Lehman declares win

RACINE — In a crucial election that swings control of the state Senate to the Democrats, Racine County appeared to have ousted current state Sen. Van Wanggaard Tuesday.

Former state Sen. John Lehman, D-Racine led state incumbent Republican Sen. Van Wanggaard, with 36,255 votes to Wanggaard's 35,476 votes, according to unofficial results with all precincts reporting.

Three Republicans won state Senate races Tuesday in Wisconsin, but with Lehman winning Racine County, the Democrats will take control of the Senate and gain the 17-16 majority.

Lehman declared victory shortly before 1 a.m.

“First of all, this victory is solely dedicated to all the hardworking volunteers who have put us over the top tonight," he stated in a news release. "Tonight, the citizens of Racine County voted for checks and balances in our state legislature. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the state senate.”

occupy des moines find locked doors at romney office


Des Moines police today arrested a total of 10 protesters at Mitt Romney’s campaign offices and a Wells Fargo branch office.

The protesters, all part of the Occupy Des Moines movement, demanded that Romney and Wells Fargo release their tax returns and that Romney return money donated to his 2012 presidential campaign from Wells Fargo PAC and Wells Fargo employees.

Romney told reporters in Clinton today that he has no plans to release his income-tax returns or lists of people who are bundling donations for him. Romney, who is a multi-millionaire former businessman, said he would do what he’s legally required to do. He suggested he might consider disclosing more financial information in the future.

The protests began at 2 p.m. at the Romney office, in the 2800 block of Ingersoll Avenue. Office workers had locked the doors of the campaign office before protesters arrived.

The protesters began banging on the glass windows demanding to be let into to the building. Some played musical instruments. Others built a small cardboard funnel connecting Romney’s office with a nearby Wells Fargo office.

Those arrested complied peacefully with police.

although one is 77 yrs old a Rev and from Lansing of all places but most were from IA. all I can say is. okay screw the first amendment.. but at least it's not a felony like the folks up in WI on Walkers side are doing.

Brittany Murphy's mother claims toxic mold found in her daughter's Hollywood home is to blame for both Brittany and her son-in-law's Simon Monjack's deaths.

Brittany died of pneumonia in 2009 and just months later her husband suffered the same fate.

TMZ reports Brittany's mother Sharon Murphy claims the people who built the house are to blame for the mold that caused their illnesses. In a new lawsuit, Sharon alleges she was misled by her lawyers and tricked into giving up her rights to sue the builders for wrongful death.

certainly would make sense. That mold can be scary stuff. Sometimes wonder about our house. We were rarely sick. Now I get lung infections and get migraines that get worse every year. To be reminded of her death though. Still hurts. Liked her in The Prophecy 2 before her career took off. Just was too cute to go away.. hurts everytime I'm reminded... like now..

Etta James in 'final stages of leukemia,' says manager

EW has confirmed that iconic soul singer Etta James’s health has taken a turn for the worst. It’s been a year of medical hardship for 73-year-old James. According to Lupe De Leon, her manager of 30 years, “Etta has a terminal illness. She’s in the final stages of leukemia. She has also been diagnosed with dementia and Hepatitis C. She’s in a home right now and mostly sleeps. She is under the care of a live-in doctor from Riverside Community Hospital and two others who have placed her on oxygen. Her husband is with her 24 hours a day, and her sons visit regularly. We’re all very sad. We’re just waiting.”

Find myself with a smile reading stuff on DU2, but I go to DU3 it seems the country is going down the tubes (cue george carlin joke on tubes)

Old DU2 had better responses and some with at least some small hint of humor. On DU3 very hard except me to find that. Maybe nobody's depressed on DU3. When your depressed, you have to try and at least use a little humor or you'd go worse than depressed. People on DU3 are like a rope thats being twisted in knots. at some point someone might get hurt in real life. Things look like shit on the side of depression so odd things make one laugh. Didn't actually start writing a journal till this year. Keeps me busy. And busy is good. problem is. Parents are low on $$ and thats causing more problems. Why?? cause VA sucks. Sure dad is ultra right wing crazy. But that doesn't mean I don't support him. Even though he usually doesn't support me. Oh how many times has he told me to go to hell or die. One time he encouraged me to kill myself. Yeah lost alot of blood for that. (cutting) I'm not suicidal. Depression doesn't hurt. So the only way it would is using a scissors on my legs which after that one , is what I did. really haven't done that since. But if DU2 was like DU3 is now, it might have been worse. I come in here to see a glimpse of hope and where there's a laugh there's hope. Hence why people at OWS protests try to keep a smile. in the face of such violence...

Did I enter a Rush or Billo site without knowing it. Never ran into that problem before. Shutting off comments because it might offend someone. had to do with atheists and I'd said innocently atheists and Christians (I am sorta one) do the same thing. Force their beliefs down others throats. and can't even reply to defend myself Someone later asked me if I sought that closed board out. Heck no. I stay far away from the atheist board because it's not my forte. it was on the front page. But I'm more pissed off I can't defend myself. Or explain anything. that jury thing needs to go... it's anti american.

Heck I have no idea what a closed board is.. So why was it even on the front page??

and although I guess they've been told to move to the UNI Campus, they are staying in Overman Park.

Tiny town like this and we get tents. Groovy.



CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

You may have seen their tents set up at Overman Park in Cedar Falls. Friday night, Occupy Cedar Valley took their message to the busy corner of University Avenue and Main Street. Occupy Cedar Valley held a candlelight vigil to "Mourn the victims of corporate greed."

"The victims are numerous, and there are many of us. And that's what makes up the 99%," said Chris Schwartz, one organizer of the OCV movement.

But the commotion they made Friday night is very different from what one would see at any given time at their base camp in Overman Park. A handful of protesters sign up to "occupy" a small group of tents each night.......

Can't believe this hasn't been posted somewhere, but most people in Northern Iowa have their eyes glued to a couple of Bald Eagles on cam with 3 eggs. Which is now just 1. 2 are currently gray and furry. One just hatched this morning. (beware of the dead rabbit nearby. I swear it's not the easter bunny either.

Spent a large chunk of my life in WI. Probably have voted for Dave Obey, certainly did for Russ Feingold more than once. Always in the summer go round the square for the flea markets etc.. always had people sitting on the capitol lawn and steps doing homework and relaxing. It is their house. Why they are forcing the states biz outside I don't know. The Gov doesn't live there.

Rather miss the old tavern in Middleton "The Unicorn" where one of the original owners died of aids so rocked then. Best Split brats with swiss cheese I ever had. State Street Brats is close.
