OMAHA, Neb. -- Two Millard parents have found themselves in trouble over the truancy law.

Vaughn and Teri Crowell said they were just trying to explain why their son had missed so much school, but the next thing they knew, they were in jail.

The Crowells’ 17-year-old son suffers from anxiety and depression. As a result, he's missed 20 days of school this year.

But the couple said when they tried to explain the situation in court Thursday, Judge Elizabeth Crnkovich sent them to jail and put their son in the care of the state.
