HQ last night and this morning, but a funny thing happened. Sad actually. As you know, that literature has been sitting in Farmington since last week and hasn't gone out to anyone! This literature does us no good sitting in the office collecting dust when it could be out in the hands of our grassroots activists! In accordance with our arrangements with the County and McCain grassroots leaders, like you, we were going to get it out all over the state as mentioned and had a plan to get it everywhere in the state in 48 hours - most places by this morning (or last night!), and even had direction from Jennifer Hallowell, the Regional Campaign Manager of the McCain Campaign, to do so." In the email, Zatkoff alleged that he received a phone call from the executive chair of the Michigan GOP, ordering him to stop taking campaign literature or risk criminal charges. Larry Ward, Political Director of the Michigan GOP, took the lead in denouncing Zatkoff's actions in an email sent Tuesday afternoon: " Today, you may have received an email from a disgruntled former employee, Justin Zatkoff that is an example of game-playing that is distracting from our efforts this fall. It has been leaked to the press and being circulated by the same old group of troublemakers that are more interested in intra-party political silliness than helping Republicans win general elections...We will prosecute anyone who attempts to take valuable collateral or equipment that belongs to the Republican party or the victory program and inhibits our effort to achieve victory in November." According to an anonymous source within Victory '08, the campaign materials have been returned. http://media.www.michiganreview.com/media/... Just, not the kind of guy to go down easy, has threatened to go all lawyerly despite the fact that he is no longer attached with his former associates: An Update on Justin Zatkoff Jane Coaston Issue date: 9/15/08 Section: News Justin Zatkoff, who faced recent controversy as a result of a Michigan Review piece published on April 1st which drew attention to unorthodox voting tactics at the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference, a threatened lawsuit against the University of Michigan chapter of the College Republicans, and the ultimate departure of several university chapters from the Michigan Federation of College Republicans, has been selected as regional field director of the Michigan Victory Center by the Republican National Committee. Zatkoff, a long-time McCain supporter prior to his nomination as the Republican candidate for the Presidency, will be working with Ann Arbor and Washtenaw-county Republicans in an effort to challenge the Democratic hegemony in the area. He will also be working to help elect other Republicans to notable seats, including the 52nd district in Saline and the Michigan Supreme Court. Many of those supported, including Eric Lielbriedis of Saline, are strong fiscal conservatives running on a platform of low taxes and greater freedoms for small business owners. The position is paid for by the Republican National Committee as part of its efforts to battle Barack Obama and the Democratic Party in Michigan. Zatkoff, a former leader within the Michigan Federation of College Republicans, is not a member of the University's chapter of College Republicans. According to Brady Smith, Chair of the College Republicans, Justin Zatkoff no longer fulfills membership requirements as he is no longer a student in the University. http://media.www.michiganreview.com/media/... Now, despite Justin's aforementioned trials and travails, he is most notorious for an incident quite similar to the plight of fellow College Republican, Ashley Todd. Miss Todd should take note, that's how it's done, baby! Two years ago, Justin claimed that he was being persecuted for his vigorous defense of the unborn. Yes, this guy: ![]() The claim made by Justin that he was attacked by either "militant leftists" or "a homosexual rights group": By: TRUTH CAUCUS · 09/27/2006 · AIM: crnctruthcaucus · Section: Michigan HATE CRIME COLLEGE REPUBLICAN ALLEGEDLY BEATEN BY LIBERAL THUGS This is disturbing. Justin Zatkoff, the executive director of the Michigan College Republicans, was brutally beaten after leaving a party in Ann Arbor on Saturday night. The Oakland University junior from Bloomfield Hills, Mich. was rumored to be targeted by militant leftist groups. Zatkoff, pictured above, did not know his attacker, and no money was stolen. A