Rush has used the metaphor of rape several dozen times in the last two years, and the frequency has been increasing. Beck has been making a number of assertions that Obama is "raping" the USA over the last few months, including Roman Polanski jokes. "Bending over" and "grabbing one's ankles" is the favored phrasing for the activity.
The American Id has been speaking loudly for several years now. For a couple of years, ass, spanking, and sadism metaphors were dominant, no pun intended. Now, it's crossed over into rape.
I'm not reaching -- the rhetorical atmosphere has been filled with (political) rapes and rumors of rapes, most of it from the Right. It's sad that it made it to SNL, though I doubt that any of the writers gave it much thought. Historically, body-assault (and poison, and disease) metaphors are well known indicators of rising inclinations of fascism; they are warning bells, in a way.
Don't take my word for it; just turn your attention to it. I'm sure it will become the topic of punditly concern fairly soon.
I wonder why so many people are so quick to depict our first African American president as a rapist.
I'm a fan of SNL, Fred Armisen, and Will Forte (and Joseph Gordon-Levitt), and loved the "2012 Re-Cut", as well as Al Gore's too-brief spots. But they picked up the poison apple with this particular intro, and bit right into it.
$100 million will only BEGIN the job which has gone neglected for too long.
I don't understand why there has been such a dog pile on Landrieu and Lincoln, who have some very dicy local circumstances to work through. It's Baucus and Nelson we should be flogging.
