Wild night for me.

Got Burned out on an RPG (Dragon Age), drank a couple of beers, slipped a Blu-Ray in and fell asleep in front of the TV.

Two hours later the shit hit the fan...

Or, the asshole hit the pole.

I live on a curve. Of a street. Accidents happen here quite often. This one was different.

I awoke to a huge boom and the sounds of my battery back-up's "beep-beep."

Went to the window and there were patches of fire on my lawn and the neighbor's lawn. Without much thinking, I grabbed my cell while putting on my jacket and shoes and called 911. I opened the front door and saw a late model pick-up which had its front end turned into a paper ball.

I was thinking I was going to be pulling a dead body from the wreckage as I sprinted toward the vehicle.

THEN I tripped over the wires.

THEN, in the back of my mind, I realized where the fires had come from. I used the light from my cell phone's screen to step over and around what seemed like a dozen wires.

Then, I saw the wreck and approached. There was no one else there yet and I went closer, afraid of what I would see. When I got there, I found a guy in his early twenties with a bloody face.

He handed me his cell phone and said : "Would you talk to my sister and get me out of here?"

I talked to his sister and started to try and figure out how to get him out of the wreck when someone screamed behind me "HANG UP THE PHONE AND DON'T TOUCH THE CAR!."

That was a local sheriff and he didn't know that the lines were dead and that I had inadvertently discovered that for myself. As to why he wanted me to hang up the phone, I have no idea. He had a gun, I didn't so I hung up on the guy's sister.

Long story short, the guy was pretty much okay. The Ambulance came and I spoke with him and got his sister's number so I could finish the conversation to inform her that the guy wasn't dying and where the accident occurred.

And then the aftermath.

I found out that this dick had rear-ended and totaled a Hyundai and turned the corner onto my street to escape.

There's your instant karma.

Of course, every battery operated thing I have was on its last dregs. My phone lasted 15 minutes, my flashlight 30. My laptop lasted about 20 minutes and my battery back-up system gave me 10 minutes of television.

The power was out for over twelve hours and my comforter worked pretty well except for my face.

I couldn't leave the house as my garage door is too heavy to open by hand and there were wires and detritus across my driveway until 3:00 PM. This made me think about how lucky I really was.

I'm not in jail.

My power was going to come back on.

My dogs are really warm on a very cold night.

And...

The idiot in the truck is still alive to learn how stupid he was last night. So is the girl he hit.