source close to Zatkoff reports: Justin may have been 1. randomly attacked (but not robbed??), 2. attacked by BAMN (well known for violence and strong in Ann Arbor), or 3. attacked by a homosexual rights group (Justin received an ‘odd/threatening’ email from a gay rights group about a day before the attack.) The mainstream press has not picked up the story. A report from the Michigan College Republicans earlier this week said: Justin Zatkoff, Executive Director for the MFCRs, was attacked leaving a party in Ann Arbor Saturday night. Justin had not seen the attacker before, and had no opportunity to defend himself. Justin is well-known for being a conservative and ‘in-your-face’ Republican, and there is quite a bit of speculation that he was targeted by leftist groups. The side of his face was crushed, and he will need to undergo major surgery to rebuild it. http://www.truthcaucus.com/2006/09/27/hate... Justin, as I said before, is a fighter. So, of course he's engaged in continuing struggle for what's good and right about America: ![]() Oakland U student representative persecuted for conservative speech BREAKING NEWS UPDATE FOR THOSE REFERRED HERE: 9/28/2006 Please click the main blog link or this story for Zarko Research updates on the beating of Zatkoff. The now most-recent update WITH EXCLUSIVE QUOTATIONS FROM ZATKOFF ABOUT THE BEATING, is here. On the campus of Oakland University, here in Oakland County, Michigan, Justin Zatkoff has developed quite a reputation. Last fall the University threatened to disclipline him for videotaping liberal protestors and posting clips of that video, edited to music and images of the destruction of fetuses, to the internet. When Oakland U realized it couldn't legally discipline him for speech, there is no question the offended students and others were not happy. Recently, Zatkoff earned an appointment to the student legislature due to vacacancies. In Justice-Alito-like hearings, Zatkoff underwent over an hour of questions and statements by others complaining about his abortion video. Nonetheless, he was confirmed. Now an unnamed student (protected by "confidentiality" as an alleged "victim" in the complaint process), has filed a complaint with the legislature against Zatkoff for "verbal assault." Essentially, the student congress could impeach and remove him from office based on these charges. Although this is not a First Amendment issue since the student congress is separate from the University administration and is a political body operating within its Constitution, this demonstrates the dangerous atmosphere against free speech on campuses today. I anticipate there will be more on this story. http://www.chetlyzarko.com/b2evolution/ind... I'm sure you know where this is going. The real story of the alleged assault on Justin turned out to be quite different from what he depicted: Wonkette has the goods on him: Ann Arbor student and official Fark photoshop subject Justin Zatkoff wasn't actually beaten silly by leftists, blacks, militant homosexuals, pansies, hippies or violinists. He was clobbered by his own "friends," who hate him. That's what police in Ann Arbor have finally revealed about last weekend's pathetic incident, which a Michigan website frequented by campus conservatives claimed was some kind of retribution for his political views. But no, it was just retribution for him being a drunken asshole around his high-school buddies. Next martyr, please! From the local Ann Arbor paper: While at a party that began last Saturday night, police said Zatkoff picked a fight with some of his friends, and got punched in the eye. Police interviewed Zatkoff at a hospital the next day and he didn't recall what happened. People who were at the party told police Zatkoff had too much to drink, said Ann Arbor police Lt. Mike Logghe. "We interviewed the guy who punched him,'' said Logghe. "He admitted to punching him. He said he was a friend of his from high school.'' http://www.dailykos.com/story/2006/9/30/23... Exactly seven years and two weeks ago, the United States suffered the largest and most sophisticated terrorist attack in its history. Two thousand, nine hundred, ninety-nine people died, along with the nineteen terrorists and twenty-four people listed as missing. I'm not going to debate the merits of LIHOP vs. MIHOP; I'm relying on Occam's Razor, in that, "All other things being equal, the simplest solution is the best." I'm assuming that the attack was conducted by al-Qaeda.
