Tuesday's inauguration of Florida Gov. Rick Scott was a gift that kept on giving. Notable for its lack of austerity at a time where other newly-minted lawmakers are avoiding showy displays of pomp in deference to their constituents' overall lack of economic health, the Scott inaugural "rivaled that of a presidential event, with the press having to cope with limited access," according to Steve Bousquet, reporting for the Miami Herald:

Florida's new governor was the star of the most security-conscious inauguration in recent memory, with elaborate Washington-style flourishes that amplified Scott's unfamiliarity with the small informal capital city he now calls home.

For two days, Scott was trailed by a cadre of dark-suited men who resembled law enforcement agents, but were not. They wore red lapel buttons and silver ear pieces, checking visitors in search of proper credentials at a dozen events.

Reporters did manage to catch up with the woman who briefly heckled Scott during the inaugural speech. Her basic complaint appears to be the fact that Scott would prefer to blow off his singular achievement as a human being -- the record-setting fraud penalty that Columbia/HCA had to pay after systematically bilking Medicare under Scott's leadership.

Dumb the State of the Union down to a second-grade reading-level speech (multi-clause sentences are a no-go, they typically get angry and start yelling at you), make all future legislation not filled with legal jargon but rather make it a big coloring book (so Republicans can color in the impoverished families being denied unemployment insurance, or color in New York’s firefighters and cops dying of mesothelioma being deprived of healthcare, or color in the planet being destroyed, or color in billions of workers in third world nations being abused thanks to our free trade, et cetera, et cetera), and lastly, convert all national debt statistics into second grade math, so that the repugs can finally understand how ADDING $700,000,000,000 in tax cuts to the rich DOESN’T lower the debt.

So, Wikileaks releases countless confidential reports of the atrocities of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and nearly as many revealing diplomatic cables detailing the dark side of America’s diplomatic relations. Meanwhile, truthers complain that no documents have been released that prove their baseless conspiracy claims. Thus, according to their logic, Assange and WikiLeaks MUST be part of today's CoTD’s cover-up. The thought that maybe, just maybe, there ARE no documents confirming the conspiracy theory because it’s not real does NOT even cross their mind.

Here's an analogy, the Wikileaks release does not address the NSA's covert brigade of sprarkly purple unicorns that poop in New York's city parks and spy on people. Why? Because IT IS NOT REAL.THAT'S WHY. IT'S FUCKING IMAGINARY. To this, a unicorn-truther would reply that Wikileaks is in bed with the NSA, and that the recent release of diplomatic cables only served to distract us from the unicorn crisis.

All of a sudden, Wikileaks and Assange, are denounced by troofers as right-wing hacks, or accessories to BushCo/Illuminati/Bilderberg/Mossad/CIA/(insert conspirator here), as would be anyone that either calls them out on, or contradicts their wacky, unfounded bullshit.

The precarious situation in which the US will soon find itself can be looked at as a trade-off of sorts.


Option one: Have the US turn over Cheney to Nigeria, if and when a red notice is issued; and let them prosecute Assange.


Option two: Have the US not cooperate with Interpol and ignore their red notice, not hand over Cheney, and thus Assange will not face prosecution in the US.

In the wake of the Obama Administration’s reaction to the latest WikiLeaks release, I’ve realized something.

If and when Mr. Assange suddenly dies in a “car crash,” or mysteriously takes too many pain medications, et cetera: Bush, Rove, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, they will all be smiling and laughing, and sleeping sound. Why?

Because they can rest assured that this is a country that dares not prosecute the members of an administration who lied us into an illegal, unconscionable war, but rather threatens to hang those who seek to end it.

Stay strong, Mr. Assange and Pfc. Bradley Manning. Together, we can end the slaughter, we can do it.
