ABC15 - Everything Arizona

TUCSON, AZ - U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' office has posted photos on Facebook of staffers attending today's Tucson Rodeo Parade, including two staff members injured in last month's shootings.

District Director Ron Barber is seen in one photo sitting in a wheelchair with his wife Nancy standing beside him along with Giffords staff member Pam Simon and Tucson Mayor Bob Walkup with his wife, Beth.

A third photo shows the congresswoman's staff just before the parade begins. Staff members are seen in other photos as they participate in the annual parade that began at 9 a.m.

Ron Barber and Pam Simon were both injured in the January 8 shooting outside a Tucson-area Safeway along with 11 others, including Giffords. Six people were killed that day, including a federal judge and a 9-year-old girl

Wells Fargo to pay Citi $100 million over Wachovia

NEW YORK | Fri Nov 19, 2010 2:07pm EST

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Wells Fargo & Co (WFC.N) will pay Citigroup Inc (C.N) $100 million to settle a legal dispute over the contentious 2008 purchase of Wachovia Corp, closing another chapter of the receding financial crisis, the companies said on Friday.
The agreement, which the companies said would settle all claims related to the dispute, resolves a long-running feud stemming from the crisis.

Citigroup agreed in September 2008 to buy much of Charlotte, North Carolina-based Wachovia for $2.16 billion, with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp sharing in losses on Wachovia loans. The subsequent higher offer by San Francisco- based Wells Fargo for all of Wachovia did not require FDIC support.

The failed bid was one of the last straws for the then-struggling Citigroup, which soon was forced to accept three U.S. government bailouts in 2008 and 2009. By buying Wachovia, Citigroup would have been able to expand its relatively small U.S. retail branch network to compete with larger rivals Bank of America Corp (BAC.N) and JPMorgan Chase & Co (JPM.N).

In July 2009, a federal judge rejected Citigroup's argument that Wachovia lacked the authority to accept Wells Fargo's offer, but Citigroup continued to seek damages

Clinton, Ahead of Caucasus visit, Decries Russian Occupation of Georgian Areas

David Gollust
03 July 2010

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is in the Azerbaijani capital, Baku at the start of a brief Caucasus visit that will also take her to Armenia and Georgia. Saturday in Poland she called for an end to what she termed the Russian occupation of breakaway Georgian regions South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

Clinton has been defending the Obama administration's effort to rebuild ties with Russia on this five-nation tour of countries which had been part of, or allied with, the former Soviet Union.

But she says differences with Moscow will continue despite the re-set of relations, and she is making clear this includes the continuing Russian military presence in Abkhazia and South Ossetia after the brief Russia-Georgia war in 2008.

The United States holds that the Georgian military move into South Ossetia that started the war was a mistake.

Debate over banks repaying bailout money early

James Temple, Chronicle Staff Writer
The San Francisco Chronicle
Friday, March 13, 2009

(03-12) 18:22 PDT -- Wells Fargo & Co. may be looking to pay back the $25 billion in federal bailout money it received last fall ahead of schedule, as the rules imposed on financial institutions that accepted funds turn increasingly austere, industry analysts say.

Chief Executive Officer John Stumpf signaled the possibility last week, when the San Francisco bank announced it was cutting its common stock dividend by 85 percent.

Until we can see some signs of an economic bottom, I doubt that you'd see them aggressively pursue a strategy to repay," he said. But analyst Bart Narter said it could happen "sooner than later," if Wells can secure the necessary permission, because the government keeps unilaterally altering the conditions.

Wells Fargo was one of nine major institutions that agreed to participate in the TARP program before it was unveiled in October, but only did so under government pressure, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.

AMD: MacBook issues giving graphics bad rap

by Brooke Crothers
March 11, 2009 9:45 AM PDT
nanotech: the circuits blog @ CNET.com

Advanced Micro Devices worries that lingering issues--both real and speculative--with Apple MacBooks are giving laptop graphics a black eye.

In a phone interview Tuesday, Stan Ossias, director of marketing, mobile graphics, at AMD, began by asserting that my March 11 post "overstated" the case about heat and the instability of graphics processors in laptops and that some readers may interpret heat issues too broadly.

"In the case of Apple's product, I don't know what happened with Nvidia's GPU but we'd like to avoid having the negative aspects taint the entire industry," he said. (GPU stands for graphics processing unit.)

"I know that when Nvidia announced (in October of last year) publicly that it was recalling or having to rework some of its products and they took a big write-down, we had to address concerns from our customers that we were not also experiencing packaging failures because of the overheating and design flaws that they were experiencing in their product line," he said. "So, we basically had to go and calm down a lot of our customers and say, look, this is not something that's inherent to our technology, it's not something that you have to expect from any GPU."

Report: Wells Fargo and U.S. Bank safest in U.S.

Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal
Friday, March 6, 2009, 11:19am CST | Modified: Friday, March 6, 2009, 11:43am

Wells Fargo & Co. and U.S. Bancorp are the two safest banks in America, according to an analysis of the world's banks.