Ostensibly, al-Qaeda consists of radical Sunnis, mostly Saudis and Egyptians and led by Osama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawarhiri. They consider themselves defenders of Islam and its holy lands against Western infidels and their islamic puppets. However, an indisputable aspect of our problems with al-Qaeda run terrorism lies in the supply Middle East oil. That oil makes up a tremendous part of our energy supply. Swirling around that nexus of oil, the US and al-Qaeda are locked in a deadly struggle that pits our need for security and energy against their desire to be free of American cultural, military and financial influence. Our footprint in the Middle East is gargantuan and this country has invested vast amounts of blood and treasure in this effort. The US has fought wars over this oil, we've garrisoned US troops in Saudi Arabia; home of the world's largest oil reserves. Troops that were attacked at Anbar Towers by a deadly truck bomb. The US deploys warships in the Persian Gulf to insure the safe transport of the commodity, and this country is now occupying Iraq, which now has become clear as day that the invasion was nothing more than a mission to control that country's oil resources for exploitation by the International Oil Cartel. Countless lives have been affected and lost, the seas and lands scarred, commerce altered and the human psyche cracked in ways that my own limited understanding finds incalculable. Oil, America and al-Qaeda are inextricably connected. Al-Qaeda has made it's mission the use of oil as a tool in the war against America. They intend to use our dependence on oil to attack our economy. It's our undeniable vulnerability. Imagine what the world would be like without this tragic nexus. Imagine the lives not lost. Instead, we have dependence and all the consequences that come with it. Despite the impending onslaught of Peak Oil, the terrorist threat, exploitation and speculation in the commodities market, America's inadequate domestic supply and the vulnerability of oil facilities to extreme weather conditions, the US has not invested sufficient time, capital and resources to ween itself from oil dependence and develop sufficient sources of alternative energy. After all, our very security lies in the balance and one would think that we would have tried harder. In weighing the cost benefit of developing an energy infrastructure with a diminished dependence on the oil economy, I posit that we have a designed addiction to the fossil fuel. Since the vulnerability was clearly demonstrated during the oil crisis of the 1970's, this country has squandered precious time and money in order to maintain this status quo. There is obviously a vast degree of capital at stake and powerful entities occupying the halls of power who demand fealty to the way things are. It's come to my attention, time and time again, that partisan politics is a primary tool to maintain oil dependence, in the US and subsequently the world. One party is the focal point with a symbiotic relationship to the international oil cartels. That party is, of course, the Republican Party. It's so connected that it's even fancifully named the "Grand Oil Party." There are many instances that show this relationship, from the policies that the GOP have sponsored to maintain oil dependence, to the way GOP pols and oil execs interact in a very obscene and incestuous manner. I'd be here all day with even a smidgen of examples. But the knowledge is so common that we should stipulate it, shall we? Most notably, I found out quite by accident that former GOP Speaker of the House and current General Chairman of the oil lobby American Solutions, Newt Gingrich, hired a troupe of child entertainers to fake a homegrown viral activist campaign named "Youth for Oil." American Solutions is a front group bankrolled by the same billionaires who helped bring George W. Bush to power. Armed with oil lobby provided talking points, manufactured tee shirts and placards, web space and orchestrated photo ops with GOP big wigs, such as presidential candidate John McCain and Alaska Senator Ted Stevens, the group appears to be a beard for Gincrich's "Drill Here, Drill Now" movement. "Drill Here, Drill Now" was the theme behind the GOP's staged protest during the recent Congressional recess. Despite the over one million signatures provided on a petition for increased domestic drilling to Congress, it becomes quite clear that it's the Oil lobby which is behind the campaign and it's not descended from any grass roots demand. During the recent Republican National Convention, GOPAC Chairman Michael Steele inspired a chant of "drill baby, drill" in the audience of true believers, who just happened to wave crudely drawn placards just at the time he made his point. All carefully orchestrated, of course. The GOP and the Oil lobby are literally joined at the hip like siamese twins. Despite these and other efforts by the GOP to create demand for domestic oil drilling in areas currently under moratorium, it's been proven by sheer mathematics, that domestic drilling won't even come close to giving the US energy independence or relief from today's high fuel prices. The entire GOP campaign for oil drilling is awash in a sea of lies; from threats that the Chinese are planning to drill off the coast of Cuba to the impact that drilling for this oil would have on oil dependence. It's a political tool to hold Sen Barack Obama and the