... the demographically younger, and more liberal voters stayed home.

For me, this was a warning bell. I intend to figure out how I can increase the local turnout in my own district next year.

Leave the politics of blame and victimhood to the experts -- the GOP.

The "Marriage" part is a tag, a direction-finder, an ornament -- and optional. Equality IS equality.

We lost a little one we were supposed to win -- Corzine -- and won a HUGE one we had given up on -- NY-23.

Garamendi (CA) is also on his way to a big win and a seat in Washington.

In the Obama Referendum, he took a few hits, but after two weeks of predicted disaster, it's still a TKO for BHO.

Tug at the heartstrings.

Most people can't empathize with same-sex fucking. But hearing that two people deeply in love have been denied the right to marry is a different story.

And being forbidden to be with one's life partner when death is near is also an atrocity that gets to people. It's up to us to make sure every such tear-jerking story is kept in circulation around the water coolers of America. We have no Uncle Tom's Cabin -- yet.

There is a very effective "baseball bat" against religion-engineered bigotry. It's the simple notion of fairness. Let the bigots try to sell the idea that God is a Klansman.

We were plunging into a full-on depression a year ago. Now, we are in a deep, painful recession.

But it's still a recession. Yet recessions don't destroy most of the wealth of a nation ans generations of the people who built that wealth.

We got REALLY "lucky". Imagine what a financial and social collapse would have done with people like Glenn Beck and "El Rushbo" at the bullhorns.

There are not as many mean old people as you think -- but they get stoked up on rage, and go out and vote. So WE have to get the vote out. Liberals stayed home everywhere except in the NY-23 race.

And we have to "take it to" the culture warriors. Combative angry ranting won't work; Limbaugh's and Beck's and Hoffman's and Palin's rant-populism show us that a "new paradigm" is called for. I am sure that there are hundreds of things we could do that are overlooking. Sure, we're all disappointed and angry, but we only have 51 weeks to get ready for the NEXT election.

It ain't over yet.

I was a developer of Microsoft applications (MSOffice) for several years.

Switching to the Linux/Gnu/BSD/Posix/Free/Libre/Open-Source world was like that scene in The Wizard of Oz, after the house lands, and when Dorothy opens the door.

The learning curve for mastering a new platform, an entire philosophy of development, the tool-chain system of working, and a couple of new languages is steep for a code monkey, far steeper than for casual users.

But I will NEVER go back.

It's not enough to wait until the next third-grader is buggered in the Sacristy -- we have to be pro-active NOW in bringing down the New Pharisees.

As much as I admire Dawkins and Harris and the late Marilyn Murray O'Hair, we need some serious popular-level agitation aimed at the Separation of Church and Deity. There is a crying need to discredit institutional religion. Once we've de-churched society, can work on the atheism at our leisure.

The liberal/younger crowd stayed home. We lost. Solution: make sure our movement and its campaigning apparatus starts getting the vote out in off-year and ho-hum elections.

The fight ain't over. It's only getting started.

The universities -- mainly grad students -- do the work. ALL of it.

The tenured professors take the academic credit.

Then the patents are sold off at pennies on the dollar.

Such a deal!

But at least we have excellent medical technology to make the lives of the rich a little healthier.

If it proves to be less expensive, which may very well be that case, it is a medical and financial (for the public) improvement.

Not all biotech is being used for nefarious purposes. In fact, nearly none is. The primary evil in this world is greed.

I underestimated how many younger voters would stay home -- and Christie won. Marriage equality isn't faring too well in Maine. I may be one for four tonight.

Nate Silver's job is safe.

Meanwhile, it looks like Owens is doing unexpectedly well. 75% of the vote is in, and it's 49-46. But Hoffman also inoculated himself in the event of a loss by claiming Acorn was infiltrating. That seems to be GOP SOP these days, to accuse the Democrats of bringing in Hispanics or Blacks or Communists to "steal" the vote -- in every close election.

If Hoffman loses, the only upset the Republicans will have to crow about is Chris Christie, a socially liberal Republican who will piss off the wet tea bag crowd. They will again be forced into months of Colemanizing in support of a man who gave the Party a swift kick in the nuts. (And there are so many GOP nuts!)

I'm just crestfallen that so many younger voters stayed home. If it takes a charismatic candidate running a feel-good campaign to bring them out, we'll be up to our ass in elephants again in no time.

Hoffman will be feted as the Republican New Man, the Great White Hope, slayer of Acorn, and herald of the insurgency of independent-thinking non-conformists who want all Americans to obey their One True Philosophy -- The Way of the Wet Tea Bag.