According to Global Finance, which will publish its analysis, “World’s 50 Safest Banks” in its April issue, international banks dominate the rankings, which show the effects of the subprime mortgage meltdown and credit crisis brought on by large Wall Street players. San Francisco-based Wells Fargo is the top-rated U.S. bank at No. 21. European banks now dominate the rankings, with only four U.S. banks among the listing.

Wells Fargo (NYSE: WFC) is followed by US Bancorp (NYSE:USB) at No. 26, The Bank of New York Mellon (NYSE:BK) at No. 35 and JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE:JPM) — which has merged with Washington Mutual Inc. — at No. 47.

The listings compare long-term credit ratings and other performance measurements and assets.

Wells Fargo Balance Sheet (For the period ending 12-31-08

Wells Fargo Income Statement (For the period ending 12-31-08)

I can not believe the rabid frenzy over This.

Wells Fargo makes a hefty profit. They pay their taxes (Nearly 1.9 billion on 2008 earnings.) They did not want TARP money. They did not need TARP money. Their bank, unlike a certain "C" bank who will go nameless...

It was forced on the by Paulson. The US Government is the main beneficiary, not Wells Fargo. Wells Fargo paying $371.5 million {in dividends} to government

If they want to spend some of their profits on a Sales and Service Conference for its employees in Las Vegas, then who gives a flying fuck?

Madeleine Joan Blaustein (commonly credited as Maddie Blaustein, formerly credited as Addie Blaustein and Adam Blaustein) (October 9, 1960 - December 11, 2008) was a transgender voice actress born in Long Island, New York, United States.

Blaustein was, until her death, the voice of Sartorius in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX. She was also most known as the voices of Meowth in Pokémon (Episodes 29-Season 8) and Solomon Muto (Sugoroku Mutou) from Yu-Gi-Oh! second series anime. She was also Chef Kawasaki from Kirby: Right Back At Ya!, Dr. Kureha in One Piece and Arngrim, Lawfer and Lezard in Valkyrie Profile. She was also a comic book writer and artist, having worked for both Marvel Comics<1> and Milestone Comics, and an animation director. Most recently, she served as Creative Director for the recently cancelled Weekly World News. Video game localization coordinator and translator Jeremy Blaustein is her brother.

She provided the voice of Margarete in the English language version of the PlayStation 2 game Shadow Hearts. Most notable is her great variety of voices. In Valkyrie Profile, for example, she was able to perform a very "tough", deep masculine voice (Arngrim), as well as a high-class one (Lawfer) and a suitable and somewhat androgynous voice of a mad scientist/sorcerer (Lezard Valeth). In Shadow Hearts, Margarete is voiced in a deep, feminine, and seductive style. During the 2004 Democratic Party primaries, she appeared as Sméagol on the Mike Malloy Show, announcing a satirical presidential bid.<2> She was also the most recent voice actor for E-123 Omega of the Sonic the Hedgehog series.

Under the pseudonym Kendra Bancroft, Maddie was one of the most talented and accomplished 3D content creators in the Second Life platform, where she was a very eager participant since 2004, and earned a reputation as an innovative, competent, and very reliable 3D modeller in the many communities where she participated. Her experience as an activist in the transgendered community helped her out to organise and support groups of people in Second Life.

On December 11, 2008, Maddie Blaustein died in her sleep after a short illness. She was 48.<3>

Her final role will be The Toucans in Animalia, as part of the rumor. She might have practiced voicing them before her death. Graeme Base (the author of Animalia) would say "I'm concerned about The Toucans. This will be final role for Maddie Blaustein. She died on December 11th. Everyone at 4Kids Entertainment are going to miss her." If The Toucans will still appear for the rest of the TV show, she would be replaced by Kevin Kolack.

INQUIRER confirms Apple Macbook Pros have Nvidia bad bump material

Bumpgate We break out the electron microscope

By Charlie Demerjian: Tuesday, 09 December 2008, 11:20 AM

WHEN THE NEW Macbooks came out a few weeks ago, Nvidia stated that the chips they provided to Apple did not contain the proverbial 'bad bumps'. Unfortunately for them, an investigation lead by The Inquirer proves that not to be the case.

Background
If you recall, Nvidia has been in the spotlight all summer for failing chips due to bad materials and thermal stress. The end result is that bumps, the tiny balls of solder that hold a chip to the green printed circuit board it sits on, crack, and the computer it is in dies. If you want the full technical analysis, read this article (and parts 2 and 3).

Nvidia took a $200 million charge over the problem in July, but the firm refuses to support its customers by saying which parts are defective, and what computers they were sold in. You can get some clue from message boards, with Dell, HP, and Apple being prominent victims.

Nvidia says that the problem only affects notebooks, HP says otherwise. Nvidia assures manufacturers that their machines won't have problems, manufacturers say otherwise.

TNT has been playing "Pretty Woman" all weekend.

If you haven't seen the movie, it involves extravagant shopping sprees using someone else's credit card.

Coincidence?

I think not.