Democrats feet to the fire of fake outrage. In the most exact terms, it's a cynical and shameless ploy. Most of all and quite clearly, the GOP has sacrificed the security of the United States on the altar of big oil. They have chosen the wealth of the Oil lobby against the best interests of the American people and international security. They are primarily responsible for the wealth squandered in international oil exploitation. On their hands, is the spilt blood of American servicemen and servicewomen and innocent victims of our Middle East wars. They care more about their current position as guard dogs of Big Oil than their oaths to uphold the Constitution No law too large or small, no truth too universal, or sacred institution too hallowed is inviolate enough to prevent the GOP from desecration in their drive to keep America hooked up to oil. It's indescribable to think of these people as Americans, much less, human beings. I say without reservation that the Republican Party is our greatest domestic threat and we'll do ourselves the greatest of favors by putting them squarely OUT of power. ![]() Here's Sen. They are either crooks or crook enablers... Simple as that Next, you have your sanctimonious, hypocritical, true believers. They may be in it for the money, (Gold purity rings and diamond encrusted Bibles do not grow on trees, you know) but money is not their main objective. They are misogynistic, do-as-I-say-and-not-as-I-do control freaks. God has given them a hallowed duty; and they are ready to kill, maim and destroy any heathen who rejects the love of the Almighty and his plan for this great God-fearing nation, with a wrath so powerful it would make dogs and cats sleep together. HALLELUJAH! They aren't to the manor born, but they do know how they get the money whores at the top of the food chain to give them a seat at the table. What they bring are the teeming, slobbering masses of "values voters", under a banner of God, Guns, Gays and Gametes, who think that they are the last line of defense against the unholy incarnation of Satan (Insert echo here), who are basically people that they wouldn't want within ten feet of their Mega-church. The list is much too long to mention, of course. Life for the unborn? Of course. Then post partum and all bets are off, with the death penalty becoming God's gift to a law abiding nation. These are people who are pissed off that someone, somewhere and somehow is having a good time. And we can't have that in this country. It's not written in the Bible; wailing and gnashing of teeth: Yes! But, a good time? That's sinful. These are people who end up dead with a pork chop lodged in their aorta, or sent to the pokey because they were caught trying to give a wet willie and a reach around to a small boy... while snorting meth off of his ass. These breed-happy, fetus worshipers are the last people that you would want anywhere near a school board, a court bench, or your own children. Lastly, you have the base, the rank and file, the hoi polloi, the salt of the Earth and the common man (Deh wimmens are in the kitchen). I call these people, the idiots. They are the shock troops, poised to strike at the beck and call of their Bible-thumping masters. Sheep who wouldn't know their asses from a hole in the ground even if it were shown to them on a diagram. They are too busy to give a fuck that the world is coming down around their heads, because their heads are safely and securely stuffed up their own asses. Their world view has been nicely compartmentalized into easily digestible, mouth-sized chunks, ready for consumption anytime they are in danger of having an original thought. They have no idea that they always vote against their own self-interests, to the benefit of the fetus junkies and the alien lizards, and they don't care. To conceive of this would waste too many precious neurons that are slated to be sacrificed on the altar of beer. As long as they get to keep their guns, gas guzzlers and Lee Greenwood -- Hell, all is right with the world! Fox News is their bread and their staff of life and Rush Limbaugh is their clarion call. Most of the time, they are decent people. Unfortunately, they don't understand that they provide the grist for the mill of indecency. Illegal wars, police state tactics, the massive upward redistribution of wealth, and just about every anti-progressive trait that we have in this country exists because these misguided people don't understand what they are the support base. They are paralyzed by the fear that their masters have instilled in them, driven like livestock to create the impetus for Overlord control. Like a wave of incredulous backwardness, they drive the body politic straight into the emergency room. Unfortunately, they are half of the electorate. Despite their penchant for mind-boggling cluelessness, these are the people who stand the most to gain if they are willing to drop their blinders and move away from the Lizards and Fetus fiends. I may be rough on them, but I can be fair. In recent months, a lot of them have smartened up and proceeded to do the right thing, by moving OUT of the Republican sphere of influence. There are a lot of them who have gone to stepping. These people the people who should give us hope for a better tomorrow. Since you've decided to waste YOUR precious time by attempting to cause havoc in a forum where you're clearly not welcome, please allow me to explain to you why this is not a good idea.
I'm sorry that I have to use a lot of big words that aren't spelled phonetically, but I speak English... A language to which I'm sure that you're not quite accustomed. First, and I sorry that I have to be the one to break this to you, but you are an idiot. It's a fact, please deal with it.. Unfortunately, a sure sign of idiocy is a chronic lack of self awareness. As, in you are unaware that your idiocy has ill-equipped you for making a convincing argument why you are right and we are wrong, or even why we should allow you to remain beyond the short interval that you'll be around to sow discord. But informing you of your woeful condition is something that has to be done. Again, I'm sorry that you had to find out like this. But the truth hurts, please try to work through the pain. OK, Next... I understand that after a busy day of masturbating to the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity you have to sign up here in order to achieve orgasm. I need to warn you that, in doing this, you're putting yourself precariously in the position of needing a new keyboard. Ejaculate and electronics don't mix. I suggest that start pricing replacement keyboards, or at least one of those nifty plastic sheets for the times that you have these urges. And as a precaution, I suggest that you leave the comfort of your mom's basement and go out to find a girl. Girls are all over the place, and I hope that you're able to find one with enough intestinal fortitude to allow you to touch her without money exchanging hands. Of course, I hope that you play safe. And lastly, because I know that you don't have too much time to spend on this site when you do decide out yourself like a marmot popping out of a hole, I need to point out that there is a cure for all of your conditions of which you have so graciously decided to share with the rest of us. It's called being a decent human being. It doesn't require an extensive education, which you've obviously rejected. It doesn't require a religious conversion, because decency is a universal quality. And it doesn't cost any money, of which I'm sure that you value above everything else. All it does require is that you treat people with kindness, consideration and respect. That's it, simple as that. I know that you lack that capacity right now, but hopefully, as you mature and open your mind, you will change. And if you do decide to become a decent human being, you can take it from me, MrScorpio, that you are welcome back. But in the meantime, enjoy your tombstone. You've earned it. Yeah, you, the one reading a Democratic web site
I'm wondering... What's with all this talk about him being a POW 40 years ago? That's nice and all, but how is that going to fix the economy today? I know that paid the price, but hell, he's a US senator, for God sakes...that's not good enough? And another thing, wasn't he part of the same crew that got us all in this mess to begin with? Are we supposed to trust the same people to fix this? Man, that sounds crazy. I mean, really. Where I come from, if you screw up and keep screwing up after getting a lot of benefit of the doubt you'll eventually get canned. And these people have had eight long years to prove that they don't know what they're doing. Even today, McCain admits that the economy isn't his strong suit. What else doesn't he know? And Palin knows even less than he does about national and international issues. Wow. That's just piss poor, don't you think? And speaking Sarah Palin, what the hell does she know? Excuse me, but I highly doubt that they discuss field dressing moose at Davros, NATO and the G-8 summit. They tend to talk about international politics, trade, defense, economics and stuff like that. When I last heard, she doesn't know anything about any of it. Have you heard? Sorry, I guess not, because she hasn't done any interviews yet. (Boning up on Wikipedia....) Oh, Unions... I guess that McCain and Palin don't like 'em. I tell ya, that kind of attitude is going to go over like hotcakes here in, uh... Michigan. Working folks really hate unions here. PSYCH!!! Oh, yeah, what's this I hear about Palin comparing herself with a pit bull wearing lipstick? Is she saying that she's a bitch? Jeez, I hope not. Another thing... McCain is a old dude that has had cancer four times... And if he dies in office, he'll hand off the rest of our lives to someone who doesn't know anything about anything and sounds suspiciously like THE CHURCH LADY. Is this the kind of decisions he'll make as president? Half ass and a dollar short? Excuse me, but that doesn't sound like a vote of confidence. Lookee here... You're reading a Democratic site for a good reason, I guess. Maybe you're concerned that you're about to make a bad choice and you're trying to see why you should change sides. Believe it or not, that's a pretty smart way to go about this. Getting a different angle. I don't blame you... McCain's a pretty risky proposition and he's getting even riskier by the day. I tell you what. Go ahead and dig. Not just here, but even places that aren't as pro-Obama as we are. Ask questions, demand answers. Even about Obama. Get informed. And if you find out, for real, that McCain isn't as up to snuff as you currently think he is, come on back over here and talk to us. We'll be all ears. God bless! It's the perfect "The Emperor has no clothes" scenario.
But it's not McCain that the "subjects" are kowtowing to, it's their ideology... their dogmatic superstructure. Everyone circling around the McCain camp, from the Fox News talking heads to the RNC paid cheerleaders are staking their reputations on the apathy and ignorance of the American electorate. The GOP dependence on NEOCON leadership has resulted in many of the greatest failures our country has ever faced, and with their change in direction, they were that close to completely alienating their fundamentalist Christian base. But now the ship has righted itself. McCain has to walk a fine line of sublimating the results of the NEOCON Bush/Cheney foreign policy environment into one that closely resembles a direction wanted by the fundie base. Sort of like turning waste water into boxed wine. To do this, he has to create a facade. That's where Gov. Palin comes in. Her selection marked a "return" to "traditional values" and a departure from the secular policies which indicated a rejection of the fundamentalist religiosity. McCain/Palin is a manifestation of the GOP's utter failure as a governing entity. Rather than proffering a team that has a well established record of competence and confidence, they are using the time-honored political tools of smoke and mirrors and sleight of hand. In other words, when one takes a look at the Republican ticket, anyone not faked out by the pandering to fundamentalism or is unwilling to play politics, one will see and declare that there is no "there" there. The GOP has reverted to a back to basics mode, in order energize the faithful. This is one tactic, the "face". The "hand" will now work behind the scenes to undermine the legitimacy of the political process in order to subvert the will of people, of whom are quite dissatisfied with the country's direction under Republican stewardship. So, for the next week, as speaker after speaker at the RNC tries to convince the American people that the last eight horrible years were merely a figment of their imaginations, think about this: When it comes to things that really matters, these people are utter failures. With the opportunity of giving this country something to truly believe in, with the candidacy of Barack Obama and Joe Biden, it will finally allow people who want to end their suspension of disbelief and finally change the direction of the country to one for the better. It's been said that adults outgrow their belief in fairy tales. I don't feel that way. I think adults just exchange one set of fantasies that they believe in for another.
You have your Chupacabras, Space aliens, Yetis, Loch Ness Monsters and Big Feet, or not, because they're fairy tales. Adults with learned degrees will try to prove the existence of these adult fairy tales using their hard earned cash, scientific research equipment, interns and Leonard Nimoy. And despite proof to the contrary, these people will swear up and down that there is flesh to their fantasies. That same dynamic is also applied to politics. We see all the time. Republican fairy tale adherents will swear up and down the the RNC believes in family values, a strong and vibrant economy, support for the military and the rule of law. These fairy tales so strong in their minds that they are willing to overlook every act that the Republicans commit to undermine all of these stated intentions. When you see a Bush fan blurting out Georgie is a Godly man of integrity that understands the plight of the common American, you can bet dollars to donuts that you've found a sucker for the fairy tales of the RNC. Since this knife cuts both ways, we have our own fairy tales... Such as all Democrats are against the Death Penalty. I'm against the death penalty, and I can take this position because my political compass is to the left of Gandhi and I'm NOT a politician. I'm surprised by the reaction of some of our fellow DUers to the statement by Barack Obama that he's not happy with the Supreme Court's ruling to declare the Death Penalty for child rapists unconstitutional. But you have to realize that Barack is vying to rule the franchise. And in the franchise, the Death Penalty is a fact, not a fairy tale. What we all must understand is that, Obama positions will not mirror every position of his supporters, like myself. This is a reality that I'm willing to concede because I feel that, despite our differences, he is the better choice to take charge of the franchise. The key to supporting Obama is not a catch and release tactic that will allow him to operate in a vacuum once he takes office, but instead to establish a support base, a constituency, that will have an influence on his policy decisions when enough voices need to be heard. I'm pretty much sick of this adult version of childish behavior that thinks a tantrum is the only recourse whenever that person's fairy tales aren't codified. To this, all I can say is "Grow Up!" ![]() She was 92 years old. She graduated cum laude from Howard at the age of 23 and spent 25 years as a teacher and counselor in the Detroit Public School system. Unfortunately, she suffered from Alzheimer's and walked out of the assisted living facility where she stayed and passed away from exposure to the freezing Michigan temperature. She'll be buried this Saturday. As far as legal action is concerned, I'm reserving any further information at this time. Rest In Peace, Aunt Vunies. I recently did a little look around the internet tubes and saw that my initial rant "Let's face facts, shall we? America Sucks" is now the darling of pissed off right wingers, both far and wide! Excellent, I got their attention.
Not surprisingly, many of them were quite taken aback by my layman's use of hyperbole, metaphors and reverse psychology. Much so, in fact, that they didn't understand the purpose behind it at all. From the title to the final words, it was meant to be a provocative piece and I have to say... I achieved my objective. Just Google the title and you'll see what I mean. However, to say that I was not surprised by the completely unsophisticated and reactionary response... But, what else would one expect from a bunch of people who actually think that George W. Bush is doing a great job as president? Not much else, right? For example, I had made a hyperbolic reference to the so-called "Twenty million citizens from the great state of Wisconsin". Many of the right wing types, quite astutely, pointed out that Wisconsin actually contains a substantially lower number of residents. I'm quite happy to stipulate this. But, I should point out that the actual number to residents in the aforementioned state a very dynamic one and is impossible to know, when taking into account any given amount of live births, deaths and transits across the state's open borders. So, for the sake of those who have shown a tendency towards counting the deck chairs on a sinking Titanic in any given situation, I ask that they substitute this following formula for that offending passage: X = The Actual Number of Residents in the Great State of Wisconsin at any given time I hope that clears up that particular dilemma. Unfortunately, not everyone here on DU, got my point either. A lot of discussion ensued, some feelings might have gotten bruised and generally a lot of hot blood coursed through more than a few veins. Others, however, understood exactly my motives and replied indicating that. Such is always the nature of this forum. Again, I thank everyone, regardless of their stated position, for their active participation. The purpose behind this particular post is to define the participant's own personal status in relationship to the theme of this series. It's was made very clear to me that many respondents took offense to my assertion regarding their own level of suckitude and the overall level of suckiness throughout this great republic of ours. Please allow me again to explain my approach towards my assertions. I'll try to make this as simple as I can. Think of the drive towards suckification in America as like a switch. On one side, you have "Complete Unsuckification" and to its complete polar opposite, you have "Total Suckification" . Somewhere in between you have a slew of competing interests that are constantly driving the level of suckiture either up on down in any given time. For example, The Dred Scott Decision drives up that level and the subsequent passages of the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments to the U.S. Constitution drives it down. With the rise of sweatshop culture, it went up and with the laws that mandated better working conditions it went down. There are many examples that can be cited, I hope that you get my point. Although I didn't elaborate this, my approach needs to seen in terms similar to Newton's laws of Motion. The First law says: Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it. The more the forces of suckiness apply their pressure in the absence of countermining forces, the level rises. Sitting fat, dumb and happy while the Real ID Act goes flying through the halls of power is a perfect demonstration of this approach. Newton's Second Law says: The relationship between an object's mass m, its acceleration a, and the applied force F is F = ma . Acceleration and force are vectors (as indicated by their symbols being displayed in bold font); in this law the direction of the force vector is the same as the direction of the acceleration vector. An example of this law's application would be successful mass action and civil disobedience by a greater number of pissed off citizens against the level of suckfication (The Object) against opposing forces. The Third Law says: For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Basically, its a natural state for the forces for and against Suckosity to constantly oppose each other. Clear as mud, right? Thought so! Now the questionnaire. I hope that you'll indulge me with this. I have ten questions that will determine one's personal level of suckitude AND, when taken in view of the representative group, determines its aggregate amount. I have a poll for that as well. By revealing your results, you can definitively defend your own assertions, one way or the other. I hope to goodness that our lurking Right Wing types indulge in it as well. Here we go: 1. Which is the best way to obtain great wealth? a. By paying one's employees fair wages, investing in positive growth and striving for a positive impact on the environment b. By paying the lowest possible wages, buying up businesses to wreck and sell them off, and polluting the environment to save a buck 2. How should one react to a protest march for fair wages and benefits? a. By joining it. b. By standing on the side protesting against it with waving flags and signs full of very harsh language. 3. How should one view cultural diversity? a. By accepting it as a fact. b. By finding as many ways possible to reject it. 4. Which is the best way to hold one's leaders accountable? a. By demanding that they not only adhere to the rule of law, but its spirit as well. b. By deferring to their exalted position, especially if their political and cultural views mirror your own. 5. Which is the best approach towards other sovereign nations? a. By respecting their sovereignty in accordance with the rules of International Law. b. By impelling them to bend to the will of US policies, regardless of the rules of International law, by all covert and overt means. 6. Which is the best way to educate young people? a. By affording them every tool to be active, free thinking and productive citizens. b. By instilling in them the need to be obedient and accepting of the status quo in any given situation. 7. Which is a better way to reach a stated goal? a. Through cooperation, reciprocation and mutual respect. b. By doing whatever the most powerful person says should be done. 8. What is "Fair and Balanced"? a. A mask for propaganda. b. The truth, as long as it agrees with one's own views. 9. What is more important to achieve? a. A wealthy society. b. As many wealthy individuals as possible. 10. Which is the best way to protect the blessings of liberty? a. Through insistence that it is shared with all. b. Through insistence that it is shared with only the most worthy. All "a." answers denote Unsuckitude and all "b." answers denote Suckification. Tally them up to determine your own degree of Suckosity and let us know with the poll! Enjoy!
